Pros: MPG, quiet, roomy Cons: reliability, MPG The Bottom Line: Do not buy this car without absolute faith in your Toyota service department.
When the Prius was released in the US in 2000, I couldn't wait to get one. I test drove one when it came out, and was floored by the roomy interior, quietness of the engine, LCD display, mpg rating...this was the car of my dreams. The only negative I...

Pros: Gas Mileage, Low Emissions, Styling, Price Cons: Badly designed controls, Missing basic features, no improvements since 2001 model The Bottom Line: While I'm excited about the future of hybrid vehicles, I would recommend waiting for a more practical model to be released.
I wrote this review of the 2001 Toyota Prius almost a year and a half ago (in September of 2000), and it received a lot of attention. According to Toyota's web site, there aren't any improvements (or even changes, for that matter) between the 2001 and...

Pros: "Cool" factor, low emissions, gas mileage, turns on a dime, great resale value Cons: Stock tires, stock starter battery, pick-up and cornering, relatively loud at highway speeds, cargo space The Bottom Line: I highly recommend the Prius if you're looking for a commuter car.
I bought the Prius as a commuter car in 2002. The "cool" factor, low emissions, and good gas mileage were the main reasons I chose it. When the time came to sell it to get a bigger car in 2007, I was sad to see it go. The recommended service ...

Pros: Excellent gas mileage, runs quietly, enviromentally friendly Cons: Some design quirks The Bottom Line: Its quiet, got great gas mileage, and has a touch screen monitor. How can you go wrong with a touch screen monitor?

Pros: Excellent workmanship, new clean air technology. Cons: Poor visability for the driver. Very basic exterior body. The Bottom Line: I enjoyed driving the Prius and it is a great car for commuters and for running errands in and about the city.
Toyota Prius 2002
Give to Caesar, what Belongs to Caesar.
Any member who has been reading my reviews knows that I am not a big fan of Japanese cars. There are two reasons for this, first in the early 70’s I owned a Datsun, (now they...

Pros: Good in Wreck! MPG's, Clean, Comfortable, Fun, Cruise, 6 CD Changer. Cons: Poor controls, rattles in doors and dash, non-linear braking, distracting lcd. The Bottom Line: I now know that it holds up well in an accident. Read the reviews and consider all angles. I will be buying the redesigned 2004.
On July 2, 2003 an irresponsible driver clipped me in the right rear while on the interstate driving 60mph. I went out of control and hit the wall on my left at 60 or so.
Both airbags went off, the right one breaking the windshield. The...

Pros: Fascinating and just plain different! Cons: Seat comfort is lacking The Bottom Line: If you're energy-conscious or appreciate cutting-edge technology and like small cars. This is IT! You won't save any money on gas 'cause your gonna drive it every chance you get.
As an engineer "wanna-be" I am obsessed with energy use and waste. This car came from my dreams and does what I would have designed a car to do. If you've read down this far in the reviews you have a good idea what and how it does what it does, so I'll...

Pros: Ultra low emissions, good gas mileage, nice car for the money. Cons: Eats expensive tires, technology failures expensive, tax deduction being phased out. The Bottom Line: Wait for technology to be perfected to avoid prohibitively expensive repairs and inconvenience.
I bought this car new in 10/02 while looking for, and failing to find, a Toyota Echo for a commute car. The Echo is a tiny gas-engined Toyota that gets over 40 mpg and, at the time, cost about $10K less than the Prius. $10K is a lot of gas, even at the ...

Pros: good on mileage, great on emissions Cons: missing features, clunky UI The Bottom Line: so far, so good!
I just bought this vehicle yesterday, so this review is more of a placeholder for my future comments.
So far, i think it is a nice car, but other than the drive-train, nothing special. I'm really happy about the ridiculously low emissions (SULEV!)...

Pros: Gas mileage, Comfort, Price Cons: None The Bottom Line: Love this car, great price and you can't beat the gas mileage!
I have had my Prius for about two months now and I just love it. It is so comfortable and smooth to drive. I love that the video screen has a night dimmer and touch screen buttons.
I really like that the speedometer and other gauges are not...

Pros: mileage, comfort, low emissions, envy of my coworkers Cons: no center armrest, everyone wants to ride in my car! The Bottom Line: buy it for economy, enjoy it for comfort, but be sure the dealer's service department is good since you can't usually service it elsewhere.
After 2 years of driving my Prius in the city and on the highway, I still love it! When driving short stop/start trips, I get about 40 mpg, but with 20 minutes or longer of driving in the city, I'm averaging just below the posted mileage of 50 mpg. ...

Pros: Safe, economical, great warranty, super CLEAN, quiet, quality product. Cruise control. Cons: No fold-down back seat, no hatch-back, no sun-roof (yet!).
Tires supplied wear quickly. The Bottom Line: Economy, long-life-expectancy, quality built-in, cleanliness, good aerodynamics, and super quiet ride, plus the greatest warranty for such hi-tech. A bargain at TWICE the price!
I am thoroughly pleased with my Super-White 2002 Toyota Prius. Although I am a tall man, I find the car fits me fine and is very comfortable. The Prius design philosophy is consistently applied throughout the car. Weight is kept down to help fuel...

Pros: Clean, great mpg, stealth mode, Toyota quality. Cons: small 12 volt, soft OEM tires. The Bottom Line: Well put together car that carries the quality expected from Toyota. Test drive one, you'll like it.
Car is very cool. In my 9 months of ownership I haven't had one single issue. The first 5 services visits are FREE.. yes, FREE. That includes oil changes (unknown if this holds for 2004). Although you may have to point this out to the dealer doing ...

Pros: coolest car I have ever seen. SULEV emissions, mileage, touch screen, fancy features all over Cons: It doesn't come in a convertible The Bottom Line: My recommendation is to go give it a test drive, that's the best way to be convinced.
I've been crazy about this car since I read about it a year and a half. I finally bought it a month ago.
SULEV emissions rating stands for super ultra low emission vehicle, which is next up from zero emissions. It gets the lowest emissions of any...

Pros: Fuel economy, low emissions, fun Cons: No fog lights and none available. The Bottom Line: Go for it! It's fun, it's a good car, and it's good knowing you're doing the right thing. Even the government thinks so -- it's giving a $2000 tax rebate.
We loved if from the day we bought it, which was December 27, and more all the time. As the price of gasoline goes up, so does our smugness at having bought this car when we did. [This reminds us of the jokes about how the Prius runs not on gas but on...
