It's Hard to Tell They Updated Until You Drive It

by scmrak scmrak is a Lead on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50
Oct 09 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: cargo area, versatile seating, improved ride and handling
Cons: little bugs, gas mileage, blah styling
The Bottom Line: It's an improvement over the previous model -- but then the competition is working to improve, too.

It's actually relatively rare for me to revisit a vehicle I've driven and reviewed during my stint here at Epinions -- not that I don't wish to, but, well, I'm usually at the mercy of my local Enterprise Rent-A-Car's stock when I wander in. This time...

2003 Ford Expedition: Defending the Indefensible

by mkaresh mkaresh is a Lead on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10
Jul 05 '02 - Updated Jun 23 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Third row comfort, steering and brake feel, visibility, seats fold flat
Cons: Ride sometimes jittery, fuel inefficiency, loud rear blower
The Bottom Line: Makes sense for those who have to comfortably carry a large number of adults over difficult roads. Huge improvements for 2003.

I’m personally not a big fan of large SUVs. They use massive amounts of gasoline—mileage is generally in the low teens—and owing to their nearly three-ton weight and high bumpers constitute a danger to anyone in a smaller vehicle, especially ...

Grazing In A Crowded Field

by jumperless Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500
May 13 '02 - Updated Jun 25 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Standard Features, Better Handling.
Cons: Price, Too-Tame Looks, Old-School Gas Mileage, Not-So-Improved Safety.
The Bottom Line: The newest Ford SUV has improved handling and a new safety system, but also safety holes, below average gas mileage, not so impressive space and run-of-the-mill appearance.

Wednesday night, who goes out on a Wednesday night? There’s this reggae party that happens at one of the beach-front hotels in my area. Kind of a tradition for the locals, but I haven’t been to it since 1995. Well, a bunch of my fiancé’s co-workers...

This is the Used Ford SUV to Get

by BrianCam Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200
Oct 20 '09

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Refined ride, quieter engine, nicer interior materials than before
Cons: Still feels a little trucky at times
The Bottom Line: A very good looking SUV both inside and out. Look for an Eddie Bauer Edition used because the price will be similar to lesser equipped Expeditions.

The 2003 Ford Expedition has come along way in terms of refinement and civility since its introduction in 1997. While the Expedition was one of only a few choices in full-size SUVs back then, subsequent years have brought a flurry of new trucks. In ...

2003 Great Expeditations - An intense investigation

by codyag
Apr 11 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Standard features, Cost, Handling, and Looks.
Cons: Gas mileage could be a bit better, Entry - exit.
The Bottom Line: Compared to the competition the all new Expedition is the Best Bang for the Buck full size SUV on the market.

I surprised my wife (of 25 years) with a new SUV. She's been driving a Tahoe for 6 years now and we were not too impressed with it. The fact we bought a Ford is a miracle. We were both hardcore GM people. Her father was GM service manager for 20...

Pros: When the Expedition is moving down the road, it look great.
Cons: Pay the ransom money and purchase the extended warranty!
The Bottom Line: If you elect to purchase an Expedition, I strongly suggest that you pay the ransom money and purchase the extended warranty.

I was the first to drive my new company Expedition off of the lot in South Miami. The Expedition was a beautiful Eddie Bauer edition. The trouble started early. At about 12,000 miles I took the car back to the dealership to complain about a grinding ...

Profoundly better ride/handling then Tahoe

by lovcom
Aug 04 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: It has the least vibrations, the least lean/roll, and tracks the best.
Cons: Eats gas. The 4.6L is a bit under-powered (the 5.6L upgrade is great).
The Bottom Line: The 2003 Ford Expedition is the very best in its class.

I drove a 4x2 2003 Expedition XLT with 4.6L engine. I just changed jobs so I no longer drive a comp ...

