Pros: As always with Volvo, safety first. Powerful and stylish.
Cons: Sluggish auto-transmission and pricey when full equipped.
The Bottom Line: The S60 Volvo is an excellent that comes with safety in mind and styling follows closely. For the young and the old.

The Volvo S60, 2002.

Rounded of the Corners.

I always believed that Volvo made some very good cars. I personally never owned one but I have rode and driven in many.

It seems that some of my friends, in-laws and...

Jan 14 '02 - Updated Sep 25 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Uncompromising comfort and safety. Excellent balance of handling, acceleration, and braking. Price/feature balance.
Cons: Having to buy option GROUPS. Dealer service is expensive. Single CD stereo.
The Bottom Line: Has it all, with quality. I recommend it! Go with the 2.4t with 17" wheels, it is vastly better than the base configuration and has near-perfect balance.

Each time I shop the near-luxury segment, I try to sample all the big hitters with an offering at or under $35k (that's my limit). Twice now, I thought long and hard about the Acura TL. Twice now, I've wound up in a Volvo. Last time out, it was the...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Style. Performance. Comfort. Volvo?
Cons: AWD should have option for larger engine.
The Bottom Line: I truly fell in love with this car. It is a joy to drive, and you can not find a better value for the money.

I have an S60 2.4T AWD with every option possible. I have been driving this car constantly since I bought it four months ago, and have enjoyed every second.

Exterior - That's a Volvo? is the question that I usually receive regarding the...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Sporty, Luxurious, Safe, Lots of Toys, Solid body, Driving confidence, Affordable
Cons: Random breakdowns, maintenance, availability of good mechanics
The Bottom Line: Once you go Volvo, you never go back.

I have owned two S60s and, in the process, converted family members into an S80 as well as an XC90. Loyal follower? You betcha! My current S60 is the 2.4L Turbo model. I love it death. I've never owned a car longer than 3 years and I've had this one ...

Great car! Buy the Camry.

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: excellent handling, bold styling, incredibly comfortable seats, good ergonomics
Cons: obstructed side view, cramped back seats, expensive maintenance costs , poor dealer support
The Bottom Line: Buy the Camry which has a superior reliability record, excellent dealer support and less expensive repairs and maintenance.

Well the time has finally come to put the 1987 Honda Accord to sleep. It was a great car and I loved every minute of owning it but it was beginning to nickle dime me and the expression "cars in Canada don't wear out, they rust out" was true. Thus, I had...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: acceleration, looks, engineering, customizable, price, comfort
Cons: turning radius, expensive repairs, cheap interior (fit and design)
The Bottom Line: See write-up

Have owned the 2.4t model for 7 months and got it with 73000 miles. Very few repairs needed to be done besides brakes and a coolant leak that were there before purchase. Gets the average mileage of about 25 MPG which is what I found online also. There is ...

S60 2.4 T vs. BMW 3 Series: You Decide

by kingsley90
Aug 27 '02 - Updated Mar 12 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Leaves the 3 Series in the dust in regard to style, comfort, -- and safety.
Cons: Improvement needed on interior trim options, dirty engine compartment, BLAND color options.
The Bottom Line: Still reliable after 1 year. Definitely not for everyone, but certainly worth considering.

If you are considering leasing or buying a 2002 BMW 3 Series, consider taking a test drive in a Volvo S60 w/the 2.4T upgrade. Having tested one brand and purchasing another, we feel as though we made a wise decision with our Volvo -- almost 2 years ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Great exterior styling, original design
Cons: relatively drab interior/interior materials low quality, cramped backseat, price dramatically increases with add ons
The Bottom Line: A great looking vehicle, but low performance for the price

Volvo has a strong heritage behind it, and the transfer of parental control to Ford had the critics talking. Could Volvo preserve its reputation of safety and innovation despite an automaker that had a history of putting priority behind cutting ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: WONDERFUL seats, drives beautifully
Cons: poor mileage, limited visibility
The Bottom Line: I prefer the Volvo S60 to the top ranked BMW 3 series. It is a great car.

We bought an S60 about six months ago, a new 2002, bought at an excellent price after the 2003 cars were out (unchanged). In general we are very happy with the car, although there are some complaints and worries. We wanted an all-wheel-drive car, and...

Awesome New Volvo

by volvinator1111

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fast, comfortable, fun.
Cons: Some may not like the exterior looks. Daytime running lights hard to turn off.
The Bottom Line: Excellent, sporty car for a bundle less than the BMW 5 and the Mercedes E class.

I must first be honest; this car is out of my price range. My mother recently purchased this Volvo S60 but I have driven S60's extensively, especially hers when I am home from college.
Why is it that the young can never afford such fun cars...

Pros: Fast,Firm,Comfy,Lots of safety features, 100k bumper-to-bumber. Not bad-23 miles a gallon.
Cons: The R series dash gauges are not available as an upgrade for a S60 2.4T
The Bottom Line: Get it. You'll love it.

I looked at Mercedes and BMW and Lexus and Acura. First time I have been shopping this upper market for a car but found many surprises waiting for me. The BMW was not what I thought it would be... The mercedes was more pricey than I thought it would ...

Pros: Very safe car! I got in a wreck while eight months pregnant and walked away.
Cons: Electrical system is very touchy and the parts are extremely expensive!
The Bottom Line: This car has had a lot of problems for owning not even a year. The safety is wonderful though! I would buy this car again in a heartbeat!

LOVE this car!
by christinec222

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Beautiful body style, comfortable and luxurious interior, and the superb safety features of a Volvo.
Cons: The base engine leaves a little to be desired in initial launch and power.
Volvo certainly has come a long way from a design point of view. What's not to love about the exterior styling of this sleek car? Although not the very latest body style, the 2002 model is very similar to the newest models rolled out by Volvo. I was very pleased with the interior as well. This car with its stylish good looks has many safety features which one would expect from Volvo.

Aimed at keeping the driver's eyes on the road, there are controls for the radio/CD player and cruise control positioned on the steering wheel. A message scrolls across the display panel if a headlight or marker light goes out, freeze warnings are displayed when temperatures dip near freezing, and daytime running lights.

The car handles well on long trips and none of my passengers have ever complained of cramped space or an uncomfortable riding experience.

The only negative I see with this model is the base engine. If you get the S60, the turbo model has a lot more initial launch and power. If this is important to you, definetly go with the turbo.

THE WORST CAR AND COMPANY!!!!!
by awnappo
Mar 31 '05
Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No
Pros: Big safe(so I thaught) heavy car.Nice interior.
Cons: The worst company, plus a disposition fee $395 at end of lease. Thanks Volvo.
Stylish body nice to look at. Better than previous boxy volvo's. Nice interior , leather ,controles ect. Nice wood grain. But that it. I baught a 2002 vovlo brand new for my wife. At 18k miles or so the car would just shut off when stoping. After bringing it to volvo 4 or 5 time they finally fixed it. I had to pay for a rental at my own expense, they only give loaners for a day, do you believe that. Brakes go fast and often and dont even think about getting repairs done at the dealer(BIG MISTAKE) total rip off. If you lease be carfull of that stupid disposition fee at the end $395. They say every car company does it but they are liars. I just leased a new Acura MDX and they dont neither does Infinity or Lexus. Do not buy the absolute worst car I have ever owned and the worst company I have ever dealt with. Thank for nothing Volvo. I would Rather walk than buy this piece of junk.
