A decent car for a decent price.

by
Nov 13, 2009 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Acceleration, reliability.
Cons: Outdated interior fit and finish
The Bottom Line: This is an overall good luxury car for those who are fiscally responsible.

As a previous Audi owner I have to admit I loved my Audi way more however after the poor reliability and outrageous cost of routine maintenance, I was ready for something more reliable. The TL was a good choice. I like the style of this TL more than the ... read more

2003 3.2 TL Type S Acura Transmission

by
Apr 16, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Fabulous engine power, great handling, wonderful options including the navagational system.
Cons: I am fearful that transmission will fail and I will be stranded.
The Bottom Line: I do not recommend this car because of the inability of Honda to solve the transmission problem.

I have to say everything about the quality of the TL-S is true. However, so is the problem with the transmission. I have had 2 new transmissions installed in my car. The first one failed at 77K miles after Acura installed a secondary oil pump for 2nd ... read more

Acura TL Transmission

by
Apr 4, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Transmission issues supercede any other intrinsic values of the car.
Cons: See Review Above.
The Bottom Line: The transmission issue is very clear - the class action is factual and specific. The safety risk, decrease in value and inconvenience deteriorates the purpose of having this car.

It appears that the transmission on the Acura TL is subject to multiple repairs/replacement, having little or no reliability for the long term. I purchased a 2003 Acura Type S in May of 2002, and experienced the following: Transmission replacement ... read more

Reliability is thy name

by
Dec 29, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable, Smooth drive. Backed by the Honda/Acura name.
Cons: Minor negatives (see review), but I would still buy again.
The Bottom Line: Great family car. Comfortably sits our family of four. It gets a little congested in the back seat with 3 people.

I purchased my 2003 Acura 3.2TL about 3 months ago. I think it was a good decision. The car had 35k miles on it and now I have driven for about 4k miles. It came fully loaded with all the bells and whistles. Every one lists how great the car is - ... read more

Fast, competent but flawed near-luxury car. Oh well...

by
Nov 1, 2005 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Stealthy, fast, roomy, relatively good fuel economy
Cons: Needs more tire, average stereo, transmission problems, huge turning radius
The Bottom Line: A fast, roomy family car thats a bit sporty but sensible

This review might be a little late but might help people considering buying a used Acura 3.2TL Type-S. I've owned mine for almost three years, and have seen both the good and the bad about this car. Let's start with the good. First off, Honda makes ... read more

Transmission - 2003 TLS

by
May 4, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Rapid acceleration and astute handling.
Cons: No solution has been attained regarding the faulty transmission.
The Bottom Line: Transmission flaws make a good car a lemon.

It appears the transmission is an issue. I purchased my 2003 TLS in May 2002. I notices the transmission seemed to be slipping at approx. 28K miles. The dealership replaced the entire transmission with a remanufactured one. After 6 months, the ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: High feature content, lost of power, Honda quality
Cons: Not rear wheel drive, some transmission issues, tires
The Bottom Line: An excellent car, both in terms of value and performance. Just be sure to check its repair history to see if it had any transmission problems.

2003 Acura 3.2 TL (not the Type-S)

by
Dec 22, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Brisk acceleration; excellent acoustic insulation; bright xenon headlights; well-thought-out features; Bose sound system
Cons: Poor lumbar support; spongy cornering and high-speed handling; requires premium fuel
The Bottom Line: Overall it's a great car and Acura offers good warranty service. Isolates you from the noise of the outside world leaving you to enjoy the sounds you choose to hear.

Leave it to the Japanese to come up with something that is as functional as it is visually appealing. This car has brisk acceleration - you will find yourself passing others for sport; blazing xenon headlights - these things should be illegal they're so ... read more

2003 Acura 3.2 TL Type S.....Worth Every Penny (and that's not a lot of pennies)

by
Aug 9, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Not pricey, very powerful, great sound from exhaust and of course classy
Cons: Real wood look (interior) only with white or black exterior, low ceiling
The Bottom Line: This is by far the best $31,000 car on the market...safe, style, performance, luxury and dependability.

I'll start by saying I own a 1996 Acura 2.5 TL which is a great car, but I've had it for 5 1/2 years ... read more

Tremendous value - perfect for new entrants to the luxury car category

by
Jun 2, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Value, included options
Cons: Control layout, 'zig-zag shifter', turning radius
The Bottom Line: Great value... At this price, it's hard to get power, reliability, and luxury. Not a snobby "status" car, but well on its way!

