Pros: Nice styling, I liked the dash lights, controls... Cons: No power. At all. Cramped interior, my BABY couldn't fit in the back seat... The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a compact-to-mid-sized commuter car, this would work for you--but if you have kids or are going on road trips, you'll regret it--in more ways than one.
So we picked up a rental car the other day, and it had TWO miles on it. TWO! We were excited--we got to de-flower an entirely new vehicle, going where no one had gone before since leaving the factory floor. The Oldsmobile Alero was going to be ours...

Pros: Acceleration, Automatic-Transmission Performance, Value, Price Cons: Rear-Seat Entry/Exit, Small Gas tank not necessarily good for long trips The Bottom Line: Great compact/midsize vehicle, offers so much for such a great price. Coupe great for young people, Sedan for families.
Originally I wanted a Pontiac Grand Prix as my first car. I also happened to like Saab's but they were a little costly. So I stuck with the Grand Prix. I wanted either a Grand Prix GT (which has very similar performance to my Alero) or the lightening ...

Pros: Decent power with 6 cyl. Great stereo sound. Great ride with decent handling. Cons: Tight in head room. No locking gas cap. Doesn't hold value in long run. The Bottom Line: Definitely consider the Alero if looking for a mid-size 4 door car. It may not have been your first choice but it may surprise you.
I will say from the start that this car wasn't on my list when I was considering buying a car. I had decided that I would buy a car about two years old to save a few dollars since I mostly drive to and from work with the occasional trip to other cities....

Pros: "European" styling,
relatively inexpensive Cons: where's the power ? soft handling, tacky controls The Bottom Line: Find something else - better cars are out there in every category
I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out which car-buying segment Oldsmobile is trying to woo with this car. The entry-level Bimmer/Audi/Benz-buying crowd, looking for style & substance, American style ? Or perhaps the younger...

Pros: Looks good, competent handler, decent stereo, well equipped, inexpensive due to incentives Cons: somewhat compact interior, wind noise, cheap plastic feel on controls The Bottom Line: The Alero is an average vehicle in it's class, but overall a good value with incentives and warranty. Think about this way, 5 year loan, 5 year warranty, not bad!
!!!Update!!! If you are remotely interested in this car now is the time to buy! 0% for 5 years is back or a $3000 rebate is available till Sept. 02!!
Last month I had the pleasure of driving to San Antonio from Dallas, around a 320 mile...

Pros: Sleek looks, nice features and thy're giving them away Cons: Long term durability The Bottom Line: A fun, sporty sedan that looks as good as it runs. A steal with the 2002 rebates and 60,000 mile warranty
After owning a 1999 Alero GLS for 61,000 miles (see review there) I decided at the end of my lease to try Oldsmobile again. Much to my surprise I found out there were no more lease packages available (Oldsmobile is being shut down by GM) but purchasing...

Pros: Looks awesome, drives even better. Comfortable Cons: No locking gas cap, Climate control knobs are kinda cheesy The Bottom Line: I absolutely love this car. It's sporty but without being an overpriced sports car. Drives like a dream and looks awesome.
I recently purchased a brand new 2002 Old Alero GLS and I couldn't be happier. I got my model loaded with all the options including 6-way power driver's seat, power sunroof, and leather seats. I did a lot of research before buying the Alero and also...

Pros: The interior is coming all unglued and buckled in about 2 years old. Cons: Neither the manufacture or dealer will stand behind their product. The Bottom Line: The dash and three door pads came unglued virtually over night. One day it looked find, the next day it was all pulled apart and buckled.
It is a pretty to look at automobile. It drives nice on the highway. I bought mine on 15 JULY 2002. It just turned 37,000 miles while I was on vacation. When I returned the dash pad and three doors had come unglued and very badly buckled. It looks ...

Pros: Great if you have grandkids Cons: Gutless, Boring, poor quality, terrible gas mileage, small gas tank The Bottom Line: Stay away.
We bought the 2002 Olds Alero in February. Since we've had it - it's proven to be a badly built bland vehicle.
Since we've had it...(6months)
-All the paint off the radio knobs have worn off
-There is a continual 'clunk' when you...

Pros: Styling
V6 Power
Quality
Ride Cons: V6 reliability
Usual GM problems
Too bad they phased out that car. I would have sent it to Chevy or Saturn because it was one of the best small sedans GM built. The style is nice and smooth unlike the previous Achieva. The V6 is just right and the ride is smooth. Quality is quite good inside and out. The lower intake gasket failed at low mileage wich is very bad for a modern car like this. There was direction problems and leaks twice too. Otherwise, the car is very good.
