Pros: Performs well Cons: Styling, some interior materials, tall dash, cramped rear seat, price The Bottom Line: Strangely, the X-Type falls down more in style more than substance, when everyone likely suspected the opposite would be the case.
A decade ago Ford spent $2.5 billion to buy Jaguar. At the time, Jaguar was in awful shape. Although its cars continued to be desired for their sensuous styling, clubby interiors, and excellent ride comfort, a widespread reputation for poor quality led ...

Pros: Comfortable, quiet, and surprisingly affordable Cons: None really The Bottom Line: You can debate its heritage all you want, but this is one sleek, luxurious ride and its priced within range of mere mortals.
I've never even considered buying a Jaguar up until this year. Their cars were always big, expensive vehicles made for people who like to flaunt their money. I like nice cars, but I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, and I also don't want...

Pros: Great Looking Exterior, Smooth & Powerful V8, Feels like a Jag Cons: Ford-looking Interior, Pricey for the V8 Model, Small Inside The Bottom Line: Not a bad car by any means, but a much larger car can cost a lot less than the S-Type, besides, isn't space the ultimate luxury?
Many Jaguar purists have been concerned, and rightfully so, that Ford’s recent acquisition of the Jaguar brand would mean a watering down, or all-out loss of those things that make a Jaguar a Jaguar. Certainly no one would argue that Jaguar has been an...

Pros: 4WD, Connolly leather, peppy engines Cons: poor U.S. color combinations, no individual option selection, price really climbs with the option packages The Bottom Line: It's more luxury than sport. Get the Jag for superior rain/snow drivability, get a BMW 3-Series if you only drive on dry pavement and prefer RWD performance.
The 2002 X-Type is Jaguar's first model in the compact sport sedan segment, competing with a crowded selection that includes everyone's favorite benchmark, the BMW 3-Series, as well as the Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4, Lexus IS300, Acura TL, Infiniti I35,...

Pros: It's beautiful. Except when it's running. Cons: ZERO reliability. An unbroken string of major system failures and repairs. Noisy on the highway. The Bottom Line: AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. Not worth it.
ABOUT THE REVIEWER: Just so you'll know the reference point from which I write ... I live in the Southwest, I drive to/from work weekdays (about 20 miles; 75% highway, 25% city). Previous luxury sedans I've owned include a 1993 Lexus ES-300 and a 1997 ...

Pros: Drive=Outstanding Speed=Excellent Luxury=Top Notch Style=OK Cons: Faulty Sunroof, Styling reminisant of FORD The Bottom Line: Mercedes is not as zippy and the BMW to me is not as Luxury. This is a Top Notch Car.
I'm a Leaser (I like the Write-offs) So when I look at for A Car I look for INSTANT gratification. I just got out of a BMW 5 series and was looking to Downsize (Price wise) and this Kind of Bothered me. I wanted Sport but also luxury and I Didn't really...

Pros: Style, Class, Comfort, Nav System, Jag Mystique, Leather. Cons: Some rattles, cheap feeling to center arm rest, no seat memory. The Bottom Line: Pick the right spec and trim and you have a car that can satisfy anyone. A definate must for your test drive list.
I promised my wife the next car would be her's. Her priority's were. Brand name, Automatic Transmission, Navigation system, comfort and wanted to feel special.
So off we went in Early December 2001 to check out the BMW three series, Lexus...

Pros: Roomy, Wood and Leather combo, Powerful, comfortable seating. Cons: No RWD version, no tiptronic, pricey options. The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a roomier alternative to an imported sedan, yet don't mind the option prices, the X-Type is for you.
Overview
With the ever-growing compact import sedan market, there have been many new contenders over the last few years. For 2002, the newest contender in this segment is the Jaguar X-Type. It was designed and priced to compete with...

Pros: The navigation system is the best I've ever used. Aesthetics. Cons: reliability, road noise, general quality The Bottom Line: Don't buy it.
This car has been nothing but problems since the day I bought it. I purchased the 3.0 version with the headlight washers and a built in DVD navigation system. I suppose the reason I want to write this review is to let anyone who is considering a purchase ...

Pros: Handles like silk. Cons: Illuminated radio and clock display is too small to be read easily. The Bottom Line: If you like cars, you'll love this Jag, until trouble starts, then trouble comes in battalions.
I was immediately intrigued with the Jaguar S-type when I saw it at the auto show in Cleveland. My trepidation came from memories of pushing the products of British Leyland which in the end permanently damaged my back. No more English cars I promised ...

Pros: Quality, traction, power, smoothness, styling. Cons: One cup holder. Clutch not so smooth. Look a bit 'sawed off'. The Bottom Line: This is indeed a real Jag. The ladies will love it and the guys will appreciate it too. Traction will never be an issue in this car.
Let me start by saying that this is my first Jaguar. It's my wife's car really and it replaced a '98 Ford SVT Contour, probably a vehicle that provided at least some of the genes for this littlest of Jag's. There are few if any interchangeable parts, ...

Pros: Lovely sculptured shape, especially to the bonnet (hood). Quiet, powerful and quick. Huge boot (trunk). Cons: A little thirsty on the motion potion, and some problems with noisy transmission. The Bottom Line: A quiet roomy car, excellent handling and performance. Massive boot, and good rear passenger space. I'm likely to buy another in a year or so, I'm that happy with it.
[Opinion started 11 Feb 2003] I have had my little cat (Jaguar X-Type 2.5 Sport) for a few months now, so I thought it about time I wrote about it here. I understand that this site is geared more to the American market, which is why the 2001 second ...

Pros: Elegant and stylish exterior, that mixes the modern and the retro look.
Cons: Uncomfortable interior. The Bottom Line: The 2002 Jaguar S-Type is a very good car if prestige is what you are looking for. If you have back pains like I do stay away.
Jaguar S-Type 2002
A Ford Product....
...And it is starting to show. Not that anything is terribly wrong with Ford cars, I have owned several and for the most part I have been very satisfied with them.
It is just that...

Pros: Handling, fun to drive, price Cons: Automatic transmission, slightly sluggish perfomance, cold weather quirks The Bottom Line: An pretty average car, but not a great luxury car. Lease, dont buy it...seems like it would be costly to fix down the line.
I bought my 2002 Jaguar X-Type 2.5 in April, and so far the car has proven to be pretty solid, however there are some flaws to point out. First of all, the car is a bit too sluggish for me. Driver handbook says the 2.5 liter version will go 0-60 in 8.5...

Pros: Great handling, Great Customer Service by dealer and corporation, love driving Cons: None yet The Bottom Line: Great car for the $. It is good that it didn't have too many options to offer.
Last year when my lease was up on my '98 Grand Cherokee, we were going to replace it w/ none other a 2002 Grand Cher but the dealer tried to screw us. We ended up going to the car show and saw the Jaguar X-type. We had seen billboards and commercials...
