Review by long term owner - V6 AWD

by gwilkinson
Jul 12, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: easy to manouver. Drives like a car. Kids love roll down windows.
Cons: Cheap plastics, useless 4wd. Engine troubles after 5 years.
The Bottom Line: A great entry level SUV but go with newer model with Honda engine and better build quality. May be to small for family of 4.

I have owned this car since early 2004. I was not crazy about the styling then, but my wife loved it and we needed a vehicle for our new family. Since my wife mainly drives it I will start with her opinions. She loves the styling, the ride height ... read more

Runs well at 70,000 miles.

Feb 21, 2006 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Best-looking SUV around. I love to park next to Beamer or Benz-UV.
Cons: Lots of road and wind noise. Also, drafts come up around the side windows.
The Bottom Line: I recommend Saturn because we've had good experiences with the Vue and an SL before the Vue but both vehicles had expense repairs that were covered by an extended warranty.

We have a 2002 Vue - 4-cylinder, 5-speed manual shifter - now (Feb, 2006) with 70,000 miles. We drive a lot! Overall, we've been very happy with the VUE (and the SL that we had before). We did get the extended warranty and I'm glad we did because a ... read more

2002 Vue Long Term Opinion

by djvk1970
Jan 11, 2006 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Mechanically reliable, economical, quiet, comfortable ride, nice features, lots of room, good service/sales.
Cons: Minimal power, Tires/parts (ie oil/air filters) not readily available for purchase.
The Bottom Line: The Vue has proven to be a reliable, economical, and comfortable vehicle for four years and counting. Don't look for truck type features or ability though.

In 2002 My wife and I bought a Saturn Vue with the 4cyl/5speed package. My wife liked the features that allowed both her and I to operate all the controls comfortably. (I am over a foot taller than her) As we were expecting a baby at the time, we were ... read more

The good and the bad...

Jul 21, 2005 - Updated Jan 11, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good gas mileage for its class, fun to drive, handles different terrains nicely
Cons: irritating quality issues (bad latches, AC leaks, horn gone mad, etc.)
The Bottom Line: Buy it because you like it and the price is right, but expect to have little problems.

OK, we bought this vehicle in 2002, since my 1990 Honda Civic had dumped me by the side of the road... while I was pregnant. Not content with being stranded, we went in search of a new car... Since our family was growing, I wanted something we ... read more

Aug 2, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent V6 engine and well designed interior.
Cons: The transmission gives the impression of slipping when accelerating.
The Bottom Line: For a first year model, the Vue has only a few kinks. It is worth taking a look at if you are in the market for a SUV.

Dec 31, 2002 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Nice exterior, thoughtful design, price is right
Cons: Plastic, plastic, more plastic, and poor quality.
The Bottom Line: Don't buy this vehicle. It is not a good value, it is simply cheap.

The Saturn VUE has all the right ideas, and possesses everything the average SUV buyer is looking for -- at what is at first blush, a great price. For a very attractive price, one can purchase a cute small SUV, with all the bells and whistles. It is a ... read more

The Vue is Beautiful Everyday with this Mall-UV

Dec 3, 2002 - Updated Dec 4, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Nice look, smooth ride, nice get up and go, and great consumer service.
Cons: Uncomfortable back seat, doesn't look great in all colors and bad A/C.
The Bottom Line: It's the new world of Mall Utility Vehicles. It's good looking, drives smoothly, lets you haul things and doesn't deplete those precious oil stores as quickly.

I am truly pleased with this automobile overall, so I must share. My father purchased this car for himself several months ago and is pleased as punch by it, and so is the rest of the family. We had all desired a SUV in the family, but we were ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: V6 has loads of pep. Quiet, smooth, comfortable ride. Great looking. Great gas mileage.
Cons: Lots of little problems.
The Bottom Line: Over all I love my VUE, and would recommend it to my friends- which I have- but I would issue a word of warning along with it!

My husband and I stopped into a Saturn dealership on a whim one day. We were thinking of trading off our gas hog Explorer, but had no immediate plans. I had seen the VUE and loved how it looked. We have heard such incredible things about Saturn cars ... read more

VUE Bad Experience

by phirn
Sep 12, 2002 - Updated Sep 23, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Good price and value. Enjoyable ride and handling. Good mileage.
Cons: Too many problems that weren't fixed correctly by the dealer.
The Bottom Line: Buy with reservations. I had to do most of the homework to learn about the product, and the frequent defects meant frequent 40 mile trips back to the dealer.

My wife and I purchased a 2002 Saturn Vue in late March. We had been shopping for a new vehicle for several months and had considered many different brands and models. Among those we seriously considered were: Pontiac Aztec and Montana, Chrysler minivan, ... read more

Aug 1, 2002 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Nice style, fairly comfortable ride
Cons: Rattles, several recalls, suspension problems, AC Leaks
The Bottom Line: Save your money, if you want American... I'd go with Ford just because I've had a terrible track record with GM products...

