by
Jul 8, 2009 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Easy to drive especially for first time drivers. Easy to maintain and safe.
Cons: Really small car. Check engine comes on even when nothings wrong.
The Bottom Line: I recommend this car to parent's for a child's first car. People who love small, fast, fun cars. AWESOME CAR.

I've had my 2002 Beetle for about 2 years and I can't say many bad things about it. So far my beetle has been through 2 accidents both should've totaled my car and hurt me pretty bad but suprisingly my car had minimal damage and the other cars had ... read more

2002 volkswagen new beetle

by
Aug 22, 2007 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Roomy interior, handles well, good in the snow, sporty and fun to drive. Heated seats!
Cons: Multiple major repairs on my vehicle, very expensive to fix.
The Bottom Line: I love the car but the endless and expensive mechanical problems ultimately became too much. Don't know if it's just this model year, but--- buyer beware.

A sporty and good handling car with many nice options but has been a mechanical nightmare. Have had many major repairs, including all four brakes at 40,000, complete air conditioning failure, front flex-joint, ignition coil at 50,000, and two separate ... read more

Well, when my 1998 vw beetle (reviewed) was totalled by a drunk driver, I decided I loved it so much that I had to replace it with another beetle. Though after a month a 16 y/o totalled this one, and I am now driving a 2001 jetta. Yet for that month I ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: It looks pretty.
Cons: It cannot be trusted to run more than a few thousand miles before it breaks.
The Bottom Line: Fun Ride But Do not saddle yourself with this debt machine.

The Good News The Beetle is a darn fine looking car. It is a real pleasure to sit behind the wheel of this car and tool around. It has a almost sport car like acceleration that will knock you back in your seat if your are not careful. On top of this ... read more

If VW knew how to fix it, it would be great!

by
Feb 11, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: When it works, it is wonderful.
Cons: No one can seem to make it work!
The Bottom Line: If VW does not know how to/ does not bother to fix the cars it builds, why buy one?

Our 2002 New Beetle TDI rides beautifully, handles like it is on rails and seemed like a great idea when we bought it. Since our purchase 2.5 years ago, the windows haven't worked correctly, and the dealer took three attempts to fix it. The glow plugs ... read more

by
Dec 1, 2004 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Beetles make SUV drivers jealous. What more do you need?
Cons: People rubber-necking to look at my baby and I cause traffic problems.
The Bottom Line: This is just a great car. It looks great, it rides great, it's economical. You can't ask for much more.

I freakin' love this car. After traveling from dealer to dealer with no particular car in mind, it was love at first sight when I found my Beetle. I walked cautiously onto the Volkswagen lot, fairly certain I wouldn't find anything in my price range. ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Powerful, maneuverable, easy to drive, not super expensive
Cons: Tiny back seats, tiny trunk, large odds of getting hurt in an accident
The Bottom Line: If you can afford a newer car and have no responsibilities, there's nothing better.

Make no doubt. I care nothing about cars. "Does that thing have a HEMI?" So what? "I got super-whatever shocks on my lowrider." I couldn't care less. That being said, some cars are more fun to drive than others. Such is the VW Beetle. I have ... read more

The Bottom Line: A very nice car with an attitude that is irresistible.

We bought this car for my wife as she really loved the shape - and I could also accept driving it. With the 2.0 engine it is no slow ride, however, it is no sports car either. In that respect the handling is much too soft and the tires have too high a ... read more

THIS IS MY SECOND VW. I was originally shopping for an Audi A4 when I bought my first New Beetle in 1999. After the VW salesman promised me a 30-day 100% buyback guarantee, I took him up on it, and purchased a 1999 New Beetle 2L gas. It was my ... read more

What a pile. Less than 18,000 miles and I've had the following repairs: Sun roof, window rolling cable, hood emblem, ABS recall, two lug bolts, inside door handles, glove box door, ceiling handle. The dealership is worthless (Ken Garff's of Orem). ... read more

by
Dec 2, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Stylish exterior and interior, power, comfortable, easy to maintain
Cons: Low head-room in back, sun visor useless for side sun glare.
The Bottom Line: Sportiness, reliability, and a comfortable trouble-free ride. Don't get it if you use a child seat -- too difficult to work with on a daily basis.

I recently purchased a 2002 Volkswagen New Beetle GLS. I'm still as thrilled driving it as I was two months ago (October 2002) when I bought it. This car, particularly the manual transmission model, gives plenty of power and pep. There's ... read more

Pros: Great looks, functional and fun to drive.
Cons: Cup holders, rear seat room
The Bottom Line: You'll get you moneys worth in design and quality with this cute little car.

One has to admire the original Volkswagen Beetle car. The car name was cute and the car was so counter culture, going against any other styling cues of other car manufacturers in the 1960s, that it was a hit for VW and the people. The design ... read more
