Pros: Roomy, fun, solidly built, powerful engine, and brilliant engineering Cons: Slim pickings at local dealers; leather package requires moonroof. The Bottom Line: Lots of room, lots of power, fresh funky styling make this car a real winner. Worth every penny and more.
Just in case my profile photo doesn't make it perfectly clear, I'm more than pleasantly plump. Use all the polite words you want--but ask me, and I'll tell it straight: I'm fat. I'm strong and healthy, but I'm living in a big body, one that sometimes...

Pros: quick, fun looks, safety, neat gadgets Cons: rather firm suspension, headlight problem again The Bottom Line: Definitely consider if you want the fun look of the beetle, yet strong engine
Well, when my 1998 vw beetle (reviewed) was totalled by a drunk driver, I decided I loved it so much that I had to replace it with another beetle. Though after a month a 16 y/o totalled this one, and I am now driving a 2001 jetta. Yet for that month I ...

Pros: Very convenient features, safety and acceleration; stronger engine Cons: No sturdy bumper! The Bottom Line: If you want to turn heads on the freeways and highways of America, get behind the wheels of a 2002 VW Beetle.
A few years ago, Volkswagen decided to retrofit this brand. Ever since, the craze has not stopped. From the moment these VW beetles started hitting the show rooms, many dealerships could not keep up with the demand. Based on the data provided by many...

Pros: Nimble, driver-friendly, personality Cons: only two gym bags can fit in the trunk The Bottom Line: If you commute regularly or do highway jaunts under 1000km, then this is a tremendous choice.
THIS IS MY SECOND VW.
I was originally shopping for an Audi A4 when I bought my first New Beetle in 1999. After the VW salesman promised me a 30-day 100% buyback guarantee, I took him up on it, and purchased a 1999 New Beetle 2L gas. It was my...

Pros: Great looks, functional and fun to drive. Cons: Cup holders, rear seat room The Bottom Line: You'll get you moneys worth in design and quality with this cute little car.
One has to admire the original Volkswagen Beetle car. The car name was cute and the car was so counter culture, going against any other styling cues of other car manufacturers in the 1960s, that it was a hit for VW and the people.
The design...

Pros: Very quick, sporty feel, smooth ride, good ergonomics. Cons: Awkward shift gate, front head rests are a pain, minor gripes.. The Bottom Line: This Bug is definitely a keeper. Fun to drive, great looks. The Heart of an economy car, the soul of a sports car.

Pros: Fun to drive, fun to own, fun to look at... Hey... this car is FUN! Cons: VW's are known for electrical problems... Back seats too small for tall adults. The Bottom Line: A genuine automotive anti-depressant: guaranteed to put a smile on anyone's face --even your accountant's. Would I buy one? Absolutely. :-)
2002 VW BUG (NEW BEETLE) By Matthew McLean
PUNCHBUGGYRED! SAWITFIRST! …OW! Did anyone else grow up smashing their pals in the shoulder at the first sight of a "Bug"? I sure did. The original VW Bug is solely responsible for more than four...

Pros: Good Looking, Value, Engine, Style, Unique Cons: No Standard CD Player, Tight Rear Seat The Bottom Line: The Turbo Beetle is fun, sporty, attractive and reasonably priced. The 1.8T engine is rev happy, and you will be too when piloting this sleeper.
Looking for a quick and stylish way to go over the river and through the woods? Check out the Turbo New Beetle. By now everyone is certainly familiar with the re-invented yet ultra lovable VW New Beetle. The shape of the NEW VW bug clearly...

Pros: Looks, attitude, styling, durability, build quality, fuel economy Cons: Small boot space, limited space in rear seats. The Bottom Line: A very nice car with an attitude that is irresistible.
We bought this car for my wife as she really loved the shape - and I could also accept driving it. With the 2.0 engine it is no slow ride, however, it is no sports car either. In that respect the handling is much too soft and the tires have too high a ...

Pros: Stylish, quality construction, interior space, engine, design features Cons: Back seat a little tight The Bottom Line: Quality car. European/German fun-to-drive. Peppy. Safe. And nothing looks like a Beetle!
A friend of mine just got a 2002 New Beetle and I had to have a look. I've driven mostly Fords, have had a terrible experience with the new Ford Escape, and am enjoying a BMW 3-series. So, cars are always on my mind!

Pros: Sporty, fun, eye-catching, peppy, comfortable Cons: Have never had good luck with VW Service The Bottom Line: Perfect if you love fun cars and can find a good service department and don't need a backseat.
Earlier this year I traded in my 2001 2.0 GLS Beetle for a 2002 1.8T Snap Orange New Beetle and I love it! I loved my other beetle too, but after driving a friend's turbo-charged Beetle I knew I needed an upgrade. The salesmen at our local dealer were...

Pros: Powerful, maneuverable, easy to drive, not super expensive Cons: Tiny back seats, tiny trunk, large odds of getting hurt in an accident The Bottom Line: If you can afford a newer car and have no responsibilities, there's nothing better.
Make no doubt. I care nothing about cars. "Does that thing have a HEMI?" So what? "I got super-whatever shocks on my lowrider." I couldn't care less. That being said, some cars are more fun to drive than others. Such is the VW Beetle. I have ...

This is one heck of a car. Everyone is familiar with the shape of the car, but get inside and check out the cool inside.
I have the turbo model and VW did not leave out any feature. It has power sunroof, all wheel drive anti-lock breaks,...

Pros: Stylish exterior and interior, power, comfortable, easy to maintain Cons: Low head-room in back, sun visor useless for side sun glare. The Bottom Line: Sportiness, reliability, and a comfortable trouble-free ride. Don't get it if you use a child seat -- too difficult to work with on a daily basis.
I recently purchased a 2002 Volkswagen New Beetle GLS. I'm still as thrilled driving it as I was two months ago (October 2002) when I bought it.
This car, particularly the manual transmission model, gives plenty of power and pep. There's...

Pros: Roomy interior, handles well, good in the snow, sporty and fun to drive. Heated seats! Cons: Multiple major repairs on my vehicle, very expensive to fix. The Bottom Line: I love the car but the endless and expensive mechanical problems ultimately became too much. Don't know if it's just this model year, but--- buyer beware.
A sporty and good handling car with many nice options but has been a mechanical nightmare. Have had many major repairs, including all four brakes at 40,000, complete air conditioning failure, front flex-joint, ignition coil at 50,000, and two separate ...
