Pros: Fuel economy Comfortable Long maintenance intervals Design and ergonomics Good resale Cons: Higher maintenance cost Cup holders in a stupid spot Slow warm up in cold climates The Bottom Line: I would buy again, but probably a 5 speed just because they are a lot better on fuel.
The TDI in my opinion is a great car. There are alot of small problems with the car when they were new, but through recalls and warranty repair these issues should be fixed. The most common were windows that fall into the door and brake ...

Pros: Fuel economy, power, fun to drive, not hard to look at. Cons: Annoying quality issues, small rear seat area. The Bottom Line: Excellent commuter car, excellent fuel economy, good resale because no one wants to sell.
I have owned this car for 6 years and love it. I purchased this car for the fuel economy and have been laughing as I pass by the pumps especially over the last several years with $3/gal fuel prices. Depending on driving habits it will delivery 45 to 55 ...

Pros: Fun car to drive.
Handles well.
Controls well-positioned.
Comfortable. Cons: Unreliable. Mass airflow sensor problems. Peeling plastic interior. Radio quit. Crappy cup holder. The Bottom Line: Bought this car used and wish I hadn't. Love the handling and look, but am afraid it will cost a fortune in problems. Buy this one new, not used.
I bought a used 2002 Jetta TDI 9 months ago and I love several things about it: the handling, the style, the ergonomic positioning of the inside controls - this is a fun car to drive. I HATE the fact that I have had numerous problems in the nine months ...

Pros: Comfortable to drive, fairly roomy, nice styling, , better than average warranty Cons: Excessive engine oil consumption, sunroof leaking, difficult to get VW to deal with problems The Bottom Line: Will not buy another VW.
Bought a 2.0 litre 2002 Jetta GLS new. Has about 50,000 miles on it now. Fully serviced by the VW dealership since it was purchased. Piston rings had to be replaced (fortunately while still under warranty) at about 30,000 miles due to excessive oil ...

Pros: comfortable, good ride, good gas mileage Cons: expensive maintenance, problems The Bottom Line: This car looks nice and drives nice, until it has a problem, which have been happening atleast once a year since we bought it.
In the beginning of 2003 my husband wanted to replace his old VW Quantum. He'd had some VW Bugs previously and wanted to get another Volkswagen, so we headed to our local dealer and ended up buying a 2002 Jetta. We were lucky, the car we bought was a ...

Pros: Powerful engine, excellent handling, great appearance, many options, 6-speed tranny Cons: Reliability problems, badly designed cup holders, requires expensive premium grade gas The Bottom Line: If you like the sporty look with lots of power and excellent handling, this car is for you. Beware reliability headaches.
While most Jetta 2002 models can be found almost everywhere you look on the road, the Jetta GLI makes notably fewer appearances on the road due to its relatively limited production. This car is intended for VW lovers and auto enthusiasts. It features a ...

My 2002 was very generously given to me by my grandparents in early November of '05 and so far, it's proved itself as the best kept secret in fuel efficient cars. I average about 33 MPG's in crowded city driving with the A/C on. Inside the interior is ...

Pros: European style Cons: Not a real European Car; cheap copy. The Bottom Line: Save your money for a BMW. You will thank your self later.
This car seemed to be a good car when I bought it, but slowly I began to notice problems. The first problem I had with this car was the brake fluid. It had black sludge floating in it. So I drained it out and put in fresh fluid. Next thing that went ...

Pros: Fun to drive, peppy diesel, solid engineering, european suspension, stylish interior. Cons: NON-EXISTENT backseat, VW customer service is horrible, expensive maintenance The Bottom Line: Buy this car for its efficiency and long-life of the engine; otherwise, you will not recoup the above-average cost. Finally, do not purchase if you need backseat room.
I bought the 2002 Jetta TDI used in May 2004 (so I cannot speak to any issues prior to that mileage). It had 34,000 miles on it at the time. She now has just a notch over 90,000 miles, and has had surprisingly few problems. I was told by numerous ...

Pros: Sporty, comfortable, fun Cons: Haven't found one yet! The Bottom Line: I absolutely love my car. When this VW finally does have to be replaced, it will be with another VW.
I absolutely love my car. My husband and I bought it certified used, and purchased the extended warranty. We were expecting our first child and wanted a safe car for her. I had previously owned a New Beetle, and loved the support I got from VW. I ...

Pros: Stylish, TDI engine, mechanical reliability, handling Cons: Road noise, price tag, after-sale service. The Bottom Line: You might want to consider other manufacturers if you are looking more for durability and reliability. The Jetta is definitely not up to its price tag
Updated: 17-09-2005 I purchased my Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2002 in February of 2005, and without any doubt I believe that it has been the worst purchase of my life. There are many reasons why I wished to abandon this vehicle, some much more important ...

Pros: VW drive, design and features that set this apart from other cars in its class. Cons: Four cylinder a bit underpowered, very infrequent rough shifting, hearing everyone else's horror stories. The Bottom Line: Recommended if you want a small wagon and don't plan on keeping it long after the warranties expire.
We wanted a small wagon that handled as well as our previous car, a VW Beetle, but that could fit three car seats in back in addition to a rear cargo area. It has been everything we have expected from a VW: great steering, braking, etc. The car has ...

Denial of warranty repairs The Bottom Line: Wouldn't buy or lease a Jetta again. Just too many problems for me to want to try it again.
After many long, wonderful years with my 1991 Honda Accord EX, I had to finally break down and get a new car. The transmission finally went kaput. I started out looking at Honda's, Toyota's, Mitsubishi's and the like. I just didn't find anything ...

After buying my first new car ever (1995 Jetta GL) I was hard core sold on VW's products. I even sold VW's for a short time at a dealer in Kentucky. When it was time to replace my wifes aging jalopy with something newer, there was no question in my ...

Pros: Best feature: transmission -- it learns your driving style Cons: Worst feature: Cup Holder position. The Bottom Line: Buy It. You can't go wrong with any version of this car. Economy diesel or 2.0gas, performance 1.8T or VR6. I'm buying a 2004 GLS 1.8T w/ 5spd MT.
Bought my 2002 2.0 Jetta in 2002. Have over 40K miles on it. Dealer is fantastic. Best ownership experience ever. Down time has been the least of any of the 8 cars I have owned. Have had car in for warranty work 2 times. 1 for rare fluid leak ...
