Pros: Room, power, ride Cons: Low chassis limits, body lean, cloth interior The Bottom Line: Definitely German, but not the sports sedan many seem to think it is.
I’ve been meaning to drive the current Passat for some time. For my personal car I tend to like moderately-priced sports sedans, and the Passat is supposed to be one of the best of these, perhaps the best. Many glowing reviews have been written about the ...

Pros: Slick looks, strong V6, great ride, good materials inside and out, excellent safety ratings Cons: Handling might not be as sporty as some would like, prices climb with options The Bottom Line: It may not be the sportiest or the best value, but the Passat has got an excellent all-around game that could be the envy of other car manufacturers.
The mid-sized sedan segment is quite possibly one of the toughest markets in the automotive industry. With strong offerings from Honda and Toyota, as well as cheaper alternatives from other makers such as Hyundai, car companies would be hard-pressed...

Pros: Styling, build quality, excellent ride, well thought out ergonomics, great value. Cons: Less than average stereo, position of power window controls on driver's door. The Bottom Line: This car is a bargain - priced much less than what you'd expect for a car that offers so much. I love everything about it and highly recommend it!
First, I should explain my title. For those who may not know, Volkswagen, Porsche and Audi are all related companies who share their technologies with each other. So the VW Passat shares the same engine, platform, drivetrain, suspension and other...

Pros: Everything expected of a fine German-designed road machine - for $20K less. Cons: None, none, and oh yeah, none. The Bottom Line: Lebensraum! Farfegnugen! Ach du Lieber! Mach schnell! Buy this car.
My oh my, how things change. I was raised to believe that cars are basic transportation, that buying one for status is vulgar, that as long as it looks presentable and gets you from A to B reliably, that's all that is required. I just bought a...

Pros: Styling, performance, price, dashboard & gauge lights Cons: Monsoon sound system, manual seat adjustment dials The Bottom Line: I highly recommend the VW Passat 2001.5 model. It has excellent "standard" features, its comfortable, and easy to drive. Theres plenty of room, both inside the cabin and the trunk.
The 2001.5 Passat is one of the top German passenger cars available for the money. It is in line with the Audi's but for thousands less. In fact, the body style now even slightly resembles its Audi A4 counterpart, and it comes standard with the same...

Pros: value, performance, luxury, comfort, practicality Cons: reliability? dealer competence?
I'm a new owner of a 2001 VW Passat GLS V6 sedan (the "B5" generation of the Passat). It includes the Luxury package (Power tilt and slide glass sunroof, tinted glass, rear sunshade, 7J x 15" "Adelaide" alloy wheels, and...

Pros: Great fun to drive, intelligent design, great value for money Cons: Car floats on highway, engine rough when you stomp on it The Bottom Line: I recommend it highly, a more fun car than japanese counterparts, art in design everywhere. Great user experience.
I recently bought a GLX, V6 Automatic. I was driving a 98 Lexus GS 300 and wanted to save some money. I drove all of the competitors and many were impressive but few had the engineering innovation and playful spirit of the VW. Also the VW is a cheap way...

Pros: Too many pro's to list -- everything about this car is a pro! Cons: Finding a Passat in your preferred exterior and interior combination can be difficult. The Bottom Line: The Passat is an amazing car. In my opinion, it is the best value for under $30,000 -- it's a cheaper version of an Audi and a BMW.
Why I Chose the Passat:
I had been looking to purchase a new car for several months. I had originally planned on purchasing the Volkswagen Jetta, but my final choice was the Volkswagen Passat.
There were a few reasons why I ended...

Pros: Powerful V6, very roomy interior, large trunk space, fun to drive Cons: needs cup holders (American), wouldn't be bad with a sport package The Bottom Line: Sleek, Powerful, Beautiful, and Intelligent. The design of this car was made for the average person, who doesn't want the average car. You won't believe the looks you'll get!!
I just recently made my first automobile purchase. I had spent many months, most of a year, searching and searching to find the perfect car for my needs. I found it, easily, with no runners up.
I bought a GLX V6 Passat Sedan, Automatic, with...

Pros: Hip design, well-built, drives nicely. Cons: Hip design is too trendy. Engine growl is noisy. Dash lights are ugly. Expensive. The Bottom Line: Not a bad car. Not the right car for me.
The 2001 Volkswagen Passat is a highly rated car. Lots of people love it.
I didn't.
It's not a bad car by any means. In fact it's quite nice. But the car is not for me, and here's why.
The growl of the engine turned...

Pros: Fantastic ride, elegant styling, quiet, good sound system Cons: Not many! The Bottom Line: For the price, this is a wonderful automobile, with sleek styling, lots of comfortable space, and a thoroughly delightful ride.
When my aging Nissan Maxima signaled one more expensive repair on the way, I decided it was finally time to replace it. One of the few new cars on the road that seemed to always be catching my eye was the Passat. So I was glad when I compared the new...

Pros: Handling, comfort, performance, style, high quality interior, blue dash lights - unique and very cool Cons: black velour interior shows dirt easily (buy leather!), rear visibity not that great, limited warranty The Bottom Line: I love this car.
Performance:
I have the 1.8T sedan with a stick. Driving it is a blast, though there are now cars in its price range coming that are beginning to match it. If you get a auto, people recommend the V6.
Fuel Economy:
I get around 31mpg...

Pros: Great ride, big trunk, superb value, excellent service Cons: Small glove box, hard to recline front seats The Bottom Line: I could drive all day (and night) in my Passat. It is a comfortable ride in a sporty car. It handles well in all conditions and has lots of extras.
The VW 2001 Passat is worth every penny! This car is loaded with standard and optional features that only come in German cars!
The interior of the car is roomy and comfortable. Mirrors in the visors, and a sun visor above the rear-view mirror...

Pros: Great car, painless maintenance Cons: Cup holder, non-automatic seat adjustment
We have the 2000 GLS 4 wagon, not even the V6, and we're really happy with it. Our model has the leather package, the 5-speed automatic Tiptronic, the cold weather package, and the Monsoon 6 CD stereo. It's silver with black leather.
We...
