Pros: Safety records, comfort, security, smooth, quiet ride. Cargo capacity. Cons: Mileage - that is the only one that I can state The Bottom Line: Test drive one today. You will want one.
I cannot believe that I am sitting here writing a review on an automobile. I am so pleasantly surprised however with my love of our 2002 Mercury Mountaineer that I had to throw in my two cents.
Having one grown child, I never thought that I...

Pros: New design and great engineering; Comfort, reliability, security, textures and color; smooth styling Cons: None The Bottom Line: A new SUV with styling and comfort you can dream about.
This is definitely an SUV with a presence on the road and the parking lot. This chick arrived at the Walmart parking lot and circled around for some time until she decided to use the lot that is parallel to where I parked my Jeep. Thinking that she...

Pros: Luxurious, powerful, functional Cons: poor mileage The Bottom Line: Great vehicle with style and functionality
When I saw the new 2002 Ford Explorers, I fell in love. I really liked the look of the new models. When my wife and I decided to trade in our F150 pickup truck for a sport ute, the Explorer is what we wanted. We soon realized that Ford is very proud...

Pros: Nice ride, good size, stylish, comfortable, convenient features Cons: None yet The Bottom Line: Ford really thought about this one: great ride, nice features and styling that works
Plus, there's just too many of them around. Every one in Dallas seems to have a SubUrban. I wanted something with some style, a little less common, but with a third row seat. The Mountaineer is nice because you don't have to take the back seat out when...

Pros: Comfort and handling Cons: Rear wheel bearing failure. Body module failure. The Bottom Line: I'd buy it again. Be ready for a few pricey repairs.
In 2002 I was looking to replace my 1994 Ford Explorer with another SUV. I came across a 2002 AWD Mountaineer with just 3,000 miles on it. I had been interested in trying out the new, at the time, independent rear suspension and also wanted to see if I ...

Pros: Roomy, Powerful, Stylish Cons: Fuel Economy The Bottom Line: Drive it and you too will have found the perfect SUV.
I LOVE this SUV! The V8 and AWD combination is perfect for the urban jungle. It is very smooth and nicely put together. I was able to get a sweet deal with rebates.
I looked at the GMC Envoy XL, but found it just didn't have the ride comfort...

Pros: General reliability, comfort, look, smooth ride, low maintenance Cons: Substandard brake rotors, poor Mercury customer service and customer caring The Bottom Line: I recommend this vehicle as long as it has new rotors.
A couple years ago I upgraded to the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer AWD from a 2002 4WD Ford Explorer Sport and was pleasantly surprised by the smooth ride and comfort. Over the last couple of years, I have kept up with all scheduled maintenance listed in the ...

Pros: Comfortable interior. Cons: Transmission and wheel bearing go too soon.
I bought my 2002 Mercury Mountaineer less than 1 year ago. I am having trouble with the wheel bearing and now the governor covers on the transmission are rusted through. I took it to a transmission specialist ha ha they can't get the new parts to create a seal so I have to replace the casing on the transmission. I owe over $9000.00 on it so I have to fix it and it's going to cost $3000.00 or more by the time I am through. I have read similiar reviews from other 2002 owners. Like it is our fault that ford used low grade metal and decided to change the material of the replacement parts.
I am very upset and dont think I will ever buy another FORD/Mercury product. F O R D stands for- Found On Road Dead.
