Only a work truck

by
May 8, 2008 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Lots of room for works and tools. Plenty of hauling power.
Cons: Bad choice of gearing for the transmission. Had to be rebuilt.
The Bottom Line: The bottom line is that its a good work truck and short distance drives. Not a family kind of truck.

This truck was bought with water damage but was not declared totaled so the price was reasonable and was sold to us for our price of 15,500. What a trip we just bought. For about a month or two the truck ran great. It was drove around 100 miles a day and ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Decent Gas Mileage for such a big truck. Hauling Capacity
Cons: Rust Issues Ride can be jarring Reliability Sub par
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this truck because of its power and towing capacity.

I purchased this truck in 2005, as a Certified Used truck. It had 40,000 miles on it. I am glad it came with a full warranty because I ended up using it! First problem I had was the emergency brakes. They barely worked. I decided to test them ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfort, Towing power, Quiet
Cons: Diesel fuel is too expensive. Lately $60 to fill.
The Bottom Line: The best heavy duty truck around. Best towing and ride comfort. Fair milage for breed.

I purchased my 2002 Silverado 2500HD with the duramax engine and allison transmission new. I had just returned from a grueling 2500 mile round trip to race my car in Memphis. From Ct that was just too much to endure. So I decided to tow my car from now ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: will pull *anything*. VERY comfortable
Cons: the 8.1 V8 is veeeery thirsty. Relativel low stock ground clearance
The Bottom Line: This is the most versatile truck around; I continue to recommend it

We bought a 2500HD Crew Cab brand new, with the 8.1 liter V8 and the Allison transmission. Previously, we'd had a Dodge 2500HD V10. It was a nice truck, but nothing like the Chevy With kids, big dogs, etc. we needed more space, so we gave into ... read more

Hard working truck

by
Jan 15, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Rock-solid reliable, good mileage, excellent 4 wheel drive, comfortable ride, huge backseat.
Cons: A few squeaks and rattles, numb braking, noisy transmission.
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a truck that looks and works like a truck, it doesn't get any better than this. Definitely not a "lifestyle" vehicle.

Chevy's taken a lot of flack about their pickups. Critics gripe that they waited too long to redesign them, and that both the interior and exterior were cheap and bland. That's exactly what makes this an excellent work truck. It looks like a truck, ... read more

Family Vehicle Alternative with Crew Cab Option

by
May 10, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Highest rated tow hitch capacity paired with available Allison transmission and Duramax diesel options.
Cons: Thirsty, large, difficult to park, might not fit in garage.
The Bottom Line: This is a real "cross-over" vehicle. The crew cab with topper offer the space of a wagon. The tow capacity and tow-readiness make it the ultimate truck to own.

In May 2002, my family purchased a new 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Crew Cab LS Dually with both the Allison 5-speed automatic transmission and the Duramax turbo-diesel engine options. We bought the vehicle to serve two primary purposes: family ... read more

Pros: Much quieter, smoother ride than previous versions. I have seen them with 200k miles.
Cons: Interior does not hold up well against child car seats. Easily scuffed.
Purchased used with 56K miles and in spotless condition.I had a '98 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 that got to be too small with 3 kids and 2 dogs. The Crew Cab provides the extra leg room that the Quad Cab couldn't. This one ton truck is much heavier than ... read more
