What do you expect? It's still a Civic.

by Nightshade_01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfortable, above-average mileage, conservative styling
Cons: Slower than molasses, cramped in rear, steep price
The Bottom Line: The Honda Civic will appeal to anyone looking for a cheap-to-own, environmentally-friendly car.

All this talk of a hybrid Civic intrigued me. From a technological standpoint, hybrid gas/electric ...

**Civic Hybrid.. is it worth it?

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good Quality from a notable company!
Cons: Very pricey and "lack luster"
The Bottom Line: Shop before you buy, nice car....... lots of competition!

The brand new civic, or should we say the civic with the new engine and technology offers pleasant gas mileage yet doesnt really offer very much new. Granted, it delivers brand new technology, but it lacks anything new and exciting in the design to follow...

Economical and Sporty

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great handling, minimal gas consumption, durable, roomy.
Cons: Minor annoying problems common in the line. Would recommend purchasing extended warranty.
The Bottom Line: Definitely recommended if you want an economy car that still has ample room and handles well.

We bought this car brand new and haven't looked back since. It's a nice, stylish sedan that you don't mind taking other people out in and it also has a sporty feel to it and accelerates quickly when you need it to. It's great on gas, which has been ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great gas mileage, attracts attention, great resale value!
Cons: Not a pretty car, sometimes sluggish acceleration
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car to singles or small families who are cost and environmentally conscious.

I settled on the Civic Hybrid because of the fuel economy and the reputation Honda has for making cars with great resale values. Since I bought mine in 2003 I have totally fallen in love with it. It is a "compact" car but my six month old daughter's ...

From SUV to ULEV - Gas Guzzlers No More - Car Seat Info Here

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Gas Mileage, Gas Mileage, Gas Mileage.... And the sported up the interior.
Cons: Some workmanship detail issues, inconsistent gas mileage.
The Bottom Line: Great if you want to increase gas mileage and for tooling around town. Also good for road trips.

My wife and I were gas guzzlers. In the summer of 2003 our gas bill was consistently north of $200/month, topping out at $300 one month. She drove what some people call the yuppies mini-van (1998 Nissan Pathfinder) @ 15MPG, and I drove (and still do) ...

Just Good

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Relatively roomy, Honda reputation, Strong engine
Cons: Disappointing overall quality, Disappointing fuel economy, Road noise
The Bottom Line: Its still a pretty good car overall, but I would definately recommend a close comparison with a Toyota before you buy one. Personally, I would not buy one again.

First of all, what I have: 2003 Honda Civic LX 4dr 1.7L engine Manual Transmission I purchased the car in 2003 with 3500 miles on it (was a demonstrator car or something). Since then I have put nearly 80,000 miles on it and am about to sell it ...

Where's the mileage?

by adamrw
Jan 25 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: The car is quiet, well-built, looks and drives like a 'normal' car, etc.
Cons: We are NOT getting anything close to the mileage we expected.
The Bottom Line: Without the expected mpg it's too expensive for what you get. A standard Civic or other comparable compact should get similar mileage for much less money.

We got our Hybrid in October--and paid a considerable premium because it was scarce, especially the manual transmission model we wanted. The car has lived up to expectations for quality, handling, appearance, roominess, etc. It looks and drives like a...

Are hybrids overrated? hmmm..

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent Fuel Economy, Standard equipment, CVT automatic transmission.
Cons: Price, Some quality control quirks, Acceleration, Cheap looking alloy rims.
The Bottom Line: Because of the stingy warranty, price, rear drum brake set-up, and acceleration, this car loses some stars, but is recommended.

Hybrid technology is not new by any means, I believe Detroit even had such cars in the 50s that had never made it into production. If this is true, I'm almost 100% positive they would have only dreamed of driving as well as the new Civic ...

The HOV Buster !!

by sg2004
Dec 12 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Drives well, good rotation angle; decent pickup and mileage (see details)
Cons: Lower than mfgr mileage; seats suck and cup holder incorrectly placed
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a good commuter car go for it. Much better than Corolla, Protege, Sentra, Sonata or Kia. Not a family car (prefer Accord or Camry).

If you do not like in Northern Virginia this may not be a big deal for you - but in NoVA the hybrid is allowed on all Interstates where there is HOV2/3 (High Occupancy Vehicle) limits on minimum number of passengers. The hybrid is a greater commuter ...

MUST HEAR.........

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: sleek, new technology
Cons: akward drive, doesnt feel like normal car, bad handling
The Bottom Line: For what you save in gas you give up in speed and handling.

My girl friend bought one of these not too long ago and I drive it quite often as you could say. I can not help but notice the drastic change in the way I had to drive this car. It is very slow to speed up and just does not handle well at all. My girl...

Traded in before warranty expiration

by coventry9
Mar 10 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: 48 mpg in city driving.
Cons: Poor body design, various problems, unfixable dashboard rattle, just another subcompact.
The Bottom Line: If you want hybrid technology don't settle for a small, uncomfortable and noisy car as we did with this one. The new Prius is a world of difference.

We traded this car in on a 2005 Prius while it still had some warranty miles on it. Broken motor mount at 23,000 miles, computer problems, rattle in the dashboard that was maddening and unfixable (there is service memo on this problem to Honda shops but ...

Not impressed

by prosser51
Jan 03 '03 - Updated Feb 12 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Looks and fuel mileage are the same as the regular civic
Cons: Poor fuel economy, over priced
The Bottom Line: Wait until the technology is ready. You will be over paying for a car that has fewer options then the regular civic and the same or less fuel economy.

Although the car cost about $4000 more then the regular civic, the poor fuel economy really detours from anything positive. The first few tanks of fuel gave me 36-37 mpg. Not the 47-52 on the EPA sticker. The car has the CVT transmission, 6000 miles and...

2003 Honda Civic Hybrid EX

by mpalinski
Aug 06 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Got a great price on it.
Cons: Mine went on fire two weeks after we bought it. Honda failed to back it.
The Bottom Line: Beware. How much pursuit can I give this? I would like to know if anyone else has had any similar experiences or knows anyone who has.

We bought a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid EX last November. Last day of the month and the dealership l ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Save big time on gas.
Cons: Lose some room in the trunk for the cells.
We bought this car to be used as a commuter car in LA. I knew we would save money on gas but I was surprised at just how much.

It runs well and we have had absolutely no problems with it in the two years we've had it.
