Great All Around Car

by shurman100
Apr 5, 2008 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good interior layout, price, features
Cons: Gas mileage, engine power, reliability, no standard ABS
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car as a daily driver in metro areas.

After driving a couple 4th generation Firebirds for 8 years as a daily driver, I welcomed the opportunity to buy an actual daily driver and leaving the Firebird as weekend car. This made for a "best of both worlds" situation. After some minor body work ... read more

Jan 8, 2008 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: great stereo, ZIPPY, decent gas mileage, great interior, lotta trunk space, tight steering, lovable
Cons: so-so gas mileage, tire wear and tear, wish the armrest were longer, prospective clown car
The Bottom Line: After reading other reviews, it sounds like it could go either way... My car was absolutely perfect for me. Know the history and find a good one.

CHEAP Being of little income or job prospects... the 2003 focus appealed to me because the previous years had been so crappy for the little focus and now Ford was offering some rebates. And 2003 was definitely an improved vehicle. I needed a car that ... read more

The Bottom Line: I somewhat recommend this car

I bought the Ford Focus new, I thought I would review by theme: Exterior: I bought mine black, still looks good. Has a nice Euro look, personally, I find it has aged well, the paint is average. Interior: Weaker than exterior; hard plastics that do ... read more

The Bottom Line: A great little car overall.

You know, I’ve always been a big proponent of buying American cars. Hey, nothing against any other country, of course, I love other countries and drink their beer all the time. But when you come down to it, for a purchase as big as an automobile, I ... read more

Sep 18, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: good gas milage, comfortable
Cons: on the small side, a few things broke
The Bottom Line: Not a bad car, but don't think I would buy it again for my family. Maybe if I was single.

This was the first car my wife and I bought together. We were both in college at the time, so needless to say money was tight. The tight budget is what put us onto the Focus. It was a new car, with 23 miles on it, that I expected to run for a long time ... read more

The Bottom Line: I recommend this car. It is fun to drive and won't hurt your pocket books!

When I first moved to Cleveland 3 years ago, I needed a new car. I've previously driven my parent's Camry, Civic, and Mazda MPV. As this was my first car that I'm buying, my budget was limited to small sized cars. Basically I ended up deciding between ... read more

Apr 14, 2006 - Updated Apr 17, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: It's better than riding a bike or walking when it's raining.
Cons: radio, radio, radio, seats, refinement, radio, looks. Passing and merging takes major planning ahead.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car to someone who has price as the only major concern. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

This review is for a car that I had as a rental car for about a month while my car was in the shop following accident damage. Unfortunately, this is the only class of car that the other driver's insurance company would pay for, so I suffered through it. ... read more

I bought a used 2003 Ford Focus ZTS about a month ago after my 1994 Ford Taurus was finally on it's last leg. I had a great long run with that Taurus, but I must say I am quite impressed with the Focus! Smooth ride, great steering control, and very good ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: fun to drive, quiet ride, quality interior, reliable
Cons: had to replace the factory 6 disc system
The Bottom Line: I'd buy another one in a second

I bought a new 03 Ford Focus SE sedan as a replacement for a 98 VW Beetle that was complete garbage. Honestly, I had heard lots of good things about the Focus, but the major incentive for me was the $3,000 rebate Ford was offering at the time. One ... read more

Cons: Snug fit for driver, no tachometer, no oil pressure gauge
The Bottom Line: I recommend this car for someone who is looking for something reliable to get them around without paying a lot of money. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

I was looking for a car, and actually only bought this car because of the great price. I bought the 2003 Ford Focus SE in January 2004 so it was knocked down in price about $6000, which was great for a college student like me. The only drawback in buying ... read more

Nov 6, 2004 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Good ride, good brakes, good turning. Roomy trunk.
Cons: Only average gas mileage, crowded, badly designed controls.
The Bottom Line: Not bad if you're under 5'9". Miserable for 6 footers, and the controls are just weird.

When Hubby's Neon started acting up and the repair bill was more than the value of the car, we traded it in for a 2003 metallic gold Ford Focus with a beige interior. Very nice looking, but a royal pain of a car. I have not been impressed with this ... read more

Pros: Quiet when running, a smooth ride, and loaded with standard features at a good price.
Cons: Not much passanger room in the back.
The Bottom Line: The 2003 Ford Focus S.E. is a good car if you're not looking for something too pricy or expensive, but still want a good, reliable ride.

Pros: Nice looking, comfortable, excellent handling.
Cons: Gutless, pain in the patooty trunk lip.
The Bottom Line: Fine rental car, ok for a single person, or a couple who do not need to haul much gear to work or on road trips

I recently had to rent a car to carry a bit more stuff than I could get on the back of my bike. Harper Rental, in Hilo, Hawai`i, assigned me a 2003 Ford Focus sedan with 8,365 miles on it. When I rode over to pick it up, and first saw the ... read more

SVT Focus An Entertaining Choice For Enthusiasts

by drive571
Jan 27, 2004 - Updated Nov 15, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Tight, quick steering, surprisingly neutral chassis balance, enthusiastic demeanor.
Cons: high-chair driving position, too-low shifter, acceleration not as fast as some like-priced rivals.
The Bottom Line: With an improved reliability record, the eager and entertaining SVT has become a good choice in the sport-hatchback crowd, especially for enthusiasts.

My Experience I test-drove a Ford SVT Focus 5-door at a local dealership. My test drive lasted about half an hour, and covered city streets, winding secondary roads, and the freeway. Performance If you're going by the numbers, the ... read more

Cons: gas mileage just a little more umph in the engine boring dash
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for something that will keep a smile on your face and not kill your wallet, then get it.

I have to admit, I have always been a Mustang guy. I like the way they look, the way they drive etc. But, that said the six-cylinder mustang does not excite me for the price. I took a test drive in a pitch black 2003 SVT ZX5 Focus and could not wipe the ... read more

Excellent Small Car Let Down By Poor Reliability Record

by drive571
Jan 8, 2004 - Updated Nov 15, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Roomy interior, surefooted handling, firm steering, smooth and comfortable ride.
Cons: Poor reliability, weak acceleration, mushy shifter, some low-quality plastics inside.
The Bottom Line: Such a tough call--a great little car with a dismal repair record. The Focus gets three stars for driving so well, but it's probably best to stick to more-reliable rivals.

My Experience I test-drove a 2003 Focus LX sedan at a local dealership. My test drive lasted about half an hour, and consisted of winding secondary roads and the freeway. Performance The Focus has many strengths, but ... read more
