Z4OOOOOM!

by
Feb 6, 2005 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Performance, Looks, nice interior
Cons: Only uses "Super" level gas. Seats not comfortable for long trips. Could use more gadgets
The Bottom Line: Great car, even for the high price. Absolutely impractical for anyone, but thats not the point is it?

I bought my 2003 Z4 (2.5L) back in August 2003. So far I have no regrets. Performace: Very good. It isn't the fastest thing on the road, but it sure feels and looks like it is. The powerful sound of this engine may force you to write checks your ... read more

BMW Z4 3.0L Roadster

by
Sep 20, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fast, refined, and economical to operate
Cons: Jerky clutch, numb steering.
The Bottom Line: If you like the look, it is a very capable sports car. Excellent reliability and performance, compromised only by jerky clutch and numb steering.

Looking back, after 1 1/2 years of ownership, my Z4 has been a fun car but disappointing in some ways. I ordered my 2003 BMW Z4 as replacement for my 1997 BMW Z3, a car which I really enjoyed. I equipped the car with the big 3.0 liter engine, a six ... read more

2004 BMW Z4 3.0i

by
May 7, 2004 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Power softtop with hardtop option; beauty, power, fit and finish, sound quality from the speakers.
Cons: Hardtop not automatically retractable like an SLK's; limited stereo features; very limited storage space.
The Bottom Line: You'll love it if you want a roadster and you can live with its room limitations. One of life's joys.

From any angle except straight-on from the front, this beauty is a work of art. The 18" Ellipsoid wheels on the 3.0i Sport Package make it look even more gorgeous. The power flows smoothly and makes you confident. In the twisties, it simply won't ... read more

by
Mar 31, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Handling, brakes, killer discounts (7.5K under MSRP when I got mine).
Cons: Revs too high in 5th gear at freeway speeds
The Bottom Line: Excellent

Got some time on my hands tonight, so here's my review of my now 5-month old Z4. I hope this would help you with your decision if you're considering getting one. Here goes: I have one thing to say about my Z4: a well done engineering job. It doesn't ... read more

Great car; shame about the tires!!

by
Feb 7, 2004 - Updated Apr 10, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Styling, fairly spacious interior with infinitely-adjustable driving position, quality construction, good-sized trunk.
Cons: DIABOLICAL TIRES!! ; sound system; short seat-cushions; poor interior storage space; useless "Slipstream Deflector".
The Bottom Line: Not recommended while it has these "Run-flat"tires. I enjoyed mine for just 7 months, and gave up on it after two $400 punctures! Great car otherwise.

April 10th UPDATE : I TRADED MINE TODAY!! Blame it on the cursed RUN-FLAT TIRES! After two flats in less than 3200 miles, I just couldn't afford to take a chance on it any longer, and I no longer trusted taking it on a long trip. The ... read more

Lots of Fun, Some Minor Issues

by
Jan 9, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Looks, DSC, handling, auto top, FUN!!!
Cons: A little pricey, a tad delicate, expensive options
The Bottom Line: Recommended without reservation. It's a daily dose of car therapy to drive home from work with the wind blowing through your hair and your engine roaring like a lion.

Details - 2003 BMW Z4, 3.0L engine, convenience package, no sports package. Purchased in June 2003, driven for about 6000 miles. For a tad bit of background, we are a young professional couple that purchased the BMW Z4 as our one big splurge. After ... read more

All Looks, No Substance

by
Oct 20, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Exciting Styling, Auto Top, Sound - Speakers & Exhaust, DSC, MPG, Real Head-Turner
Cons: Quality Control, Costly Options, Underpowered Engines, Poor Seats, Rough Ride, Horrible Service
The Bottom Line: Not worth it unless this is a second car. Neither practical nor competent.

Of the 4 BMW's I've owned, this is the only one assembled in the U.S. and I do believe that that shows. It is entirely possible that since I bought one of the first ones available, that the car hadn't been around long enough for the quarks to have been w ... read more

by
Aug 13, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Performance, good looks, 6 speed, awsome cornering
Cons: Leg room (I'm 6'4"), Seat support (ditto), expensive options (welcome to BMW)
The Bottom Line: If you have the money and are under 6'-2" don't hesitate. If you're 6'4" (or have a large girth) consider surgery.

