LOVED IT....now unsure, still want to love it!

by
Jun 17, 2008 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Lot's of car & luxury for the money.
Cons: If a Kia-Dealer Service Center cannot find the problem...I'm a little concerned!
The Bottom Line: Can be a great car for the price, or can be a constant problem. Under 100k no issues. Multiple after 140K.

We bought our 2002 Kia Sedona LX sometime in 2004. It had about 60k miles and was in pristine condition (FULLY loaded version of this van, paid $10,500 and got extended warranty for 'free'). Until around 100k miles, it was worth EVERY PENNY! ... read more

You Get What you Pay For

by
Mar 10, 2008 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Good features for the money. I had no major mechanical issues.
Cons: The warranty is questionable, cheap feel to interior.
The Bottom Line: If you don't have a huge budget for a minivan, this van is pretty good for what you pay. Do expect a fight if you want to use the warranty.

I drove a 2002 Kia Sedona for 6 years. I bought it new and kept it far longer than I thought I would. Overall it was a good vehicle, but there are a few things you need to be cautious about when you buy a Kia. Kia offers a great, almost unbeatable, ... read more

Quite Luxurious, not a bad van

by
Jul 9, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Comfortable Leather seats, very quiet.
Cons: Horrible gas mileage, feels like a truck when driving.
The Bottom Line: This is a good van, but there are better choices out there.

Our 93' Plymouth Voyager was having some problems, so we took it in to the shop and they gave us a Kia Sedona EX, which we used for about one week. The minute I saw it I fell in love with it! But beauty is only skin deep. The interior felt much like a ... read more

Long Term Investment Not Worth It

by
Jun 9, 2007 - Updated Jun 25, 2007 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Great vehicle if you can get a service department that knows what it is doing.
Cons: If you plan on keeping this vehicle anywhere past the warranty expect to start paying
The Bottom Line: Looking for a long term investment, at least 3-4yrs after you have paid it off, look else where.

Update: Well I got the Seonda back at 12:00pm on Thursday and by Friday noon I was back at the dealership. The van was leaking antifreeze all over the place. According to the service department the water pump and timing belt were now gone and needed ... read more

Too many repairs too little time

by
May 24, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Alot of van for the bucks. Lots of room for a large family .
Cons: brakes are a nightmare and the alternator is garbage.
The Bottom Line: Financial constraints force us to buy this car but in the end you'll end up spending on repairs what you should have on a nicer vehicle.

We bought our Kia Sedona in summer of 2002, We have been happy until the handle on one of the sliding doors broke. We went to take the car in to have the handle fixed and the 2nd handle broke just 2-3 weeks later. We were forced to open the sliding door ... read more

Pros: Roomy, seats can be switched with rear and middle, handles well
Cons: Pricey service trough Kia for unwarrentied maintainace.
The Bottom Line: FUN, peppy, seats can change configurations, price cant be beat and drove nicer then most vans I test drove!

Poor Long-Term Reliability

by
Feb 3, 2007 - Updated Aug 8, 2008 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Looks nice until paint peels. Plenty of small storage areas. Nice amenities.
Cons: Not reliable. Not well built. Too little hauling space behind rear seats.
The Bottom Line: Buyers, steer clear of Kia. Newer ones are supposed to be reliable, but Kia claimed the same thing about the older ones and they are terrible.

Here are the problems I had with my 2002 Kia Sedona EX (VIN: KNDUP131326095824): Gas Gauge: After filling up with gas, the gauge immediately moved to half but took about five minutes to move from half to full. It also did not read accurately. While ... read more

45,000 mile KIA

by
Oct 14, 2006 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Purchase Price lower then competition
Cons: Poor overall quality, poor resale value, no honoring of warranty service, bad mpg
The Bottom Line: This vehicle is terrible. Poor quality, resale value, gas mileage, and no honoring of warranty. Avoid this and all KIA/Hyundai products.

This minivan is only good for about 45,000 miles. Initial quality is not too bad. However, after that you are in trouble. At the 45,000 mile manufacturer recommended maintenance check up it cost me over $1,000. This mostly had to do with a change ... read more

Kia won't honor their waranty

by
May 2, 2006 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Price Comfort
Cons: Reliability Customer Service
The Bottom Line: Awful vehicle. They do not stand behind their warranty, when the big stuff fails.

For six monhs now my family and I have been fighting with Kia. We bought a 2002 Sedona minivan 2 years ago. It came with the remaining balance of the manufacturers warranty. Since we were not the original owners, their warranty clearly states that we ... read more

Pros: Loaded with features, engine with guts, nice interior and exterior
Cons: Gas mileage... hard on the wallet.. ouch!
The Bottom Line: Great van for your money. Take a look at the Kia's nice vans.

