This is the Used Ford SUV to Get

by BrianCam
Oct 20 '09

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Refined ride, quieter engine, nicer interior materials than before
Cons: Still feels a little trucky at times
The Bottom Line: A very good looking SUV both inside and out. Look for an Eddie Bauer Edition used because the price will be similar to lesser equipped Expeditions.

The 2003 Ford Expedition has come along way in terms of refinement and civility since its introduction in 1997. While the Expedition was one of only a few choices in full-size SUVs back then, subsequent years have brought a flurry of new trucks. In ...

2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer

May 11 '08 - Updated May 14 '08

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Seats eight, great towing capacity 8,900 lbs, comfortable.
Cons: Engine and electrical problems.
The Bottom Line: Poor quality design, for such and expensive vehicle.

This was a great vehicle under 35,000 miles. By the time 75,000 miles was put on it, a list of problems developed that shouldn't have for a vehicle that expensive and generally so few miles on it. This vehicle has given nothing but headaches ...

Great rig

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Power, safety, visability, room, towing, room, 4x4, comfort, looks, fuel mileage considering size and abilities
Cons: Lack of after market accessories compared to earlier models, struts, access to engine components
The Bottom Line: I would not only recommend this to a friend, I have recommended it to my brother. I am planning on updating to a new Expedition in the next 2 yrs.

I traded in my 2000 Jeep GC limited, because I needed something w/ more room and larger tow capacity. I loved the Jeep, but I'm so much happier. The 5.4 Triton in my opinion is the best engine, period. I have had 5.4 Tritons before and either driven them ...

An OK SUV

by slugger2yanks
Jul 28 '07

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Very comfortable, Power 3rd row, backup sensors.
Cons: Bad Performance, Many problems at low millege, and loud engine.
The Bottom Line: A Yukon XL, Suburban, or Escalade ESV are of much better quality. Stay away from the 2nd generation Expedition!!!

I own an 03 Expedition Eddie Bauer. I have had it for 4 years and it runs average. The ride is smooth but I have had countless problems with brakes, The transmission slips, The air sometimes stops blowing, and it gets up to speed really slowly. Apart ...

Pros: Beautiful styling, Handles the road like a dream, Excellent turning radius, good looking.
Cons: Flaking coating on rims, Stereo doesnt pump like older systems, Back up mirrors faulty
The Bottom Line: Great vehicle if you need space and comfort.

I use to own a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 2 door. This car was fantastic. The only problem I had with that vehicle was a fuel sensor, and it was a pleasure to drive. I am in the art business so i needed a bigger vehicle to haul paintings and bronzes, and ...

BUILT FORD TOUGH???

Dec 28 '04

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: When the Expedition is moving down the road, it look great.
Cons: Pay the ransom money and purchase the extended warranty!
The Bottom Line: If you elect to purchase an Expedition, I strongly suggest that you pay the ransom money and purchase the extended warranty.

I was the first to drive my new company Expedition off of the lot in South Miami. The Expedition was a beautiful Eddie Bauer edition. The trouble started early. At about 12,000 miles I took the car back to the dealership to complain about a grinding ...

Pros: Good power, stability, space, powered folding seats,DVD system
Cons: Still Ford reliability
The Bottom Line: For such long time Ford showed me quality vehicles but low signs of reliability improvements

For a very long time i was a loyal customer at Ford but,I have owned many fords specially Windstars. One thing that i had enough is the reliabilty,i had no problems with my vehicles but i herd lots opf complains even on the 2003 Expedition,Ford makes such ...

2003 Expedition XLT has problems that Ford won’t stand behind

by fordneveragain
Apr 09 '04

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: 0% Financing, Power-Fold Seat option, DVD Entertainment Center option
Cons: Rattling, humming, defective brake systems, poor manufacturing/engineering, egregious customer service.
The Bottom Line: Piece of junk!

This is our second Expedition XLT after being the very satisfied owners of a 2000 Expedition XLT. The 2000 was great – reliable, cheap to maintain, a well-engineered car that’s a good all around value. I believe the 2000 XLT saved my life in April 2003 ...

Profoundly better ride/handling then Tahoe

by lovcom
Aug 04 '03

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: It has the least vibrations, the least lean/roll, and tracks the best.
Cons: Eats gas. The 4.6L is a bit under-powered (the 5.6L upgrade is great).
The Bottom Line: The 2003 Ford Expedition is the very best in its class.

I drove a 4x2 2003 Expedition XLT with 4.6L engine. I just changed jobs so I no longer drive a comp ...

So, so SUV

by dougiefresh101
Jun 16 '03

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Nice heavy trailer towing vehicle. Nice paint job.
Cons: Many blind spots. Front/rear wheels always covered with brake dust, that is hard to remove/corrosive.
The Bottom Line: If you like the big SUV ride and feel then this is your baby.

Really large vehicle. One has to be very aware of the blind spots. It drives and handles like a larg ...

Pros: Split 2nd row seat, flat fold 3rd row

A nice BIG family vehicle

by jtcornett
May 27 '03

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Big, stylish, comfortable, handling, control, conveniences.
Cons: A little underpowered, loves gas. Some people really hate giant SUV's.
The Bottom Line: I know some people buy these vehicles because it they are "in", but me and my stuff need the space...and what a fine space it is.

The main reason I bought the Expedition instead of the Explorer is head room and size. The Explorer does not have adequate headroom for this 6'4" dad. Plus I have a lot of stuff I need to haul around.

My wife and I decided to hop on the...

2003 Great Expeditations - An intense investigation

by codyag
Apr 11 '03

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Standard features, Cost, Handling, and Looks.
Cons: Gas mileage could be a bit better, Entry - exit.
The Bottom Line: Compared to the competition the all new Expedition is the Best Bang for the Buck full size SUV on the market.

I surprised my wife (of 25 years) with a new SUV. She's been driving a Tahoe for 6 years now and we were not too impressed with it. The fact we bought a Ford is a miracle. We were both hardcore GM people. Her father was GM service manager for 20...

Leaves Me Luke Warm...Rather have a Tahoe

by cmiller32
Mar 31 '03

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Space, Dashboard Layout, Seats, Exterior Color
Cons: Handling, Overall size
The Bottom Line: If you like it and can live with it, go for it. But I would rather have a Tahoe/Yukon or Land Cruiser.

My daughter recently took over control of the Family 99 Explorer. Plus I just dumped our van. With this, I decided that maybe my 3 seat explorer wasn't quite as big as I once thought. So, I am shopping for a Full size SUV (I hate mini vans), Besides, I...
