Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Toyota reliability
Cons: Interior upholstery & trim
The Bottom Line: Save some money and buy a regular Camry.

I did the stupidest thing I've ever done - I bought a car without listening to my gut instinct - luckily, it was a Toyota, and the problem is minor. Please allow me to explain. Relocating from Florida to West Virginia was stressful enough, but when my...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: High comfort, appealing design, excellent interior layout, stability
Cons: Considerable measurements, narrow tires, "fair" acceleration
The Bottom Line: If you want a peppy drive without the stiff suspension and head-ringing noise, give the Solara a try. I think you'll like it.

Well, being 17 and coming to own a Solara was definitely an unexpected maneuver in my driving career. It's my first car, and I know, you're all sitting there thinking, "Eugh. Dumb rich kids." and yeah, I know, it's terrible. But I'll have you know all...

Sporty & Refined

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Smooth ride, great acceleration for size, purchase value & re-sale potential
Cons: Tires, Toyota Service Team
The Bottom Line: Toyota did a great job making this car -- re-styled it just enough from the 2001 model.

Some background: I'm a mid 20's guy that would rather have a comfortable drive on 200-300 mile trips instead of fly. I previously owned a '98 Camry LE sedan, which was ultra-dependable, but rather bland when it came to styling.

After test...

Nice blend of Sportiness & Practicality

Aug 22 '03 - Updated Mar 11 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Quiet, very refined, exterior looks, comfortable seats, tinted windows, power
Cons: Frameless door windows, lint trap seats, stiff steering, plastic looking wood trim
The Bottom Line: You will feel like you paid alot more when driving this car. Little touches like the all around tinted windows and painted mud flaps give it the edge.

I have just over 600kms on my new 2002 Solara SE. Yes, the 2004's are almost out - making me very happy I was able to purchase this body style after seeing the new one! With Access Toyota's (what a ripoff) non-bargaining policy on the new 2003 models in ...

Pros: Excellent ride and incomparable Toyota reliability
Cons: Trunk space in convertible
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for luxury and reliability this is the car for you.

Since my 2001 Toyota Celica GT was just too small to squeeze in and out of every day I upgraded to a 2002 Toyota Solara convertible. It's a beautiful car in every respect. The V6 engine is a flawless performer which still gets reasonable gas mileage. The...

I am 17, and am an aggressive, but smart driver as the result of 2 accidents. My mom got this car after her 1994 Buick had tranny problems. Let me start by saying this car is WAY better than the Buick, which i had to drive when i got my permit. The...

Pros: Looks, Feel, Seat Comfort, Climate Control
Cons: Typical wide door on two door cars
The Bottom Line: GET ONE & LOVE IT!

I have driven nothing but Nissans for twenty-seven years, and even wrote an epinion for the Pathfinder.

My lease was coming up on my 1999 Pathfinder and I was thinking of a Maxima. I read all the reports on the Camry, Accord, and Maxima and...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: sound system, extremely quiet, great gas mileage, spacious, Lexus quality
Cons: no gas cap "string", the throw is longer than I expected
The Bottom Line: This is the best car ever. The sound system, the suspension, the space, everything is so perfect. I even slept in my car comfortably.

First of all I would like to say, “wow!” This car is totally awesome and for someone of my caliber. I mean I went from a 96 Grand Am to this! But I guess that I am a little biased because to me, if it ain’t a Toyota, it ain’t no good. But, HEY,...

Pros: This is a very dependable car.
Cons: Tell you the truth I don't have anything
I am 19 years old and I got a 02 Solara and I love it. Somebody said that it wasn't a car for younger people. But I absolutely love it and so do all my friends. It runs good, sounds good, looks good and good on gas and it can get up and fly. I have the SE so I have the sunroof and I love it, it don't leak it is very roomy. It has a huge trunk.

Love this zippy Solara!

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Comfy ride, dependable, great gas mileage.
Cons: Interior fabric is icky.
We bought this car new and have very loved it ever since. It's fun to drive, amazingly economical, has a great sound system and plenty of pep. If the interior were a bit snazzier, you'd swear you were in a Lexus. The trunk is roomy and easy to work with.

Ours is white. The paint has held up beautifully. It's kept in the garage, but still Texas summers can be murder on paint.

The car has 75,000 miles with no repairs, other than routine maintenance. Toyota's dependability is unbeatable.

If we had it to do over, we would get the leather interior. Everything sticks to this beige velour-y fabric. The only thing that removes the lint effectively is ME when I'm wearing black.

The doors are huge and the seats low. It's a challenge to wheel around in the seat to get out without opening the door so far it hits next car. Leather seats would make this easier.

Beautiful Car

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Everything is a "Pro" About this Car
Cons: 2-Door May Not Be Convenient for Families
I probably shouldn't admit this but I am an employee for an American automaker; however, Toyota's are the only cars I will drive. I previously owned a Camry which drove like a Lexus throughout its long life. I can honestly say that my Solara has proven to be even better. Smooth suspension, very comfortable leather heated seats, beautiful interior and exterior. Also, you cannot beat the gas mileage on this 6-cylinder! Not a single mechanical problem since I've owned it (2 years now).

There is absolutely nothing that I hate about this car. I think the only thing I would caution is that it IS a 2-door so it generally isn't convenient for those with kids, etc.

Bottom line: Best car I've ever owned and highly recommend it.

2002 Toyota Camry Solara: Finale for the clutch/5-speed V6 option
by ezshift5
Aug 16 '07
Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Good looks, MPG, low dealer time (few repairs needed), quiet
Cons: It ain't no Supra
'89 Supra rated a total loss after some dude failed to see the HUGE LED brake light display: what else has Toyota reliability and a manual shift V6?

I used the Auto Ass'n Buying Service and was out the door (California door now) at $24840. An overview for you:

Fuel efficiency: very high with the manual. 26-27 around town; 31-33 on the highway.

Typical Toyota reliability: only a power window switch went south - fixed under the warranty.

Real quiet on the road: you can talk in a whisper.

Snappy looking: would you believe some folk think it's a Lexus SC300? Believe it!!

Summation: I love the fuel mileage, the low noise underway and the bulletproof reliability.

I do not like the strut/shock absorber action. The car does not have taut suspension when you push it. Ditto for the forward to rear weight shift causing the front wheel drive to "chirp" when started rapidly. Sometimes you need to do this.
