Dec 18, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: I don't think that I could sum it up in less than 15 words.
Cons: I can't really find anything that I don't like.
The Bottom Line: Great car for a family. Economical and roomy with great gas mileage! This is a winner!!

This is by far the best car that I have owned. I bought it used a little over a year and a half ago and was concerned about it being a used car. The car looks and drives like a brand new car! I have over 75,000 miles on it and aside from the normal fluid ... read more

Best car I ever owned by far!!!

by
Sep 27, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Looks, gas mileage, power, handling. Not too many amenities, just the right ones! AWESOME CAR!
Cons: I wish the 'Sport Appearance Package' was more widely available, otherwise NONE!
The Bottom Line: I wish Chevy hadn't redesigned the new Impalas, I would love to have one of these for the rest of my life! I LOVE it!

Describing 2003 Chevy Impala LS 4 door 3.8L V-6 I currently have 56,000 miles on my Impala, and have put about 12,000 on myself. I've had it about a year now. I've never EVER regretted purchasing this car! I'm averaging about 29 MPG now that I ... read more

2003 Chevrolet Impala Steering Squeaking

by
Aug 19, 2006 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: The service people are as frustrated as I am about the problem not being fixed.
Cons: No response from dealer to my email.
The Bottom Line: I will sell this car once they fix the squeaking steering problem and buy a Toyota.

I have taken my car to the dealer to fix the squeak in the steering for 16 months. It started in June 2005 when I had a little over 16,000 miles. They have had the car 7 times ranging from 3-8 days. They replaced the rack & pinion twice within one month. ... read more

Good, reliable car

by
Jun 10, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Safety, gas mileage, large plush seating, lots of room
Cons: low-slung, very heavy, can't see your front/rear bumper
The Bottom Line: Very safe and reliable car. If you're in the market for a full-sized sedan, this is the only one to look at.

When my Cherokee got stolen in 2003, I was anything but a happy camper, and certainly not ready to go car shopping, much less for a sensible sedan. But, since Jeep insisted on discontinuing it's most popular car, I had to look for something else. I ... read more

Base Model Impala – I Hate this Car

by
Dec 5, 2005 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Big back seat and trunk
Cons: Poor handling, weak engine, bad transmission and brakes. Terrible gas mileage.
The Bottom Line: Avoid like the plague.

Most people review cars they bought so they obviously like that car at least until things start going wrong. My wife has had this car for the past 3 years as a company car so take this review with a grain of salt - she chose the color, not the car. We ... read more

Minor Problems,But No Big Deal.

by
Sep 6, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Price, Size, and reliability!!!!
Cons: I really can't think of any.
The Bottom Line: I have nothing bad to say about this car. It would be a good buy if you find a used 2003.

We bought this car new in January 2003 as part of the zero interest promotion they were running at the time.To tell you the truth this is the first Chevy product I have ever owned. But I refuse to sell this car because it has been very good to us. ( and ... read more

WOW! Are you SURE this is "only" a Chevy Impala? Feels much more expensive!

by
Aug 12, 2005 - Updated May 21, 2008 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great handling, ride and economy! VERY dependable and roomy.
Cons: A few little quirks common to most GM cars.
The Bottom Line: GREAT bang for the buck! Will probably last 7-10 years with no problems anticipated.

UPDATE MAY 2008 Still own the car; incredible service! 76,000 miles, NO major repairs; it just doesn't break. For a full-size car, gas mileage is fantastic; I get 27-28 MPG on the highway at 65++MPH with the A/C on. The car has been paid for and I ... read more

by
Mar 10, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: 3400 Engine, Standard Features, Style for the $
Cons: Choice of plastic for the interior
The Bottom Line: Buy this car if you want a great family sedan.

My aunt owns a 2003 Chevrolet Impala Base model and she likes it a lot. It came packed with features and it has a very powerful 3400 V6 engine that produces 185 horsepower and 210 lb ft of torque. It has a very powerful almost "suck you into the seat" ... read more

Solid and comfortable

by
Feb 19, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent handling, acceleration, great gas mileage. Very comfortable.
Cons: Limited rear corner visibility. Cupholders a little too far back to reach easily while driving.
The Bottom Line: This car was an incredible value. Great handling, good styling. Lots of luxury in an affordable package.

