Mar 30, 2008 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Adjustable foot petals & 24 valve DOHC.
Cons: Muffler Rattles & RPM's jump when in idle.
The Bottom Line: I would really like to see the SHO again in Taurus!!!

I bought my 02 Taurus new in early 03. I have had relatively little maintenance so far. I drive my car on a scale 1-10 & 10 being the hardest, I drive an "8". I change the oil about every 4,000 miles, rotate tires when I can est. 20K. I have had so ... read more

Dec 29, 2007 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Sturdy, Reliable, Good handling
Cons: Can be a challenge to maneuver in small areas
The Bottom Line: My Taurus has treated me very well, so I would recommend the 2002 Taurus model to others.

I'm a little surprised at some of the reviews the 2002 Ford Taurus has received. They seem rather negative, but my experience has been nothing short of wonderful. My 2002 Ford Taurus SES is the first car I've called my own, though I have driven ... read more

The Taurus is a solid yet boring sedan

by
May 4, 2006 - Updated May 14, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Safe choice for first buyers. Best value for the money. Roomy Interior.
Cons: Awkward Brake Pedal Location. Average combined is 25mpg.
The Bottom Line: Great car for the money. Safe buy. Try'd and true technology.

I bought the car in 2002 since I wanted not just a car but a real car for a change. Before I got the Taurus I've only had compact/subcompact cars and I wanted something more substantial. The Taurus is a midsized sedan offered by Ford that is very ... read more

Not to bad unless you ever plan to trade it in

by
Oct 5, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: seats 5 fairly comfortably, 6 with the front armrest down. nice ride
Cons: vibrating brakes, engine noise, HORRIBLE RESALE VALUE
The Bottom Line: DO NOT purchase this car new unless you want negative equity if you plan to trade it in before payoff!! Check the facts, all of this is verifiable!!!! Horrible resale!!

I own a 2002 Ford Taurus SE, I bought it new. The car has a fairly comfortable ride, and I average around 19-20 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway with the standard 3.0 V6. After about 25k miles the brakes have begun to vibrate and make noise when ... read more

No bull in this Taurus

by
Jan 7, 2005 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Inexpensive, reliable, no fuss transportation with lots of room forward and back.
Cons: Unexciting design, mediocre handling, brakes and power. Horrible ergonomics for the heating cooling controls.
The Bottom Line: Great buy! Lots of room, reliable, no fuss transportation. Handling and power can be tweaked with the right aftermarket options. Stay away from the electronic heating cooling controls.

I originally had a 2003 Ford Taurus SES as a company vehicle. It had the Vulcan 3.0 V-6, AC, power windows, locks, mirrors, a front bench seat, with the very neat fold down/up console. This allowed you to have a console most of the time, but if you ... read more

Acceptable, if the car were free for everyone

by
Sep 19, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Nice looking, good interior room, large trunk, good fuel economy. Comfortable for long trips.
Cons: Needs much more power, poor reliability/quality, abysmal transmission.
The Bottom Line: Please browse and test drive similar offerings from Honda, Toyota, and GM, and you will see how inferior this car is.

I was fortunate enough to receive a 2002 Ford Taurus for my business use as a sales representative, and also for my personal use. After about 18 months and 42,000 miles, for a total of 56,000 miles on the car, I can honestly say this car is worn out. ... read more

Jul 28, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good mileage and fairly comfortable for long trips.
Cons: Tire noise and handling. Valve spring manufacturing defect.
The Bottom Line: Recommended due to value as a used vehicle. Would purchase again.

This car was purchased from a Ford pre-owned car dealer in April 2003 and has for the most part been reliable and trouble free. I did have one serious problem with a broken valve spring but I still consider the car a good value. The repair cost $550 and ... read more

Ford Taurus SES: A Good Car with Some Flaws

by
May 19, 2004 - Updated Dec 4, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good interior design. Roomy.
Cons: Occasional "thumping" sound while driving. Ford should fix power window problems.
The Bottom Line: The 2002 Ford Taurus is smooth enough for business or leisure travel and roomy enough for families.

