Pros: power, payload, handling Cons: economy, size & maneuverability The Bottom Line: Don't fail to consider the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 when selecting a full-size pickup. It deserves a look.
It was tempting, I tell you, to simply trot out my three-week-old review of the 2002 Chevy Suburban 1500 and merely change a word here and another there (at least 100 of them, so I'd meet the requirements for unique content). But the more I drove and the ...

Pros: Highest rated tow hitch capacity paired with available Allison transmission and Duramax diesel options. Cons: Thirsty, large, difficult to park, might not fit in garage. The Bottom Line: This is a real "cross-over" vehicle. The crew cab with topper offer the space of a wagon. The tow capacity and tow-readiness make it the ultimate truck to own.
In May 2002, my family purchased a new 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Crew Cab LS Dually with both the Allison 5-speed automatic transmission and the Duramax turbo-diesel engine options. We bought the vehicle to serve two primary purposes: family ...

Pros: Comfort, Towing power, Quiet Cons: Diesel fuel is too expensive. Lately $60 to fill. The Bottom Line: The best heavy duty truck around. Best towing and ride comfort. Fair milage for breed.
I purchased my 2002 Silverado 2500HD with the duramax engine and allison transmission new. I had just returned from a grueling 2500 mile round trip to race my car in Memphis. From Ct that was just too much to endure. So I decided to tow my car from now ...

Pros: will pull *anything*. VERY comfortable Cons: the 8.1 V8 is veeeery thirsty. Relativel low stock ground clearance The Bottom Line: This is the most versatile truck around; I continue to recommend it
We bought a 2500HD Crew Cab brand new, with the 8.1 liter V8 and the Allison transmission. Previously, we'd had a Dodge 2500HD V10. It was a nice truck, but nothing like the Chevy With kids, big dogs, etc. we needed more space, so we gave into ...

Pros: Rock-solid reliable, good mileage, excellent 4 wheel drive, comfortable ride, huge backseat. Cons: A few squeaks and rattles, numb braking, noisy transmission. The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a truck that looks and works like a truck, it doesn't get any better than this. Definitely not a "lifestyle" vehicle.
Chevy's taken a lot of flack about their pickups. Critics gripe that they waited too long to redesign them, and that both the interior and exterior were cheap and bland. That's exactly what makes this an excellent work truck. It looks like a truck, ...

Pros: Decent Gas Mileage for such a big truck.
Hauling Capacity Cons: Rust Issues
Ride can be jarring
Reliability Sub par The Bottom Line: I would recommend this truck because of its power and towing capacity.
I purchased this truck in 2005, as a Certified Used truck. It had 40,000 miles on it. I am glad it came with a full warranty because I ended up using it! First problem I had was the emergency brakes. They barely worked. I decided to test them ...

Pros: Lots of room for works and tools. Plenty of hauling power. Cons: Bad choice of gearing for the transmission. Had to be rebuilt. The Bottom Line: The bottom line is that its a good work truck and short distance drives. Not a family kind of truck.
This truck was bought with water damage but was not declared totaled so the price was reasonable and was sold to us for our price of 15,500. What a trip we just bought. For about a month or two the truck ran great. It was drove around 100 miles a day and ...

This car runs excellent and has a very strong engine. Great on-road and off-road, especially in snowy conditions. The interior is great and the rear seat is great for seating family.

Pros: It is a sweet and comfortable ride. Cons: The cost of keeping the vehicle on the road.
I am in agreement with the reviews BUT I am now facing a repair bill to fix a cracked transmission. Of course the truck has 158000 miles but a "CRACKED TRANSMISSION?" Too date I have replaced a transfer case, a u-joint, a tie-rod, fix a leak in the front axle, replaced the PRUNDL harness, All the injectors, numerous bulbs, several items long forgotten. My repair cost have definitely added to the cost of operating such a vehicle. 95 % of the miles are highway miles. I seldom use the 4WD functions.
Check out the TSB, recalls, etc. on http://www.carcomplaints.com/Chevrolet/Silverado/2002/investigations.shtml
See for yourself.

allison transmission not all cracked up to be or is it

Pros: good looking truck, plush leather Cons: service issues with general motors, like dealing with the USED CAR SALESMAN you've been warned
purchased my 2002 chevrolet 3500 4x4 crew cab dullie duramax allison new in 4/02. since then have put on 69000 miles of medium duty towing. now i found a leak in the rear of the transmission, only to find out from a allison dealer(not the gm dealer) that my rear housing is cracked, and there is a t.s.b.(technical service bulletin) on this particular problem. so i went back to my dealer. they informed me that it would cost me $2600.00 to fix. they also reminded me that my warranty on my transmission expired at 36000 miles and there was no way they would be able to assist in any repair costs. so for all prospective buyers of this $45000-$52000 truck, this truck may not be all it is CRACKED up to be,literally

'02 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab 4x4 Short Bed

Pros: Much quieter, smoother ride than previous versions. I have seen them with 200k miles. Cons: Interior does not hold up well against child car seats. Easily scuffed.
Purchased used with 56K miles and in spotless condition.I had a '98 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 that got to be too small with 3 kids and 2 dogs. The Crew Cab provides the extra leg room that the Quad Cab couldn't. This one ton truck is much heavier than the Ram 1500 is but gets the same gas mileage.
With it's tow capacity,I can tow a 4k lb car with my 2k trailer and still have plenty power left. We are also using it to pull a 26ft Travel Trailer. The 6.0 liter engine, 4l80 trans, and the 4.10 axle get the job done without a lot of strain. The bigger brakes are an important safety item. I now have 90k miles with no hang ups.
This truck is a huge improvement over the previous models produced. It's not perfect however nothing man made is. If you have a genuine need for a heavy duty truck, consider this one.
Don't try to make a half ton do the work of a bigger truck. It will just cost you more money in the long run.
