2002 Pontiac Firebird - Are There Any Real Cars Out There ?

by mike24
Nov 26 '01 - Updated Mar 07 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Sleek, quick and stylish
Cons: Other than the limited room in the back - none
The Bottom Line: I am totally pleased with the "look" and performance of this car.

I was in need of a new toy. Something new to focus on.
My thought was a new car since it's something I deal
with daily. Can't get to work without it.

I was looking for something sportier than the 1999 GrandAm
that I was driving....

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great POWER, good handling, sweet design, nice interior, just awesome! :)
Cons: bumpy road cornering. Bad in the snow.
The Bottom Line: It's history has been questionable, making many people wary of trying a newer TA. However, GM has really come through on this one.

Overview The Firebird lived through the muscle car era, lived through the death of the muscle cars, and has stood alone as the last remaining muscle car through to the ending of the century. Even though it's time has come to and end, this ...

I just wish I could replace mine when it finally wears out

Pros: Will make even a trip to the store a fun adventure.
Cons: Short errands turn into high speed country drives on twisty roads
The Bottom Line: If you want to have more than just transportation, and can live with the downsides, the Firebird is about the best deal out there. Worthy of it's muscle car heritage.

I bought my dream car as a factory order in late June of 2001. It was one of the first of the 2002 model year Firebirds off the line. I've put 32,000 miles on my baby in less than two years as a daily driver and had no cause for complaint. Price was...

The Ultimate Muscle Car!

by spdster2002
Aug 23 '02 - Updated Sep 25 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: neck-snapping acceleration, spine-compressing torque, excellent dry-weather handling (on smooth roads)
Cons: poor mileage, long/heavy doors, live-axle likes to skip around while turning on rough roads
The Bottom Line: The Pontiac Firebird is the best performance value around. Unfortunately, with SUV's and Japanese sport compacts on the rise, the Firebird seems a little out of place in today's market.

The Pontiac Firebird is the ultimate muscle car. Unfortunately, low sales brought it to its demise.

EXTERIOR: The Firebird just screams muscle car! The optional SLP Firehawk package adds high-performance tires, 17-inch painted alloy...

The Last of a Dying Breed

by bradford1971
Oct 16 '01 - Updated Jun 16 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Very Fast, Unique Styling, Last of the Muscle Cars, Exceptional Handling
Cons: Not a commuter car
The Bottom Line: This is a great car from a dying breed. Also it is rated as one of the fifth fastest production vehicles in the world.

2002, this is the last year of the Pontiac Firebird and Chevy Camaro. Other then the Chevy Corvette and the Firebird's nemesis the Ford Mustang no other muscle cars remain. This has been due a drop in sales and Mustang out sells them. The Mustang is a...

Life Seems Oh So Better Once I Slide Behind The Wheel

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Incredible horsepower, stylish sport look/feel and price to value ratio.
Cons: Low speed tight turn awkwardness and tint not dark enough.
The Bottom Line: Don't wait to buy. 2002 is the last year its made. I keep re-evaluating the decision of buying the car and I keep coming to the same answer. Oh yes!

I have always wanted to buy a fast car for the longest time but money or circumstance would deter me. I have been talking about getting the WS6 Trans AM for about three years now and now finally did just that. I have been driving the Trans AM now for...

A good buy

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reasonably quick, comfortable for 2, suspension is sporty, a head turner.
Cons: Outdated interior, steering could be more nimble/connected for a car of that class, blind spots.
The Bottom Line: Want something sportier then a dime a dozen mustang/fwd imports and have limited cash? A firebird y87/camaro rs is a perfect buy.

Product: 02' Pontiac Firebird Y87 GT/w68 I brought this Firebird to replace my 88' Firebird. Had this for 1 month. -While every once in a long while there is a hint of body flex, compared to 3rd generation inside, its a luxo cruiser. -It sits ...

I recommend this

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Cool Firehawk looks, rather nice interior, the performance and handling is neck snapping.
Cons: The ride is extremely rough. It feels like your riding a bronco.
The Bottom Line: I suggest that you purchase one. As this is the last year, you should take the option to buy one. Though it's not that big, the overall performance is great.

This car is one of the best vehicles I have ever driven. The Firehawk package only adds to the sweetness.

Exterior: It looks very cool, low and fast. With the SLP hood and the optional SLP rear deck spoiler, the car looks even better. I like...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: This vehicle out accelerates, out brakes, and out corners most other vehicles on the planet.
Cons: limited interior room for such a large looking car
The Bottom Line: Perfect performance machine under $31000

Most of the reviews I have read about this car are a joke and untrue. Obviously the other reviewers and even some online magazines like Consumers Reports were either jealous or intimidated; but, however they looked at the Firebird one fact...

Aggressive Car! Timid need not apply...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great Handling, Great Stock Performance, Outstanding Room For improvement
Cons: Small interior, Gas Guzzler, Feeling of Self Conscious when people stare at it!
The Bottom Line: It's made for what it does best..move. Try it on as a grocery getter, the square peg doesn't fit in the round hole.

I’ve owned this car for about two months now, and I’m convinced I made the right decision. I’m stationed in Great Britain so I have the opportunity to take advantage of the loose traffic regulations…more about that later! I have a WS-6 Trans Am, Navy...

May 24 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fast, Head turner, Great Handling, overall Perfect.
Cons: Expensive Tires, Nothing Important
The Bottom Line: Amazing Power, great handling, and this thing turns heads when you drive by, what else could you ask for.

There isn't much I can possibly say bad about this car, its just simply amazing. People always say that the corvette has the most horsepower per dollar but how can they say that when the trans am comes with a corvette engine and is much cheaper than its ...

THIS CAR IS WHAT MUSTANG OWNERS FEAR
by ws6freak

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Fast Great Looks Blast to drive GREAT 6 SPEED, AMAZING 5.7 SMALL BLOCK 350 V8.
Cons: None. Get it for the right reasons. For smooth ride get a Lexus.
After I saw a Firebird on the street I said to myself: "I have to buy one". So I bought a Sunset Orange Metallic WS6. Of course I upgraded some little things like wheels, tires, exhaust and intake. Not much but enough to move me from 0 to 60 in 4.7 seconds and get to 80mph in 2nd gear. With 4 more gears to use you can imagine how fun this car is to drive. It's easy to go with Porsche 911s and it's not even fun with mustangs, they always stay behind. After I got some stiffer bushings for the rear suspension what was good became excellent. The car is on rails now. Well, check for yourself right here http://home.comcast.net/~ws6freak/

The pros: FAST, FAST, FAST. GREAT LOOKS, HEAD TURNER, EASY TO DRIVE, FUN FUN FUN