I am a mom with two kids but I also care for a few more kids. Yes, I operate a day home. Some think I'm crazy but it's worth it. My Kia van fits the bill. I recently purchased this 2002 Kia Sedona EX preloved. It was in mint condition. My husband ... read more

Four years later- maybe not such a great bargain?

by
Dec 26, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: good handling, comfortable ride
Cons: poor gas mileage, tire wear, resale value
The Bottom Line: I would not recommend due to poor resale value, poor gas mileage, excessive tire and brake wear, and repair cost.

Like many others, we compared the 2002 Sedona EX with other minivans and decided it was the better deal, and who could resist the free Shrek video? Well four years later and 77,000 miles, I am not so sure. I wish I had the extra cash for the Honda ... read more

2002 Kia Sadona, Finally got rid of it!!!

by
Nov 15, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: The 6yr-60k warranty,(beacause you'll need it) applies to the orignal owner.engine is pretty peppy.
Cons: Poor brake system. Choice is yours. but I'll never buy a KIA AGAIN. NEVER
The Bottom Line: I would not waste my money on a KIA.Take the same amount for the new Kia and buy a really nice used car 1-3 yrs old, you'll be much happier!

We bought this Kia new in September of 2001. Great price and at the time 1.9% financing. I have just traded it in (11/05) for a used 2002 Ford Windstart SEL fully loaded leather and video system and 28k (Options go on and on) The Windstar was my first ... read more

Great Van, true 5-star Crash Rating

by
Nov 9, 2005 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great value, powerful engine, exceptionally reliable, excellent real-life crash performance.
Cons: Brakes could be more powerful. Gas mileage could be better.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this van for anyone looking for value. It has a powerful engine, is very reliable, and proved excellent in a real-life crash test.

I have owned close to 40 cars, including 2 (Chrysler Corp.) minivans and 2 full size conversion vans, and the Kia was far and away the best. I use the van as a family vehicle, and to tow my boat (about 3,000 lbs) and my pop-up trailer (about 2200 lbs) ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Design, safety, wide stance, price
Cons: Reliability, gas mileage, dealer service
The Bottom Line: Avoid at all costs if warranty is up.

Bought this van used in December 2004. Has lots of miles on it, but seemed like a good runner. Have had to replace all coolant lines and a/c lines. They are hard to get from dealership and expensive! I had my garage fix the vehicle because warranty ... read more

This is the BEST Van!!!

by
Dec 30, 2004 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Huge horse power make it very easy to get on highway in New York City.
Cons: Highway mileage is twice more than local; I got 450 miles full tank to Florida.
The Bottom Line: The best van. High reliability, low maintenance, super horse power, comfort long distance travel, free quick support, very affordable price.

After checking out 14 different vans, I bought my Kia Sedona 2002 EX, and it has been wonderful!!! I had no problem for past 40,000 miles of driving the van. It only took me 10 minutes to buy the van at Kia dealer, and when I brought home it surprised my ... read more

Good Minivan, Excellent Value

by
Oct 19, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Interior quality, value, features, powertrain, reliability, exterior styling
Cons: Fuel economy, features, cargo room behind 3rd seat
The Bottom Line: Not a class leader, but solid minivan and better than you'd expect. Buyers not bothered by what it lacks (magic 3rd seat, AWD) should consider Sedona. Tremendous value.

Summary Our Sedona is classy and conservative, well-built and reliable, with a solid powertrain, well-appointed and well put-together interior. It has many nice features but lacks some, such as AWD or foldaway 3rd row seat, that may be ... read more

by
Jun 27, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Nice options for the price, incredibly smooth auto tranny, decent power
Cons: RELIABILITY, warrant service is a hassle, gas mileage, brake system, electrical system
The Bottom Line: Avoid it, reliability is questionable, the materials are cheap, hassle to get dealer to honor warranty, spend more on a better van or spend less on a hatchback car

My wife and I were shopping for a minivan in January of 2002 and didnt have a lot of money to spend. The Kia was much cheaper than any other minivan that had similar features and the warranty seemed too good to be true. We bought our Sedona LX and ... read more

Pros: Loaded van with lots of "get up and go"
Cons: Shhh - what's that sucking sound? Oh yeah, your wallet being siphoned off for gas...
The Bottom Line: Absolutely worth the money for those who are in the market for a mini van. The 10 year Ltd warranty is a great assurance to have.
