Pros: Handling, Seating, Cockpit-like interior, ample trunk space. Car for those who love driving Cons: Front end rides low, expensive parts, cup holders, troublesome computer reset. Not a beginner's car The Bottom Line: Buy this car is you can find it! Recommend 5-door over convertible (you will love the easy access to the back seating area and better handling).
5 door, Silver 9-3, Viggen, 17" ASA Rims, 215/45 Yokohama tires. Tan leather interior. 9.8K miles when purchased as a lease-return on March 17,2005 I drove the car on a 3000 mile, 2.5 day trek from DC to Sunnyvale, CA (in SF Bay Area). The car ...

Pros: Gorgeous and a pleasure to drive (turbo, baby)!! Cons: "Check engine" light comes on randomly, expensive repairs. The Bottom Line: Would absolutely buy this again (or maybe the convertible). Such a pleasure to drive (and gaze at!) that you forget about the little headaches of ownership.
I bought my beautiful black, 5-door, 9-3 used and have been in love for two years now! I love the quirkiness of Saabs. Everything from the airplane-inspired ignition, to the clever side mirrors, and the ability to actually feel the road as I drive has ...

Pros: A very fun car, shows well. Cons: Depreciation, maintenance, road noise. The Bottom Line: Based on my experience with this Saab, I would not purchase another one.
I have been the sole owner and primary driver of this car since I bought it brand new. I purchased the SE version as it came fully loaded. It is now just reaching the 100k mark, almost 80% highway driving. Other cars I have owned/own include a BMW ...

Pros: Amazingly smooth acceleration, Plush interior, Begs to be driven Cons: Annoying "Upshift" Light, Price The Bottom Line: Great lease deals. Excellent car. Sexy.
Granted, I use to think Saab owners were snobs, but with the amazing lease deals currently (as of writing) available on the 2002 SE, even average Joe can now afford one of these beauties. The car is amazing, plain and simple. I love the zip it has from...

Pros: Fully equipped, not your average convertible. Loves the road. Cons: Cup holder above the radio console. (It's the only one I could think of.) The Bottom Line: It's a great car, and I can't stop smiling whenever am driving it.
I've had my 2002 Saab 9-3 convertible for a little over a month. I had a couple of weeks in October to ride it with the top down before the cold really started to set in around here. I just LOVE the car. I can fold the top in less time than the lights...

Pros: Trunk space, TURBO is standard now! Awesome looks
Cons: The handling is a bit rough on the turns, cupholders The Bottom Line: Saabs are awesome if yer not a slaab and drive this car like its supposed to be driven!
Alright-- This is my 2nd SAAB, i also have a 1996 SAAB 900s, without the turbo, which can be sluggish, but my new 2002 9-3 is off the hook like a cordless phone!
Features of the SAAB:
- Great looks, looks like nothing else on the road

Pros: sexy, fun, fast, safe, good handling, turbo feel, space, comfortable seating for tall Cons: expensive parts & labor The Bottom Line: This car is not for A to B people, neither for nitpickers, novices to driving, but car for distinguished drivers.
Introduction: I have owned '95 SAAB 900 V6 SE, than '00 SAAB 9-3 S, and currently '02 SAAB 9-3 SE, which I am reviewing. I have black leather on silver with tinted windows piece, with 5 doors, and it is a great looking car while being understated at ...

Pros: Personality. Practicality. Classic design. Seats. Clear control layout. Cons: Some body flex. Some interior cheapness. No nav system option. The Bottom Line: A contrarian choice. But one that works very well in real world terms, blending many things in a package with gobs of personality.
Let's face it: if you've looked at spending $40k on a convertible, you have looked at other cars, too... and the Beemer seems the omni-present choice. But the Saab represents a great contrarian choice that acutally stands tall on its very own merits: it...

Pros: distinctive styling, zoomy turbo acceleration, roomy and beautiful interior, great top, fully loaded Cons: gettin' jiggly with it (body flex), last year of body style The Bottom Line: The 2003 Saab 9-3 convertible is, as other reviewers note, unique. The sport package makes this car.
I've been a Saab convertible driver wanna-be since the ragtop first came out in the late '80s. The lease on my '00 Maxima SE expires in March '03, and I'm seriously contemplating leasing a 9-3 convertible. I took a good test drive last weekend, with...

Pros: End of body style, all previous kinks are long gone. Nearly perfect! Cons: New body style offers full time 4WD, worth waiting? The Bottom Line: One of the best driving cars available today, all of the minor quirks of previous model years are long gone.
I own a 1999 Saab 9-3 5-door. This review is based on the 2002 9-3 SE loaner my dealer gave me for a few days while my car was being serviced.
My 1999 9-3 is an outstanding car. It now has 37,000 miles on it, and apart from some minor front...

Pros: smooth power, unique design, comfortable seats, high quality leather, tight handling Cons: not as tightly built as the Japanese cars, no more hatchbacks from 2003 The Bottom Line: The acceleration, handling, and comfort are great. You will also be unique. The dealerships provide free loaner cars for all your service visits.
Saabs were always curious cars. My wife and I never considered one until recently when we went to a Saab dealer for a test drive. It was just as the ads said, "Most people who test drive a Saab buy one." It wasn't as smooth as a BMW but it was a...

Pros: Looks, handling, features, fuel economy, stereo, trunk access through back seat Cons: Maintennance, convertibles have no door lock button The Bottom Line: I recommend the car if you're willing to accept the risks. Four star for joy, two star for costs, three star average.
I purchased this car used. I love this car. I think it's sexy, fast, sophisticated without being arrogant, handles well, gets great fuel economy, is comfortable, has an amazing sound system, and I feel great driving it. The pros are easy and quick. The ...

Sludge problems

Pros: Fun to drive and utilitarian. Great fuel economy. Cons: Engine sludge problem leading to total engine failure. Non-existent customer service
I thought I would buy a new Saab after my experience with my last Saab 99. The 9-3 is a great handling car and a blast to drive and the hatch makes it very useful as well as beautiful, but it has an engine sludge problem that the company only gives lip service to. Do a web search for "Saab Customer Service" and you will see at least 40 postings dealing with poor (non-existent) customer service on a major engine failure for which Saab has issued an extended engine warranty. Go to Carsurvey.org and type in Saab engine sludge. In my case, all service intervals were performed and the engine failed at 65,000 miles. This will require an $8,000 fix on a $12,000 car. After researching all these postings, I strongly urge you to not purchase a Saab. This is very painful for me because the car is otherwise fabulous. Get a BMW or Acura, etc.

Pros: Decent gas mileage on highway. Sport setting allows quick overtaking at speed. Great seats. Cons: No (decent) cupholders. Powerseats should have memory settings. Sunvisors too narrow on side windows
I've had quite quite a few cars - both domestic (F-150; chevys) and foreign (VW GTI; Camry V6 LE) - over the years. As this is my 1st SAAB, I did not buy it new but as an off-lease return - logic being that if it was prone to breakdowns, at least I wouldn't be out of pocket for all that much. No need to worry even at just under 100,000 kms (60,000 miles). Indeed, quite impressed with build quality/assembly, ergonomic design & layout and ride and handling.