I've had my Saturn VUE for about 7 months now, a total of 8 trips to the dealership for service on 14 different issues, ranging from rear suspension problems, fuel gauge quit working, rear seat brackets came loose, A/C dripping condensation on the ... read more

Loving VUE

by yehumikael
Jul 29, 2002 (Not Yet Rated)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Price, roominess, style, drivability
Cons: Interior components could be better
The Bottom Line: The VUE is the best car deal going, and those who pass it up for higher priced SUV's are doing themselves a disservice

In the past 24 years, I have owned and operated 14 vehicles, including Saabs and Acura’s. I wasn’t even considering an American made vehicle, until I saw a review on the Saturn VUE last year. I was impressed with what I was hearing, and I had always ... read more

Your New Saturn Vue!

by jodiw
Jul 19, 2002 - Updated Jul 21, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Peppy V6, drives like a car not a SUV and love those polymer body panels!
Cons: Mostly issues with new model "bugs" and interior could be a bit "classier".
The Bottom Line: Besides some minor "bugs" that have been attended to by Saturn, I love my VUE. The dealership is great, buying was a breeze and I would recommend it highly!

I am probably considered one of the more common purchasers of this size of SUV. I am a mother of two young girls (3 & 6) which obviously factored into just what type of vehicle I should purchase. I spent about 4 months test driving all the SUV's in this ... read more

Jul 3, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Styling, interior room, dent-free body panels.
Cons: Erie steering feel, poor A/C, quality not up to imports
The Bottom Line: Probably the best non-import available, but is that enough?

I really wanted to buy this vehicle. Really. I was intrigued by the styling of the Vue when I first saw one this spring, so when my wife and I decided that hauling a 2-year old around in a 4X4 Tacoma wasn't cutting it anymore, we started our new ... read more

Jun 25, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Tecnology-CVT Transmission, Electric Power Steering, Safety ,AWD,Functional interior layout Price
Cons: Interior A/C Fan Noise (just turn up the radio)
The Bottom Line: This is a must see for those retiring the minivan. Continue to have great road visibility and car like handling. Enough cargo space and great interior functionality.

The people at Saturn have put together a winning package. Functional with the right mix of size and looks. Not to mention that the VTi (CVT transmission) is fun to drive. Super low maintenance and enough cargo room for those occasional "big" packages. ... read more

Jun 7, 2002 - Updated Oct 13, 2002 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent steering, comfortable, roomy, pleasant ride.
Cons: Very limited upgradeable options.
The Bottom Line: Having had to do all over again, I'd still make the same choice... but maybe with leather seating.

I have always believed in the Saturn philosophy and loved that it was truly an AMERICAN co. However, the earlier years had only offered limited seating. Talk about compact! All that’s changed beginning with the 2002 line, ... read more

My VUE

by garluer
May 19, 2002 - Updated May 20, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Quick and spirited with the V-6. Dash layout. Cargo box for groceries.
Cons: No ashtray, uncomfortable driver seat. Cup holders way to low.
The Bottom Line: An excellent alternative to the more spendy 4WD SUV's. More than enough room especially with the fold down front passenger and rear seats.

During the test drive (V-6) I was immediately impressed with the power this vehicle displayed and the smoothness of the ride. Much better than my 93 V-6 stick shift Nissan pickup that I traded for it. It also handles and feels more like a car than a ... read more

Apr 23, 2002 - Updated Dec 13, 2003 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Good handling, access and ride. Nice instruments, easy to read and reach.
Cons: Engine noise. Whining/whistling transmission. Squeaky steering bushing. Sun visor obstructs view.
The Bottom Line: The need to fix the steering squeak and transmission and engine noises. It is a nice handling and riding vehicle. Once problems have been resolved would recommend to others.

The service is very good something Saturn owners appreciate. We have had several problems with the vehicle and the most frustrating has been the squeak from the steering when making turns at low speeds. This problem when first reported has been ... read more

Pros: poly body panels aggressive styling comfortable interior car like ride
Cons: way too expensive for what you get cheap interior
The Bottom Line: Too much $$$$ for to little truck.

Like many of you I have been awaiting my local Saturn dealer to get a few of these trucks in stock so I could take one for a test drive. I have really come to like the exterior and overall design of the Vue. However my love affair with this truck soon ... read more

Love it but wary

by mrs_teacher
Apr 3, 2002 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Optional Unique Orange Color, wonderful milk jug holder, better gas mileage than MFL
Cons: Saturn will not negotiate on the price Slightly wary as this is the first model
The Bottom Line: In all, I would recommend the Vue. I love the way it handles, and I feel like a queen driving it.

I just purchased my new 2002 Orange Saturn Vue. First of all, I must say, I love the color. It's not bright orange, but closer to a rust, and I must have had at least 50 compliments on it in the past 4 weeks of owning the vehicle. The Vue has an ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Handling, Acceleration, Appearance, Safety, Comfortable Seats
Cons: None so far
The Bottom Line: I give a strong recommendation for the Saturn VUE. For the money, it is the best buy out there.

As a first time Saturn owner and recent buyer of a Saturn VUE, my experience has been wonderful. In looking for an SUV, I met all of my criteria with the Saturn VUE. The only negative was that the finance person at the dealership got a little pushy on ... read more
