Amazing mileage and a wet seatbelt

by grieser
Jun 9, 2011 (Not Yet Rated)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fuel economy, design, small-car maneuverability, style, fun
Cons: Wet seatbelt, low-riding vulnerable feel
The Bottom Line: I am sold on Hondas, and the Insight absolutely does it jobs, but if I had it to do over again, I would have gotten a similar model year Civic.

When the original Insight came out in 2000, I thought it was the cat's pajamas. I read a bunch of reviews and dreamt of the day when I was old enough and rich enough to own a futuristic CRX-style hatchback for the 21st century.Last November, when my ... read more

Great gas mileage but prone to body damage

by gjjohnso
Jul 12, 2005 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: easy-to-read digital display, small size makes it easy to maneuver
Cons: low ground clearance, no side-impact air bags, no CD player, oil changes are expensive
The Bottom Line: A good car if you care more about gas mileage than other factors.

I'd buy another Insight, so I obviously am satisfied with mine, but anyone thinking of buying one should be aware that the body is very easy to damage. I'm a very careful driver, but my Insight has been badly damaged twice, due to the weak body. A normal ... read more

Great 21st Century Auto!

Mar 28, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fuel economy, of course. Very good power for its size. Surprisingly roomy front seats.
Cons: 2 person maximum capacity, limited cargo space. Blind spots make lane changing scary.
The Bottom Line: High-tech vehicle that's fun and comfortable to drive. Prepare to make a few adjustments, but if you need an economical two-seater, this is the car to have.

Just got one of these cars a week ago, to replace a lemon of a Ford. I must say it's a pleasure to drive, so far lives up to its reputation on fuel economy, and is an excellent "geek car". Here are some of my observations: A lot of people have ... read more

An absolutely great commuter car.

Jan 24, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Best gas mileage in America, Techno sense while driving, Digital Dash, Handling, Confuses people.
Cons: Stiff ride, potholes hurt, Residual value. Stock stereo system (man available aftermarket upgrades though).
The Bottom Line: It's not perfect, but Honda is selling it at a Loss, if you want something futuristic, green and cheap to operate this is the car for you.

Ok, if you look at my other epinions you'll see my previous vehicle was a 95 Chevy Tahoe 11 mile per gallon beast. Frankly, I think my Insight is faster than the Tahoe was to start off. How pathetic is that? Anyway, considering a few things, ... read more

Oversold MPG, corrected on 2003

by Halsey
Nov 14, 2002 - Updated Jul 17, 2003 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Economy, fuel efficient, comfortable, Clean burning, Green Friendly
Cons: Bad sound system, Dealer Only Maintenance, Window Ski Rack Available.
The Bottom Line: I like the car. The dealer service lacks a bit. Get a used one with 100k warranty.

I have never gotten near the mileage advertised. After repeated visits to the dealer (not helpful) I still only get 48-52 mpg. They want ten tank fulls of gas records to diagnose the problem. Gee, thats 5000 miles and maybe 4-5 months. I knew more ... read more

The Car Only For Some

Jul 12, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Gas Mileage, Design, Manual along with CVT option
Cons: Parts of Stock audiosystem, Skirts, 2 seats
The Bottom Line: Nice car to look at if you like to save money on gas and you're helping the environment which of course is a good thing.

The Insight is quite unique in that it's a hybrid vehicle with an electric and gas engine. It has a generator (Back?) that recharges the batteries in conjunction with breaking and going down inclines (Sometimes just stepping lightly on the gas will do ... read more

Pros: Saves a buck for gas, and comfortable.
Cons: Doesnt have all the entertainment options as other cars.
The Bottom Line: i think its awesome.

With the tipsy gas prices and questions about are fuel amount in the future I purchased this car. I am completely satisfied with this car, and it saves me tons. My gas bill as sunk dramatically. The car runs well and is really comfortable. The steering ... read more

My 2001 Insight - 6 months later

by jjweinb
Mar 31, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Gas Mileage, front wheel drive, instrument cluster, front window area, fun to drive
Cons: low ground clearance, stiff ride, stock tires
The Bottom Line: In all, I give the Insight 5 stars for meeting all of the requirements it set out to meet, and for allowing me to enjoy driving again.

I have owned my Insight now for 6 months, and gone through a Colorado Winter with it. I have cut my monthly gas bill considerably. Before the Insight, I was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and getting 17-18 miles to the gallon around town (90%) and ... read more

Great car...poor Honda support

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No
Pros: Great gas mileage
Cons: Worthless manufacturer support
The last review was entirely accurate...except for the worthiness of the battery. Mine has worn out after 50K miles, and Honda refuses to replace it. This problem is occurring with most owners after a couple years. Go buy a Prius instead. Honda is