Overall, my 2002 Ford Taurus SES is a pretty good car. I purchased my car in late January 2004. I purchased this car to replace my 1992 Ford Crown Victoria that was involved in a wreck. After having the Crown Victoria, I did not think that I would buy ... read more

by
Apr 25, 2004 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: cheap if purchased used. Plenty at the junk yard for used parts.
Cons: noisy, hard ride, poor gas mileage, small back seat.
The Bottom Line: would I buy new, no. Would I buy for 5K, yes.

Purchased used, I refuse to pay new car prices. I am a mechanic, so I can handle most problems used cars come with. I purchased this 2002 Taurus with 93K miles on it, salesman car, for $4,5K.(ebay) It is my opinion that high miles on new cars do not ... read more

Pros: Engine, Transmission, Features, Ride, comfort, EVERYTHING!
Cons: ummm.. Not a thing!
The Bottom Line: This Car is great for virtually anyone. Safety, Comfort, and Reliability are Biggies here!

I feel I am at least somewhat qualified to speak about ford vehicles. I have had quite a few, and I'm not that old. Most of them were pretty good, only one bad one (1996 Contour), and I have traded regularly, not because they aren't good cars, but I ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: cheep, looks ok.
Cons: read the review.
The Bottom Line: this car is not oner i would suggest to anyone not using it a a fleet car, there is no amount of consumer value.

How can you consistently produce such a low quality car and still advertise it as the best selling car in America... Well there is a reason they are cheep. Let's start with this; they have a higher center of gravity, less power, less efficient engine, nar ... read more

Good for short people

by
Apr 29, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Adjustable pedals good for short drivers. Does not look like other wagons.
Cons: Only had for 3 days, don't know of any yet.
The Bottom Line: It is the BEST if you are short! If you need a hatchback and don't want a suv, mini van, or a wagon that looks like the rest.

We have only had our car for 3 days, we had a dodge caravan for 6 years before that. I am 5ft and between the pedals I can adjust and the power driver seat, it is not 'if' I can find a comfortable position but 'which' comfortable position I want to use. ... read more

by
Nov 20, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Decent A-B car, silent
Cons: Everything else
The Bottom Line: Look elsewhere if you take the slightest pleasure in driving and care more than just reaching destination.

You'd never see me buy one of those but I drove enough in a rental car to make myself a good opinion. Quite silent at highway speed except for tire noise. Handling is not too bad and healthy, body roll is contained, brakes are strong enough in ... read more

Taurus as tough as Bull

by
Sep 20, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Tough cars, not very expensive
Cons: Column between doors is very wide and creates a huge blind spot
The Bottom Line: I would not buy one just because of the the extensive blind spot.

My company recently purchase some 2002 Ford Taurus', They are a descent size car with head and leg room. The V6 has some power but not a lot. It is a basic vehicle with not a lot of flash and if your prefer Ford's and you are looking for a passenger car ... read more

1986 Revisited?

by
Sep 14, 2002 - Updated Mar 31, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Tons of options, Interior room, Cold AC, Fancy alloys.
Cons: Value, Quality control issues, Blase styling, Cluttered center dash, Car could use more power.
The Bottom Line: With so many cars below the price of the Taurus that offer so much more in all respects, this car is not recommended.

It simply amazes me that the Ford Taurus is still in production. After many years of major transmission, engine, and general quality control complaints one would have thought this car would have landed itself in an early grave. Unlike many other ... read more

Pros: great mommy car
Cons: i'm 21 and driving a 4 door sedan
The Bottom Line: if you're safety conscience,on a budget you won't find a better buy plus you won't be embarrassed to admit 'yes i own a taurus'

this is my second taurus i totaled my other taurus which was a '97 considering the physics of the accident (distance velocity impact etc..)i was very very satisfied with the taurus's performance other than frazzled nerves my son and i walked away okay to ... read more

Ford Flops With The 2002 Taurus

by
Jul 25, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Decent looking exterior, quite a bit of space
Cons: Gas mileage, engine power (or lack of), chintzy design elements
The Bottom Line: Look to other car makers before settling on this hyped bomb. Ford needs to redesign, re-engineer and rethink the Taurus.

Maybe it's just me... But, my husband's white 2002 Ford Taurus SE is bland, chintzy, and nothing to be proud of. The most redeeming quality of the vehicle is that it's his company car and we aren't forced to shell out our hard ... read more