We purchased this car for my wife to replace a 1995 Mazda 626. We have a GM credit card and they offered us substantial bonus earnings (totaling $2,000) towards a new car if we acted before Labor Day. This could be used on top of any other rebates. ... read more

by
Jan 31, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Got what we paid for & then some. High Consumer Reports safety rating!
Cons: Can't think of any really!
The Bottom Line: Great safety rating, great comfy ride & plenty of room everywhere (even for 6 adults). Good gas mileage & low road noise.

We bought this car mostly due to our GM discount, but what a great purchase! Had it now for 1-year (traded in the 95' Altima which I kept for over 6 yrs I loved it so much) and it's been a great vehicle in many ways. The ride is fantastic, wonderful ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Quiet, very fuel efficient, economical to own and drive
Cons: some controls (cruise and accessory plug)
The Bottom Line: Highly regarded...excellent value.

We investigated numerous sedans for the best price v. performance ratio and concluded that the Impala met the bill. In its base form with the 3.4L engine, the rated mpg is 32 on the highway, and we have steadily seen 34+mpg in over 7000 miles of driving. ... read more

Best car I have ever owned

by
Sep 7, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good family car. Economical & nice ride. Good fuel mileage.
Cons: Spongy suspension, but the basic sedan is not a sports car.
The Bottom Line: Very nice family car. Take a look at it and spec it out the way you really want it.

I have owned a lot of cars dating back to a 69 Pontiac Catalina, and this is the best car I have owned to date. Replaced a 99 Malibu and what an improvement. Took this car on a 2600 plus mile trip across the Plains and through the Rocky Mountains at 12,0 ... read more

Attention Olds / GM Owners - Loaded Impala for less than $20,000

by
May 26, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Very quiet and smooth ride. Roomy interior and like fold-down rear seat
Cons: None noticed.
The Bottom Line: With a little work, you can pick up a great car for around $20,000 out the door.

I like this car a lot but I am going to talk about pricing in this review. I have a 99 Intrigue that I really like but it is approaching 100,000 miles and it will become a "kids" car. I set out with a target price of $20,000 and I was able ... read more

Chevy’s Stab at the Near Luxury Family Sedan; Wrap one up I'll Take It

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Styling, powerful engine, exterior.
Cons: Cheap interior plastic molding
The Bottom Line: Chevrolet has produced an automobile well worth my time and money.

The GM 24 hour test drive. You have to love it when a car company gets so desperate to sell automobiles that it allows you and me to take them out for 24 hours of joy riding and abuse at the hands of its potential customers. Since my spouse and I are ... read more

2003 Chevrolet Impala (Base)

by
Mar 12, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Very pleasing aesthetics, great gas mileage, good comfort, good performance.
Cons: Aftermarket stereo not an easy upgrade.
The Bottom Line: Looks and rides better than the Taurus, better interior than the Grand Prix, and more mechanically sound than the Intrepid.

I chose the base model over the LS mainly because of the dealer inventory. The LS's in my price range had steel wheels/hubcaps and XM Satellite radio, which I did not want. The black base model that I picked has cruise control, front & rear floor mats, ... read more

Pleasantly Surprised

by
Feb 7, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Acceleration with 3.4 motor is acceptable, roomy, huge trunk, great in rain and snow.
Cons: Fuel mileage is ok; rear end styling is a little odd
The Bottom Line: Final word is if you need reliable, roomy transportation and a reasonable price, this is it.

I finally had to give in and buy a dependable family car. I didn't want an SUV because of fuel mileage issues but I wanted front wheel drive and roominess. Checked out the Taurus, Impala and Intrepid. Got the best deal on the Chevy and the dealership ... read more

Pros: My experience, the 2003 Impala gives many years and miles of solid and dependable use.

My 2003 Chevrolet Impala with 120,000 miles is in excellent condition and very solidly built. I purchased it "used" from a Chevrolet dealer with a little more than 4,000 miles on it in mid 2004. I have performed regular maintenance ... read more

Pros: Great gas mileage and super ride.
Cons: The car needs a little better trim on the inside.
Last year I purchased a 2003 Impala to drive back and forth to work, which is 96 mile round trip a day. I am getting older so I needed a car that still had some get up and go and looked nice, but still had all the things to pamper my old frame. Well this ... read more