2003 Expedition XLT has problems that Ford won’t stand behind

by fordneveragain
Apr 09 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: 0% Financing, Power-Fold Seat option, DVD Entertainment Center option
Cons: Rattling, humming, defective brake systems, poor manufacturing/engineering, egregious customer service.
The Bottom Line: Piece of junk!

This is our second Expedition XLT after being the very satisfied owners of a 2000 Expedition XLT. The 2000 was great – reliable, cheap to maintain, a well-engineered car that’s a good all around value. I believe the 2000 XLT saved my life in April 2003 ...

Took Two 2003 Expeditions -To get a Good One!

by DOUBLENET
Feb 17 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Safety, Comfort, Room, Style
Cons: Gas Mileage - Gas Mileage - Gas Mileage
The Bottom Line: Buy it, enjoy it, know when it was built and most of all make sure you have a good dealer behind you.

The new 2003 Expedition is great; that is once I got to the second one I bought!

I was involved in an accident on Christmas Eve that "totaled" my 1998 Chevy Blazer. So I was concerned about my survival in another collision. Big was better,...

So Far So good

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Quiet and solid ride, roomy, full of conveniences
Cons: Gas guzzler
The Bottom Line: If you want a good quality, roomy, well equipped and well priced SUV, I think it would be hard to beat the 2003 Expedition.

Let me first preface my thoughts by assuring you that I do not work for any car manufacturer.

After considering the Acura MDX, Chevy Tahoe and Toyota Sequoia, I went with the 2003 Eddie Bauer 4x2 5.4L Expedition.

I must admit...

Don't listen to anyone about this until you drive it!!

by twalcott
Jun 19 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Totally Redesigned from the ground up. Third Row seat greatly improved. Price a BIG PLUS!!
Cons: Gas Mileage still lacks, colors are limited in Eddie Bauer
The Bottom Line: You can't beat this for Space, Power, Versatility and Comfort. No other Large SUV comes close.

After reading the review basically bashing this ride, I had to write one of my own. I drove a 1999 Eddie Bauer with the 5.4L engine for the last 3 years, and let me tell you, a 100% change for the better in the new 2003. I've driven the '03 for about...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Split 2nd row seat, flat fold 3rd row

The Bottom Line: Buy it and enjoy all of the great features for thousands less than a comparably equipped GM!!

My husband and I went on the dreaded search for the new "family car". We knew that we wanted an SUV, ...

A nice BIG family vehicle

by jtcornett
May 27 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Big, stylish, comfortable, handling, control, conveniences.
Cons: A little underpowered, loves gas. Some people really hate giant SUV's.
The Bottom Line: I know some people buy these vehicles because it they are "in", but me and my stuff need the space...and what a fine space it is.

The main reason I bought the Expedition instead of the Explorer is head room and size. The Explorer does not have adequate headroom for this 6'4" dad. Plus I have a lot of stuff I need to haul around.

My wife and I decided to hop on the...

Leaves Me Luke Warm...Rather have a Tahoe

by cmiller32
Mar 31 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Space, Dashboard Layout, Seats, Exterior Color
Cons: Handling, Overall size
The Bottom Line: If you like it and can live with it, go for it. But I would rather have a Tahoe/Yukon or Land Cruiser.

My daughter recently took over control of the Family 99 Explorer. Plus I just dumped our van. With this, I decided that maybe my 3 seat explorer wasn't quite as big as I once thought. So, I am shopping for a Full size SUV (I hate mini vans), Besides, I...

Rattle, Rattle, Rattle

Aug 15 '02 - Updated Feb 25 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: IRS, Flat Fold Seats, Appearance.
Cons: Incessant Rattling.
The Bottom Line: I would not wish this vehicle on my worst enemy! Maybe in a few years they will get the new model right.

After owning a 1999 Expedition XLT for 2 years and being very pleased with it in every aspect, I expected the same from the 2003 Expedition. Exterior looks great, except for being a follower of the new Explorer (but I have nothing against that). I...
