Pros: Amazing number of innovations, all-around performance, comfort Cons: Styling, controls take a long time to learn, too much? The Bottom Line: Even at $75,000, an amazing amount of car for the money. But the more expensive, less impressive Mercedes is more fun to drive. Such choices can really test one's principles.
BMW for the past three decades or so has been seeking to decrease its reliance on 3-Series sales and generally move up-market. Its flagship, the 7-Series, has been a key component of this strategy. Launched in the late 1970s, the 7-Series first seriously ...

Pros: Incredible driving dynamics, large list of features, good value for money Cons: iDrive difficult to use, styling The Bottom Line: It drives great, and has a lot of features. But buyers in this price range also demand style, which this does not have.
I recently had the chance to drive the 2002 7 Series during a BMW event sponsored by the Komen foundation for breast cancer. I highly suggest this event as it does raise money and awareness for a good cause, all while getting to drive in BMW's.

Pros: Comfortable, sporty, feature rich, nimble at high speeds Cons: Hard to program, some features are marginal, problems linger indefinitely. The Bottom Line: Top of the line German engineering features, but with lots bugs (don't buy). Feature rich, smooth and sporty, you will feel like you own the road.
The following section is updated after 20 months of driving the car: I downrated the recommendation for the car. I always thought I had a "lemon". It turns out that all 745's are in the garage just as must as on the road. My service advisor told me that ...

Pros: Technology, ride, innovations Cons: Styling takes getting used to, I-Drive a bit confusing The Bottom Line: All you could ever want in a car and way more.
I recently purchased a new 2002 BMW 745il. I spent a considerable amount of time researching this car versus the Mercedes S500 series and it was a close call. If you look at the two cars line by line, the BMW wins on most counts. The BMW has a bit...

Pros: Reliability, Style. 100k Warranty ALL 2002's. Cons: Peeling interior. (They will replace free) The Bottom Line: All around great car. Warranty to 100k. Maintenance to 50k. Virtually no repairs and mine is 6 years old now.
I bought my 2002 BMW in early 2006 with 47,000 miles on it. The car is beautiful and has barely changed styling. The car "hugs" the road as it drives. You "feel" the ride much more than a Mercedes. All 2002 BMW 7's have a factory 6yr 100k warranty. ...

Pros: Very Comfortable seats, interior roominess, performance, fun factor Cons: none so far The Bottom Line: Best Interior and ride, excellent high quality materials everywhere.
I was hesitant about this car due to car forums where owners told of nightmare problems with their 745i's. Most appeared to be early production models(Dec-April). I waited and got an August 2002 build and so far it is flawless.
The reason I went for...

Pros: quick, comfortable, great look Cons: run flat tires do not ride well on rough surfaces The Bottom Line: This car has everything you could want in a car, it is expensive, but if you can afford it..I highly recommend it.
It's pricey up front, but like the best of anything, you'll never be able to go back. It's on par with all the best in areas of luxury, saftey, gizmos, and prestige, but alone in performance. It's by far the classiest for reasons similar to it's...

Pros: I love my car! Cons: I bought a LEMON (This particular year and model vehicle)
I purchased my car with the impression that owning a BMW I would have an ULTIMATE DRIVING EXPERIENCE. All my experiences with this vehicle has been an ULTIMATE DRIVING NIGHTMARE. OWNING A BMW HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY DREAM CAR. I feel as though I have been cheated a chance to drive an ultimate driving machine. In a year owning this vehicle I have taken this car EIGHT TIMES for services(electrical/computer problems)! I want to know why BMW with such a high standards would have so many problems. I spent a significant amount of money on this vehicle believing that your product was made to the same standards as BMW has made a reputation for itself. The reason I purchased your vehicle was because I believed in the BMW name and product line.