Acura is a great brand for the young professional looking to enter the luxury sedan lifestyle. Sporty performance and appearance, all the luxury you'd expect, and at a price point no competitor can match! The S-Type engine provides ample ... read more

Acura does it for me

by
May 28, 2003 - Updated May 29, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Bumper to bumper its a great car and a joy to drive
Cons: My daughter may want to drive it when she gets her license.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a relatively affordable yet upscale ride then this is a ideal choice. The TL-Type S is fast and fun.

I have to say I love everything about this car. And I did a lot of research..like almost twenty years worth. Well that's not exactly true. Basically the last new car I bought myself was my much beloved 1984 Honda Prelude. I say that was the last new car ... read more

Attention value shoppers in the near-luxury segment, this may be the car for you!

by
May 21, 2003 - Updated Mar 9, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Value, Fit and Finish, Handling (for a front wheel drive car), ergonomics
Cons: Its a slightly larger, well-appointed Honda Accord
The Bottom Line: The TL - Type-S or otherwise - is an excellent car at an unbeatable price.

I recently had the opportunity to drive a relative's two-month-old TL 3.2 Type S for a couple of weeks and here is what I have found: Styling: The Japanese trio (Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti) of automakers has rarely taken chances ... read more

Beware of thieves

by
Feb 24, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Nice Ride, Japanese design
Cons: Poor headlamp design, boring styling
The Bottom Line: Don't buy this car unless you want to constantly worry that your headlights are going to be stolen, pay higher premiums and lose work time.

I enjoyed owning this car until my headlamps were stolen for the first time. The car is now in the shop because they were stolen a second time -- all in a period of 5 months. The headlamps are very expensive and Acura made it quite easy for thieves to ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good Power, Traction Control, Luxury
Cons: No Adjustable rear headrests
The Bottom Line: A good car for the money, but you must sacrifice some items that others have.

The Acura 3.2TL is an excellent car overall. It has luxurious leather seating, good options and a powerful engine. The car handles confidently on the side streets and highway and is always ready to give more power. There are some issues that ... read more

Simple design conceals agressive and powerful drivetrain

by
Nov 6, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: well-thoughtout interior, instant response from pedal push, smooth torque curve
Cons: too much plain plastic in interior, could use more headroom
The Bottom Line: If you can overlook the lack of lavish interior treatments and accept the fact that the headroom is about the same as any 20k-40k range car, then you've gotta winner.

This review is for the TL Type S. I love the styling of this car. It's understated, smooth, and simple. The 260hp engine is quiet and refined. When you push the pedal, instant response, unlike the Infiniti G35, which revs up and down and ... read more

Overall ... not impressed with the luxury for the $$ spent

by
Oct 14, 2002 - Updated Jan 5, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Type S = 260HP!!!, Price 30K
Cons: Seat comfort, transmission issues, HID Light theft, Michelin stock tires SUCK!!
The Bottom Line: This car is quite unimpressive for 30k. Contenders such as the Infiniti G35 and the Nissan Maxima are becoming more and more attractive.

I would have to say that the 2003 TL S-Type is an overall disappointment for a 30k. The stock tires are terrible. Pronounced road noise is heard in cabin due to the tires and an overall rough ride is felt until I changed out the stock tires. The seats ... read more

by
Sep 19, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great Engine, everything is standard, excellent value.
Cons: Transmission sometimes loses its smoothness.
The Bottom Line: This car is great value with a quality feel and an outstanding level of standard equipment. It is very fast too!

I have had my 2003 TL-S for about five months now. I researched several cars in the $30K range and could not find a better combination of luxury, sports and standard equipment at the price. I had read several good reviews about the TL and was in the ... read more

Cost Effective Luxury

by
Sep 12, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Cost effective near-luxury; Good fit and finish
Cons: Poor speakers
The Bottom Line: Recommend the car as a good value in this market segment. No regrets but I will plan on performing some speaker upgrades.

I spent the better part of a year researching what car I wanted and picked the Acura TL after looking at Maxima, Accord, Camry, Passat, ES 300, and I35. I wanted a near-lux sport sedan but without spending over $30K new. The 2003 Acura TL 3.2 ... read more
