M3 lives off of unwarranted prestige

by garrisonsurg
Aug 07 '07

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Fast in a straight line. Pulls off the 'neo-muscle car' look better than most.
Cons: Fun to drive factor lacking.
The Bottom Line: if you must have the BMW cache. But for the money, it is not a pure sports car. It makes too many concessions to luxury and comfort adding weight.

I preface this review- 2003 M3, SMG II, Dinan chip. Previous cars -Toyota MR2 turbo 1993, Honda S2000, Honda CRX, BMW 318i, Mazda RX-7 turbo. I returned the car bought used to the dealer after 5 days. I admit, the looks are pure muscle car. However ... read more

Looks sportier than it truly is

by ze_shark
Aug 22 '06

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Performance vs price, equipment, comfort, great looks
Cons: Awful manual gearbox, softer than it seems
The Bottom Line: Looks can be deceiving, the M3 is not as sporty as it could be. Get a SMG2 if you want one anyway.

I bought a used '03 6-speed M3 Coupe with 19" wheels more or less on reputation: the packaging of a usable every day car, Porsche Carrera beating performance and sleek sporty looks. A year later, I am selling the car for relocation reasons, but without ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Driving experience unmatched - very tight. Fit and finish superb!
Cons: Not many. Slightly expensive, if you compare it to other domestic cars.
The Bottom Line: Would highly recommend BMW if you love to drive. Wished we would have gotten a stick.

After being a loyal GM consumer for years, I broke down last year and bought my 1st foreign car. I must say, should have done it sooner. I bought my wife a used fully loaded 330i 4 door coupe (premium sound system and sports package). We found a ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Great handling, breaking, low wind noise, looks, gas mileage, warranty coverage, did I mention handling?
Cons: Sound system, overall reliability, annoying brake dust on rims
The Bottom Line: All in all this is a great-looking car that is a blast to drive, but unfortunately BMW reliability leaves something to be desired.

I purchased this car for my wife as a reward for years of driving older, run-down cars. This was actually our first brand-new car purchase (my Harley doesn't really count). This car is an absolute blast to drive and gives a real sense of confidence at ... read more

The BMW M3 - Pure Driving Pleasure

by krazyme
Oct 15 '04

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Safety, race engine, high-limits handling, track capabilities, seats 4, cargo space, sport interior with luxury
Cons: Curb weight, questions on long-term reliability of drivetrain, 1-2 shift difficult to master, heavy clutch
The Bottom Line: If you want speed and practicality, look no further than the E46 BMW M3

Introduction I've had my car for 1.5 years now so this is a good time to give an epinion on the longevity of the car for the used or CPO car buyers. I own a 2003.5 M3 with a build date of June 2003. If you are looking at 2003 M3's, 2003.5 is ... read more

The Ultimate Tanning Machine...

by u0088782
Feb 09 '04

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fast. Sexy. Pinnacle of German styling and engineering. Bargain compared the AMG. Reliabilty.
Cons: SMG. Interior trim. Navigation and "premium" sound system. Stiff suspension. City fuel economy. Dealer markup.
The Bottom Line: Hands down the best sports convertible for under $100K. The next step up is a Mercedes SL - more prestige, but it's debatable whether you really get more car...

I could go on and on about how this is a great muscle car, a chic-magnet with beautiful looks, but anyone who is considering this car probably knows all of that by now. Instead I think it would be much more helpful to point out some of the aspects that ... read more

Slightly Disappointed

by etothed
Aug 21 '03

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Acceleration, smooth ride, nice looks
Cons: Seats do not hold you, mediocre handling
The Bottom Line: Think twice. Handling- average, seats- poor. So what if it is faster than a 911? It's nowhere near the quality.

I was very exciting about stepping up from a 1997 328is to the 2003 M3. I assumed it would be the u ... read more

2003 M3 Convertible - SACRIFICE NOTHING!

by sholakh
Mar 03 '03 - Updated Oct 05 '04

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Body Styling, Engine Power, Quality Build, Comfort (for a sport car)
Cons: Adults cannot sit in back seats comfortably. Upgraded sound system isn't good.
The Bottom Line: The evolution of BMW vehicles has brought us this Ultimate Driving Machine. I am truly lucky to be an owner. May everyone enjoy one in their lifetime.

This convertible M3 is nothing short then amazing. I hate to say its a practical car, because it isn't. (Can't be practical at $60k plus) But if you want the most practical sports convertible car in this range, this is it. Lets start of with the ... read more

An Amazing Adventure Every time You Drive It!!

by alexb78
Feb 01 '03

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great handling, quick, great interior
Cons: poor gas mileage
The Bottom Line: This is a great car, it has virtually everything you could want- looks, comfort, speed, and great handling.

WOW. This car is amazing. I first went on a test drive and I had to buy it. I took European Delivery (that's why it was only $65K) and drove it on the infamous autobahn. I wish we had freeways like that here in the US. Besides that, this car is perfectly ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent handling, well sculpted body, and all around beautiful car.
Cons: this car is what the police watch out for.
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended because of its positive handling and relaxed interior for the ultimate driving experience

First of all I would like to note that despite the title, it is a 2003 BMW M3, I could not choose the proper year from the list. But on with the review...if you have a good 50 grand to spend on a car I would highly recommend this car. I have only owned ... read more

2003 BMW M3 Cabriolet

by markmart
Nov 14 '02

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Exhilirating performance, Taut handling - even the Cabriolet. SMG Tranny is HOT!!
Cons: Weak on creature comforts like garage door opener. Harmon Kardon Stereo weak also.
The Bottom Line: Just test drive the car with the SMG transmission. You will feel like Michael Shumacher behind the wheel. Subtle styling hides the great performance too which is fun in itself.

Thinly disguised racing machine is a perfect description of this stealthy rocket ship. The SMG transmission is incredible - I want to put on a helmet when I get in the car for weekend fun. The car is solid as a rock which is rare in a cabriolet. The ... read more

Pros: Steering, Handling, Brakes, Suspension
Cons: Headlights are not really as bright as I want
I have had my black 2003 M3 for 4 years now, and I still love it just as much as when I first purchased it. The steering is absolutely glorious. I have owned a Mercedes S-Class and this BMW puts it to

Pros: Performance rivals that of cars much more expensive.
Cons: I can't afford to own 2 of them.
Its a well known fact that performance is job one for the M3, and it never dissapoints in that arena. I frequently take advantage of the opportunity to get it over 165MPH (appx. 170mph before the speed limiter kicks in) on the autobahn. Trust me, this
