Pros: Excellent Fuel Economy, Standard equipment, CVT automatic transmission. Cons: Price, Some quality control quirks, Acceleration, Cheap looking alloy rims. The Bottom Line: Because of the stingy warranty, price, rear drum brake set-up, and acceleration, this car loses some stars, but is recommended.
Hybrid technology is not new by any means, I believe Detroit even had such cars in the 50s that had never made it into production. If this is true, I'm almost 100% positive they would have only dreamed of driving as well as the new Civic ...

Pros: Refined feel, drives much like a conventional car Cons: Slow, low handling limits, must adapt driving style to fully benefit The Bottom Line: A much better car than the Prius, the Civic Hybrid makes me wonder why Toyota went through so much trouble.
Purely electric cars have not worked. They must be recharged too often, and recharging takes too long. The battery packs are so large and heavy that they severely harm the performance and functionality of the vehicle. For these reasons, auto makers ...

Pros: Low fuel consumption, low noise, ample legroom, base model fully equipped Cons: Moderate acceleration at high speeds The Bottom Line: Probably the best compact car for the fuel conscious. Even better than a regular Honda Civic in terms of comfort and quiet
Even though I had been interested in Hybrid cars for some time, I passed on the Honda Insight and the Toyota Prius since the Insight was only a 2 seater and Prius looked really weird and was kind of small.
When the Honda Civic Hybrid came out,...

Pros: CVT is awesome. Car handles good. A/C is powerful. A nice car, overall. Cons: Software glitches abound. Strange features. Loud rattle in dash. disappointing mileage. The Bottom Line: A nice car wrapped around some confused computers. Not as weird as the Prius. If bugs can be fixed it would be an excellent car.
I have owned numerous cars, including 3 Toyotas. I have always wanted to own a Honda, but never seemed to get around to buying one until the Hybrid came along. Being a renewable energy fan and watching gas prices skyrocket, I decided to get the Civic ...

Pros: Drives well, good rotation angle; decent pickup and mileage (see details) Cons: Lower than mfgr mileage; seats suck and cup holder incorrectly placed The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a good commuter car go for it. Much better than Corolla, Protege, Sentra, Sonata or Kia. Not a family car (prefer Accord or Camry).
If you do not like in Northern Virginia this may not be a big deal for you - but in NoVA the hybrid is allowed on all Interstates where there is HOV2/3 (High Occupancy Vehicle) limits on minimum number of passengers. The hybrid is a greater commuter ...

Pros: Comfortable, above-average mileage, conservative styling Cons: Slower than molasses, cramped in rear, steep price The Bottom Line: The Honda Civic will appeal to anyone looking for a cheap-to-own, environmentally-friendly car.
All this talk of a hybrid Civic intrigued me. From a technological standpoint, hybrid gas/electric ...

Pros: Relatively roomy, Honda reputation, Strong engine Cons: Disappointing overall quality, Disappointing fuel economy, Road noise The Bottom Line: Its still a pretty good car overall, but I would definately recommend a close comparison with a Toyota before you buy one. Personally, I would not buy one again.
First of all, what I have: 2003 Honda Civic LX 4dr 1.7L engine Manual Transmission I purchased the car in 2003 with 3500 miles on it (was a demonstrator car or something). Since then I have put nearly 80,000 miles on it and am about to sell it ...

Pros: Gas Mileage, Gas Mileage, Gas Mileage.... And the sported up the interior. Cons: Some workmanship detail issues, inconsistent gas mileage. The Bottom Line: Great if you want to increase gas mileage and for tooling around town. Also good for road trips.
My wife and I were gas guzzlers. In the summer of 2003 our gas bill was consistently north of $200/month, topping out at $300 one month. She drove what some people call the yuppies mini-van (1998 Nissan Pathfinder) @ 15MPG, and I drove (and still do) ...

Pros: Comfortable, efficient, reliable, quiet, good financial choice(for a new car). Cons: Trivial interior trim rattling, questionable environmental value. The Bottom Line: If I were buying new I would seriously consider the Civic Hybrid and the Prius. But I would question that hybrids have a lesser environmental impact than some conventional models.
This is my first (and last) new car, it now has 30k miles. We live in upstate NY so most of my experience with this car is in winter conditions. I'm an engineer in linear systems. Cost: $20k minus approx. 3.5k in tax refunds = $16.5k I'm an avid ...

Pros: Fantastic fuel consumption and a Zen driving experience. Cons: Quirks in IMA at low temperatures (less than -20C) and rear defrost button position. The Bottom Line: Buy one and save the planet! ;-) If you live in cooler climates with serious temperature drops, be prepared for the quirks.
We've had our Hybrid for just over half a year now and are definitely enjoying it. Many other reviewers have covered the bases already, so there's no need for me to rehash what's been written; I love this car just as much. With this in mind, I'll...

Pros: Saves gasoline and money (less CO2) Good standard equipment. AutoStop feature never fails to impress. Cons: Lack of sunroof, no folding back seats. Not a big deal though. The Bottom Line: Has all the reliability and craftsmanship that one expects in a Honda, and it gets 40-50 miles per gallon! Continues to surprise after several months of owning.
My 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid
I have owned my Honda Civic Hybrid for over six months now and it now has 10000 miles on the clock. I bought this car as a replacement for a much loved 1989 SAAB 9000 Turbo. I have been extremely...

Pros: Hybrid technology, clean and quiet ride Cons: Low mass-market appeal or head turning quotient, few trim choices The Bottom Line: All anyone needs for urban commutes. Think of all the gas you'll save if you only drive your Porsche on weekends.
First of all, there is no reason that 40% of the cars on the road couldn't be built like this. Blame OPEC and the hopelessly apathetic alternative-fuel vehicle divisions of the domestic auto makers. I'm no tree hugger, but for daily driving, anything...

Pros: It's a Honda, 48 mpg in town:-) Cons: The price is high. The Bottom Line: Buy this car, now. I'm waiting. Go.
Okay, so maybe you won't save the planet, but you are definitly slowing the damage. For those of you who are not aware, the Civic Hybrid is a gasoline/electric car which gets 48 mpg (miles per gallon) in town (higher for the standard). That's right IN...

Pros: Gas mileage, clever/refined design, feels like a regular car, very nice on freeway. Cons: Road noise, small arm rest, radio reception. The Bottom Line: If you care about gas mileage, this is a great choice. If you think this is some sort of great sacrifice, it's not. It's barely even a compromise.
My previous car was an 2000 Audi A6 2.7T, 250 Hp twin turbo, 0-60 in 6.0 seconds. Before that was 1998 Passat 1.8T. Before that a 1997 VW Jetta VR6. Before that was a 1988 Acura Integra. I loved the Acura and I have been searching in vain for ...

Pros: A re-definition of driving fun and the satisfaction of helping the common good. Cons: Just OK stereo and A/C. Price premium. The Bottom Line: If you are at all tempted after reading about it, buy it. You won't be sorry.
Read bobhilt's review- it is excellent and informative. I just picked up a 5 speed hybrid and am very pleased with it. I did not research this car- it was an almost-impulse buy. We researched a lot of other less expensive cars for a new car for my wife...
