Pros: Engine power, front seat room, trunk space...distinct styling? Cons: Proportions, driving position, weird steering, poor rear seat, interior materials The Bottom Line: The styling is distinctive and the chassis is pretty good, but the ION has too many faults to recommend. Many alternatives are better and cost less.
When GM realized that many import car owners simply would not buy a Chevrolet, it created a new, largely self-contained subsidiary to design, manufacture, and market cars in a whole new way. This new company, Saturn, introduced its first car, a small ...

Pros: Price, uniqueness, power Cons: Gas mileage not great compared to others in class, some cheap materials The Bottom Line: It’s a very competitively priced sub-compact that offers a lot of space, unique, customizable looks, decent power and fun.
Its a challenge today to make a unique, inexpensive sub-compact that will appeal to many ages and compete with the foreign models in quality and price. GM has not had a new sub-compact out in quite awhile, the Cavalier/Sunfire duo being 8 years old...

Pros: Class-leading features, power, refinement Cons: styling will not appeal to everyone. The Bottom Line: After driving everything in this class, the ION stood head, if not shoulders, above the pack.
I'm not one to go around and test-drive dozens of cars, but I did so over the last few months because I was finally in the market.
I'm young, male, and recently done with college. I'm driving a car nearly as old as I am. Time for a...

Pros: The Saturn uniqueness, great looks, safe, super reliable Cons: Visibility could be better especially with the 6 speaker system The Bottom Line: This is really a great practical car. Nice looks, good mileage, reliable, safe and quite a bit of fun thrown in to make it all come together.
After 9 years and 100,000+ miles it was time to give up my old Saturn SL. I had seen the ION on the weird commercials and knew I wanted another Saturn so I went back to the same dealership I had bought the first from. There was a Black ION 3 sitting in ...

Pros: Terrific engine and highway ride Cons: Looks, interior materials, vague low-speed steering The Bottom Line: In the end, it is average, though in practice, the quirky Ion is anything but.
Earlier in the week I reviewed the Mazda Protégé LX, following a 24 hour test drive. In that review, I mentioned taking another car on a 24 hour test drive the previous day, and that car was a Saturn Ion 1 with air conditioning and compact disc player. ...

Pros: Innovative Design, Continuously Variable Transmission Cons: Handling of Service Issues, Construction is a little cheap. The Bottom Line: Despite some shortcomings with the little things (CD Player, headliner, Dome Lamp, service), you won't be disappointed by the quality of the parts that really matter (variable transmission, etc.)
I have a 2003 Saturn Ion Quad Coupe. Quad Coupe = 4 Door Coupe? (Isn't that an oxymoron ...

Pros: Looks nice and modern, like a German or Japanese car. Cons: Serious transmission problem and too many minor flaws. The Bottom Line: Don't buy this car. It has a serious transmission problem that they don't know how to fix. It has many minor problems. NOT RELIABLE
I bought a Saturn Ion 3 10 months ago. The day I drove off the lot, I noticed that the parking break had a small tear in the cover. I called the dealer and he said they would look at it. I haven't had time to persue this, as my car has been in the shop ...

Pros: Looks, Interesting dash board, ...um..? Cons: Ride, Fit and Finish, Noises The Bottom Line: Buy a bicycle
I will not go into detail on this beast. I will just hit the low-lights and move on. I do not own a Saturn ION but my girlfriend does. And since I have the misfortune of riding in it frequently I feel like I can comment on it with a clear conscious. ...

Pros: strong engine, unique styling, upscale options, low cost, great value Cons: center ip may be disliked by some, interior plastics, seat material, wheel choices The Bottom Line: The ION provides anyone with a great car priced very reasonable. Plus saturns excellent customer service and no hassle no haggle pricing. You cant go wrong!
So Saturn has replaced its original S-Series. This may have some Saturn fans upset. But the new ION is a winner. The ION starts at around 11K. This is a great value with a car that beats most baseline engines in its price range.

Pros: Very unique style, strong engine, stylish interior, and comfortable ride. Cons: A lot of interior parts are poorly assembled. difficult to obtain aftermarket parts. The Bottom Line: Overall this vehicle has the reliability of a family sedan, with the style of the concept cars from the future. Look great and save money on gas while doing it.
when my wife went to the dealerships looking to finds a good deal on a car, i didn't expect her to come home with something this good. I am a very big fan of supporting our economy. So the fact that she brought home an American car definitely pleased me. ...

Pros: Inexpensive vehicle, good financing. Saturn's 24 hour roadside assistance is great. Lower insurance payments. Cons: Several unusual problems with that have taken me back to the dealer many times. The Bottom Line: I would probably take a chance on an Ion based on two other people that I know who LOVE their car.
Where do I start? Overall, I'm fairly happy with my Ion. I've always been someone who has bought foreign cars, and this was the only "American" car that I have even considered. I bought my 5-speed 2004 Ion in January mainly because of the great ...

Pros: Stylish, nice lines. Cons: Poorly constructed, sloppy service. The Bottom Line: This is a black eye for Saturn. My previous Saturn was indestructible, but buy an ION and you'll by CRYON.
I have to admit, when buying this car the one thing that really swayed me other than the price, was the styling. When I first saw the ION, I thought...WOW! Well, after owning one for about 6 months, that turned into OW! First off, the vehicle has ...

Pros: Mechanically sound, excellent clutch and handling, a lot of bang for the buck Cons: a lot of the little things fall apart The Bottom Line: I think Saturn has something with this car, but not yet. Wait a few model years to get all the kinks worked out.
When I first bought the Ion, I was blown away by the instrument panel (which is really cool, in my opinion, and allows for a smaller steering wheel which I actually like) and the color panels (an option they don't really push anymore) and so on. Nothing ...

Pros: Price, Value, Suspension, Highway performance. Cons: Interior design The Bottom Line: This car is not a runaway winner in it's class. But when weighing all of the advantages and disadvantages, the ION is strong where it counts.
I have had a manual Ion 1 for about 3 weeks now. It is true that the interior material isn't very good and the seats are quite basic, but it is not UNcomfotable to drive around in this car. I actually really like everything about the dashboard, it is...

Pros: None in light of the cons. Cons: MAJOR ELECTRICAL DEFECT The Bottom Line: Do not purchase this vehicle. It has a serious unresolved and as of yet unreported defect.
I find myself amused, looking at the first line of Saturn's 'Story': "Saturn was created with one simple idea: to put people first." This has been far from my experience.
I purchased a new 2003 ION 2 in early December and it has since been...
