Pros: Radio sounds good. Blue dash lights are cool. Cons: 11 different repairs in 16 months is all I have to say. The Bottom Line: 11 repairs in 16 months, stay away from this car...

Pros: Plenty of power; Cool interior lighting (purple and red). Cons: Lot's of warranty problems & recalls; major wind buffeting noise; shifting is not smooth (automatic) The Bottom Line: It's too bad there aren't more diesel cars on the market because the diesel engine is great technology. The package around the engine... Plagued with problems.
I purchased a 2002 VW Jetta Wagon TDI. The first problem, which I was told could not be fixed, was the tremendous wind buffeting noise that occurs when the windows are down. I am constantly having to adjust the windows (sunroof, front, and rear) at...

Pros: European style Cons: Not a real European Car; cheap copy. The Bottom Line: Save your money for a BMW. You will thank your self later.
This car seemed to be a good car when I bought it, but slowly I began to notice problems. The first problem I had with this car was the brake fluid. It had black sludge floating in it. So I drained it out and put in fresh fluid. Next thing that went ...

Pros: Fuel mileage, interior, handling Cons: Cup holders block CD player and radio The Bottom Line: 50 mpg and fun to drive
The new TDI(turbocharged direct injection) diesels are nothing like the diesels of the past. They are quiet, clean, and efficient. The diesel mileage is excellent at 50mpg. The new TDI diesels use glow-plugs to start in the winter and generally take a...

Pros: When the car is in working condition acceleration and handling are above average. Cons: In repair shop 5 times in first 14 months. Lemon. The Bottom Line: Avoid it. 5 visits to repair shop in first 14 months. 8 previous years with problem free Hondas. Enough said.
I did my research prior to leasing my 2002 Jetta 1.8T and according to the experts and most owners the consensus was "good car". Mine isn't.
I've had mine for 14 months and it has been in the repair shop 5 times. The coils have went on 2...

Pros: looks, mileage, safety, quality, handling, 5-spd manual transmission, engine Cons: Monsoon sound system, cheap looking arm rest, rear leg room, auto tranny The Bottom Line: Recommended, oozes quality for this class of car, Wash., D.C. to Denver with one fuel stop...wow!, avoid Monsoon sound system, 5-spd better than the auto tranny. Tops in safety.
Through the first 3000 miles we have averaged 46 mpg, with a high of 51 mpg. Do not be scared away by the engines 90 hp rating, it has gobs of torque. Torque is what gets you moving, up hills, etc., think of torque as pulling power. Engine is quiet...

Pros: Best feature: transmission -- it learns your driving style Cons: Worst feature: Cup Holder position. The Bottom Line: Buy It. You can't go wrong with any version of this car. Economy diesel or 2.0gas, performance 1.8T or VR6. I'm buying a 2004 GLS 1.8T w/ 5spd MT.
Bought my 2002 2.0 Jetta in 2002. Have over 40K miles on it. Dealer is fantastic. Best ownership experience ever. Down time has been the least of any of the 8 cars I have owned. Have had car in for warranty work 2 times. 1 for rare fluid leak ...

Pros: Fun to drive and great mileage. Cons: Power windows have failed. The Bottom Line: European ride at a fraction of the cost. Great for commuting and running around town. Too small for a family car.
I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of pep. This is definitely not like diesels that I had driven before. The ride is excellent and reminds me of more expensive European cars. I feels that this car is great for commuting and running around town....

Pros: Comfortable to drive, fairly roomy, nice styling, , better than average warranty Cons: Excessive engine oil consumption, sunroof leaking, difficult to get VW to deal with problems The Bottom Line: Will not buy another VW.
Bought a 2.0 litre 2002 Jetta GLS new. Has about 50,000 miles on it now. Fully serviced by the VW dealership since it was purchased. Piston rings had to be replaced (fortunately while still under warranty) at about 30,000 miles due to excessive oil ...

Pros: Styling, turbo, fuel economy Cons: terrible quality control, indifferent dealers The Bottom Line: VW ruined a beautiful car with miserable quality control in the construction line.
I have been a VW owner for decades, having had a 77, 81 and 86 Westfalias, a 95 Passat wagon, and two 70's beetles. (All German built). Since I was in the market for a city car for my family and newly licenced daughter I thoroughly researched my options...

Pros: Style, Handling, Mileage, Diesel Rules! Cons: Some squeaks inside when it's cold The Bottom Line: I would absolutely buy another one of these, and am considering one for my spouse instead of her gas guzzling SUV.
I love my Jetta!
I've had it for about 7 months and have driven 14,000 trouble free miles. It's an excellent car that combines performance, style, affordability, and operating costs. It's fun to drive and handles really well. Remember that...

Pros: Great MPG, excellent safety, superb handling, and lots standard. Cons: Size - could use a little more room, mainly back seat leg room. The Bottom Line: It costs more than other cars of its size, but you get what you pay for.
I've put almost 5000 miles on this car and it is delivering all the way. I'm averaging about 49 mpg (85% highway) and I'm not even babying it. It handles the curves like a dream. There's plenty of pep and it has enough power to maintain the cruise going...
