Looks Good, Good Quality. Fun to Drive

by
Nov 8, 2010 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Still looks modern, mechanically dependable, great a/c
Cons: Rough ride on bad roads, low resale value
The Bottom Line: Compares well to more expensive Hyundai small car models at a lower price. For low cost solid basic transportation with great gas mileage, can't go wrong.

My Kia Rio is the Cinco model which means five in Spanish. It is the hatchback aka station wagon. In 2002 , all Kia Rio models had a 1.5 L  engine (96 hp) and mine is the four speed automatic. My Rio Cinco came with air conditioning and a stereo ... read more

Kia service costs, you would think I am driving a BMW

by
Jan 14, 2009 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: It is easy to park in small spaces.
Cons: The 30k service cost is more that 1/4 the value of the car.
The Bottom Line: Never buy a Kia, they are poorly made and the 100k, 10 year warranty really does not cover what falls apart.

I can not believe what the charges are on a Kia Rio to replace spark plugs and a 30k mile service. $254.00 for spark plugs$578.00 for a 30k mile service which entails very little other than fluids, tire rotation and ... read more

2002 Kia Rio Sedan

by
Dec 3, 2008 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Gas miser, reliable, simple and fun to drive. Driver's seat has a flip-up armrest.
Cons: Rear leg-room is tight. No cruise control. Windows are manual. Rear suspension is too soft.
The Bottom Line: This car is for a person on a limited budget or a college kid just starting out.

I commute 33 miles to work (one-way) so I had to get something more economical than the Isuzu Rodeo I had. I bought this Rio used with 69K miles on it. The car itself is simple to drive. A 1.5L 97HP DOHC 4-Banger pushes this car. It has a 5-speed manual ... read more

Pros: Good on gas
Cons: Everything else
The Bottom Line: You're better off spending a little extra money on a better car

A couple weeks ago, my family and I were looking into purchasing a used car for purposes such as getting back and forth from work and regular shopping. We looked around at a dozen different cars such as the Nissan Sentra and the Toyota echo, but found ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Inexpensive to get into, great gas mileage, cute body style
Cons: not reliable, repair costs high
The Bottom Line: Stay away from Rio's. They will cost you a lot in the long run

A few years ago I purchased my very first car, a pretty little silver Kia Rio. I was so excited! It had great mileage, was cute and it was almost new! It got great mileage too, averaging around 33 mph. Then I drove it home. Things started going ... read more

Great car for the price

by
Sep 26, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great car for the price
Cons: not as noiseless as I'd like, A/C pulls on motor more than it should.
The Bottom Line: I would reccommend this car for a budget-minded single person or a young person just starting out financing their own vehicle

I brought the Rio Cinco new. I tested both the RIO Cinco and the standard Rio the Cinco seems not only to give you more head room but more back room as well. Maybe it has something to do with the hatchback design. For the 7000.00 I paid, I wasn't ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Very comfortable (at least if you are short), super inexpensive, super long warranty
Cons: will not be winning any street races
The Bottom Line: great car for students or other single people with few passengers and alot of moving/road trips. excellent for a city car, fits almost anywhere! very impressive for what it cost

I purchased my Rio brand new in August of 2002. It was $10,005 dollars out the door tax, tags and everything with no money down. It has cd/air but thats about all extra. I really wanted a car without power windows and with a standard tranny, so this ... read more

by
Jan 2, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Reliable
Cons: Uncomfortable, Fuel Efficiency, Ugly
The Bottom Line: I would NOT recommend this vehicle to anyone, as there are MUCH better cars for not much more money.

Well, I bought my 2002 Kia Rio in October of 2003. My 1997 Chevy Cavalier had just taken a final bow due to a head gasket or something like that (had something to do with my complete and total lack of maintenance on the car, including oil changes...). ... read more

If Fisher Price made a Car

by
Aug 6, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Looks nice enough and its cheap.
Cons: No power and a body thinner than a Coors can.
The Bottom Line: Recommended for students living on campus and not planning to ever drive home.

Allow me to preface this review by saying I know little about cars from a mechanical point of view. I have only the personal and anecdotal to go on, and drove my own Kia Rio around for several months before I thought to even look under the hood. So ... read more

Apr 25, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Cheap and nice looking. Good cargo room for an economy compact.
Cons: Power. Not very comfortable interior. Paint chipped easily. Noisy drive.
The Bottom Line: Not recommended. Too many cons. Ok if it is all that you can afford.

This was a good choice because of price and warranty. It does not drive bad but is pretty noisy. If you are going to drive more than an hour you will probably want to stop and walk around for a bit. The paint did not hold up well. I had a couple of ... read more

Nice, basic affordable car

by
Feb 1, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Affordable, attractive, surprisingly comfortable front seats
Cons: Loud at high speeds Cup holders too small Roof strip loose at 2K mi.
The Bottom Line: It ain't a luxury car, but you definitely get more than you pay for. The Above Average rating means "above average for the price".

We only have about 4,000 miles on our Rio 4-door, but it's really growing on me. We also considered the Echo and looked at some higher-end models, but we decided on the Rio because of the features for the price. Interestingly, my 6'4" husband ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Price, gas mileage, cargo room
Cons: Stalled on me 3 times so far
The Bottom Line: I would recommend for anyone to get the 2003 model of the Rio Cinc0. There are many changes, and I can only imagine why :)

When I first saw this car, it was love at first sight. The price was right for the amount of car I was getting. However, everything started to go downhill the 1st month. I started smelling a gas-like smell coming into the car and when I took it back ... read more

Kia Rio Mine

by
Oct 2, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Inexpensive, decent gas mileage, great air.
Cons: Noise, smell, wind sensitive/noise, creaking door hinges
The Bottom Line: Not a bad deal overall. A bit pricey. When buying the car it seemed that everything was extra - and it was.

What can I say? You get what you pay for. Got my new Kia Rio in February 2002 and had to have the paint repaired on the drivers door. That was more of a dealer problem then something systemic. I gagged for the first 1000 miles as the preservative coating ... read more

Cheap or Inexpensive?

by
Aug 25, 2002 - Updated Sep 25, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: fuel mileage, cargo room, long warranty
Cons: laborious passing power, cannot handle crosswinds, too much more to list
The Bottom Line: The Kia Rio offers "cheap" wheels to customer who are interested, but low resale value do not make this a reasonable buy.

The Kia Rio is among America's least expensive new cars. It arrived on our shores in 2001 and new for 2002 is the Kia Rio Cinco. It is 5-door wagon aimed at adding extra versatility to the standard Rio sedan. EXTERIOR: The Cinco's ... read more

I fell in love ...but...

by
Aug 8, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: The mileage, cost, warranty, style
Cons: The leg room, no cruise, no CD, no power windows, door locks etc
The Bottom Line: If you're planning to have 2-3 kids, don't bother, you'll be trading it in soon enough. If you're short, watch your knees. If you're tall, watch the person sitting behind you.

An interesting thing happened to me when Kia came to town... So, I saw from afar, this cute little car..I immediately fell in love with it. It was adorable,(if you can think that about a car) I just had to go and check it out. With my current ... read more