Very happy with looks & performance. Wish spoilers, skirts & wind shields were not such expensive o ... read more

Pros: Great Power, Handles like a baby.
Cons: Shifts like a semi tractor, what the heck

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Killer looks, great engine, awesome handing, solid chassis, awesome stereo
Cons: Need more storage, better lateral seat support, no spare tire
The Bottom Line: Do you need a car like this? Drive one thru your town's main drag or along the beach one sunny day, then you tell me... It's therapy for the soul!

Manly version of Z3

by
May 18, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great handling, pick-up and power, lots of room
Cons: Seats feel a bit cheap, options are expensive
The Bottom Line: BMW's masculine change to the "cute" Z3 sports a larger body, sufficient power and lots of highway enjoyment. Price and options are a bit high, though.

The Z3 was a little too cute. They looked sweet when they came out, but nowadays they're mostly driven by women. This is BMW's answer to that: Strong curves, larger size, more power. I bought mine with the sport package, though I'd be lying ... read more

Z4 The AMERICAN Car in Germany

by
Apr 22, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Itīs Bad, Itīs Fast and it MAKES you SMILE!
Cons: A few sharp edges too many, but at 250Kmh on the Autobahn? Who Cares!
The Bottom Line: Drive one, It has what I call the Grin Factor. Get in accelerate and SMILE(It takes a few hours for the Grin to go away).

I love the side Profile of the Z4, with its Modernized 70s Vette look. The Rear is all Maseratti Spyder. The front? oh well we canīt have everything be perfect. The Body is Rock solid, I drive mine on side roads daily and on the Autobahn every weekend. I ... read more

Z4 Showing Up The Z3

by
Apr 22, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: The new Z4 BMW combines both safety and style, while being reasonably priced.
Cons: The Z4 is heavier than the previous Z3 and could use alittle more hore power.
The Bottom Line: This car is what we have been waiting for, it combines style, safety, speed, and affordability all in one.

Just imagine yourself in a new 2003 BMW Z4. This is not to be confused with the Z3 which is ages behind the Z4. The Z4 is not only a car to wow the women with, but a great car for a couple. It combines safety, practicality, and style all in one. The ... read more

Lightyears Ahead of Z3, But Perhaps A Sacrifice in the Fun Factor...

by
Apr 22, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Uncommonly stable, extremely refined and a marked improvement over Z3 in many ways
Cons: Maybe too refined for a roadster- drive by wire vagueness, styling points...
The Bottom Line: Everything the Z3 should have been and more... Though perhaps too much "more" because the fun seems to have gone away. Nevertheless, incredible engineering and refinement- a Real BMW star.

My BMW Z4 test drive started almost be accident- I had brought my X5 in for regular maintainance and my dealer had just happened to have a Z4 with a 6 cylinder and manual transmission -- having asked about it months back, my dealer couldn't resist - he ... read more

Don't buy this POS

by
Mar 24, 2003 - Updated Mar 26, 2005 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Smooth drive and good looks.
Cons: Way too many trips to the dealer for a $40k car. Poorly built.
The Bottom Line: Stay away! At least from the 2003! I hate this car.

I've had this car for about two years now. I hate it. That's right, I hate it. If it had only cost me $20k I might just dislike it, but it didn't. Normally I would add my update to the bottom of the review like I did with my six month’er, but because ... read more

Edgy Z4 isn't your dad's middle age crisis roadster

by
Mar 23, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Amazing cornering, brakes like super-glue, and offers lots top-down thrills.
Cons: Pricey options, poor color choices, and thin, poorly bolstered seats.
The Bottom Line: Its controversial edgy styling catches all types of attention, but what will get your attention is how much fun it is to drive, drive, drive!

Reviewers universally seem obliged to mention, and even trash, the late Z3, which the Z4 replaced. Having owned two Z3s, a 1996 1.9 and a 2000 2.8, I don't feel the need to compare the two. While the the Z4 did supersede the Z3, the two cars only share ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Phenomenal handling, elegant lines and interior appointments.
Cons: Limited color choice.
The Bottom Line: The top roadster available in the US today.

This is the car I've wanted my whole life, and never knew. My first car was an SUV, and the difference in ride is unbelievable. The warranty is more than generous, even considering the high price tag. It really does handle like silk, and looks like ... read more
