Pros: warranty, price, all the options Cons: very poor quality. eats tires and brakes. paint job The Bottom Line: If you like going to the dealer & want a cheap car, then this car is up your alley. If not buy anything else. You get what you pay 4
This is my 39th car. I bought it new in 2003 and still have it (not for long) in 2008. I has been at the dealer more than in my driveway. New tires once a year. I've tried different brands and get the same result. yes it gets alignment twice a year. ... read more

Pros: Transmission, Engine, the doors are still attached Cons: Ride quality, fuel consumption in its class, and styling(?) The Bottom Line: Buy this car to support an improving car company as will be proven when you drive this. Just be prepared for ridicule.
So yes, I have purchased myself a 2003 Hyundai Elantra in replacement for my not so excellent 1997 Honda Accord. Shopping was difficult especially because my main objective was to buy a Mazda Protege 5 but price didn't allow, so this was the next best ... read more

Pros: Hatchback utility, size, performance, price, long warranty Cons: Trim pieces need to be more durable, early timing belt & brake rotor issues The Bottom Line: Own one and it'll be a reliable and good work horse for you!
Going on nearly 3-years and 60k miles I've been very pleased with my 2003 Hyundai Elantra GT. With regards to reliability, performance, and comfort it has performed at or beyond my expectation. The Elantra GT is rather roomy for its size, ... read more

Pros: Dependable, comfortable, good mpg, low maintenance Cons: Halogen bulbs hard to change, bolt-on air filter and battery cover The Bottom Line: Honda and Toyota quality, with better features, at a lower price and better warranty(even if purchased used)
I drive for a courier service as an independent contractor and needed a dependable, economical, comfortable car that could last about 150-200,000 miles to replace my 1998 Sentra which was dying a slow death with only 120,000 on it. Consumer reports rated ... read more

Pros: Price and Features, Roomy, Quiet, Stereo Sound. Cons: Some cheap-feeling details. The Bottom Line: A stylish bargain with very few rough edges.
It looks like a $18,000 car and feels like a $16,000 car, but costs about $12,000.
Bad:
Small children could probably tear the volume knob off the stereo easily, it feels cheap. The center armrest storage space is about one inch deep. I ... read more

Pros: Price, Roomy, Warranty Cons: Interior is poor quality The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car to someone who wants a reliable car but does not really care about the fancy stuff. This would be a good first car.
I really not a good person to write about this because I don't really pay attention to the "body" of a car. I do know that I hit my mailbox doing like 1 mile an hour and it put a big ding in my bumper. This is the second Elantra that we own. The other ... read more

Pros: If you can not afford anything else the price is good. Cons: Put a car seat in the back and you have limited space for others. The Bottom Line: Like I said before we wished the car would not be fixable from my accident, and just eat the rest of what we owe on it. Never buy this car.
Ok, I can say that when I first got my car I was happy despite that fact that people laughed at me, but hey it was all that my husband and I could afford at the time. I guess things started going down hill when the A/C was not cooling as cold as it ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes
Pros: A complete list of standard features found on cars thousands more. Great fun to drive. Cons: Trunk lid opens just far enough to smack my forehead!
The Bottom Line: No car, even at MSRP, comes fully-equipped like the Elantra GT. Mated to a 5-speed, it accelerates, corners, and stops like a true sports sedan. An exceptional value.
I was looking for a small sports sedan under $20,000 that would be fun to drive, well-equipped, economical and feature an ample backseat for grandchildren and others. Before buying my Elantra GT sedan, I test-drove at least a dozen other cars in that ... read more

Pros: Thoughtful and durable interior Cons: Handling
Weak clutch
Scary brakes
Excessive tire wear
Incompetent and Worthless Dealers The Bottom Line: I don't know what's wrong with the other reviewers. This thing is a turd. I feel stupid for buying it. Expect to be laughed at.
I want to like the car. The engine makes adequate power. The interior has proven useful and durable. Great warranty (when you can get the dealer to honor it) which will come in very handy (not a good thing). The handling is quirky but barely ... read more

Pros: Put together nicely, quality feel. The absolute champ of bang for your buck.
Cons: Steering is a bit vague, engine feels a bit sluggish at times.
The Bottom Line: No compromises, it simply works. Reliability is never an issue. Anything can happen, but so far it hasn't.
We've had our elantra for just over a year now, and it has held together rather nicely. They really did a good job with the interior furnishings. the gauges are all very clearly marked as well as the secondary controls. The heating and a/c controls are ... read more

Pros: Quietness, smooth ride, roomy interior, high-quality feel, and comfortable front seats, warranty. Cons: Poor offset crash result, ABS hard to find, handling, rear speakers, depreciation. The Bottom Line: Although it didn’t beat the VW Jetta or Honda Civic, the Elantra topped Mazda's Protégé, Nissan's Sentra and Toyota's Corolla. I don’t recommend it due to its poor offset crash.
