Fast & Fun, But Where Is The Sunroof?

by shoplmart shoplmart is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10
Nov 18 '02 - Updated Jun 08 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent acceleration/performance, AWD, Price.
Cons: Marginal EPA rating, Blase exterior.
The Bottom Line: A fast sedan that is bound to offer loads of excitement for its owner. The Impreza WRX is recommended 100%.

The Subaru Impreza WRX is unquestionably the meanest and fastest accelerating sedan this side of $30,000, but how does it compare to the WRX station wagon I drove earlier this year? While there are not many...

Subaru WRX: How about a nice kick in the pants?

by puckmugger Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50
May 22 '04 - Updated May 23 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Makes me smile when the turbo kicks in, All Wheel Drive
Cons: Somewhat bland styling, goofy cupholder
The Bottom Line: Good luck beating the WRX in performance, practicality and pure fun in this price range.

I was going to start this review by writing about how I finally bought a car just because I wanted it. Then I thought about that and realized I bought my Porsche 944 just because I wanted it, and my first Acura, and my Celica and . . . well, maybe I ...

My Favorite Car Ever

by cruz3
Apr 26 '05 - Updated Apr 28 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Incredible performance and versatility. Perfect daily driver/rocket.
Cons: Kinda noisy. A little spartan. Premium Gas.
The Bottom Line: The ultimate pocket/rocket daily driver. Cheap to buy and run, easy to drive, and goes like a wayward exocet missile when pushed.

We traded our '99 Integra GS-R (AKA, the most expensive Honda Civic you can buy) for the WRX. We wanted 4 doors, more headroom, and AWD. My wife and I investigated the WRX when they came out in late 2001, but weren't inclined to pay a $4k dealer ...

Fun times with the WRX

by thehappysmith
Oct 07 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Get up and go, great styling, good sound system, AWD
Cons: It's not a ragtop. Also, premium gas and steep insurance.
The Bottom Line: This car is fun to drive and spacious enough for a compact import. If you can handle the incidental costs, it's a definite buy.

I bought this car to replace my beloved 1996 Mustang convertible. It was either something I could play with and rally in (after I've paid for it, that is), or a really snazzy convertible. But since the Saab 9-5 convertible is still a year away and costs ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: fast, Fun, Turbo Charged,
Cons: No way to fold the back seats down. Insurance can be steep
The Bottom Line: Definitely a drivers car. Gives Corvettes a run for their money off the lights, but yet only runs 4cylinders

Every kid wants one, no one under the age of 40 can normally afford one, but yet, we all seem to still have this desire and hope that some day we will get one. No, I’m not talking about a wife, I’m talking about the Subaru Impreza WRX. I have been lucky ...

Impressing, Maybe?

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Lots of standard equipment, economical to drive.
Cons: It is under power and be ready for cramped interior.
The Bottom Line: The best thing about this car is that it is economical car to drive. Aside from that I find very little positive about it.

When the WRX was first released 2 years ago, all I could think about was having one in my garage. D ...

In which I review the full range TS (GX), RX, RS and WRX

by Clive_Conway
Dec 08 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Handling (chuckability!), build, performance in RS and WRX, value
Cons: Seats (if you're medium to large), equipment, interior, economy, value
The Bottom Line: A solid, reliable, well-built car, with great road-holding and handling and tremendous performance in the top models. But there are issues...

There I go doing it again, putting the same word in the Pros and Cons list, that word being 'value' in this case. More on that later...:-)

Lest you're as confused as I am about models in the Impreza range, let me try to clarify:

The...

THE Car

Jun 28 '03 - Updated Jun 29 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Acceleration and AWD and Beautiful, Whimsical Design
Cons: Slow, slothful SUVs always seem to be in my way . . .
The Bottom Line: In Los Angeles you can't wave your hand without hitting a BMW. Get the WRX and blast by the Bimmers on your way to the bank.

I test drove this car about a year ago and fell instantly in love. I then got a GREAT deal on a 200 ...

Impreza 2.5TS is good stuff!

by nickbinette
Dec 07 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Almost all good! Fun to drive.
Cons: Expected more power, a little noisy, sun visors in the way.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car to anyone.

I managed to convince my girlfriend to get the Impreza 2.5TS. She also based her choice on my experience with my 1998 Legacy Outback. She's very happy about it! It is a very neat and fun car to drive. Lots of improvements on features versus mine: ...

Sep 09 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Fast, reliable, safe, all wheel drive, turbo-charged.
Cons: Not very attractive, kind of boring.
The Bottom Line: Fast and versatile. However, it just lacked a lot of refinement that a $40,000 should have.

I am a eighteen year old male. This car should be the embodiment of everything I could ever hope for. Its all wheel drive, its turbocharged- so what's missing? Perhaps it's just me but I found this car to be rather boring. I expected a lot ...

2.5RS -- the WRX you can live with

by strangedayz
Apr 28 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: torque/low-end response/"grunt"; handling; gauges and controls; value vs. WRX
Cons: weight; fuel economy; notchy shifter; cave-like interior; crummy sound system
The Bottom Line: The 2.5RS delivers 95% of the WRX experience with lower purchase and operating costs. If a fun, visceral driving impression and foul weather safety are important, check it out.

Here's the deal. The RS and the WRX are essentially the same car, save for the different engines. The RS cost me about $5000 less. Given that I was going to flog the car 100 miles per day between southern Maine and Boston, I had to seriously ...

2003 WRX Sedan: Nearly 3 Years & 57K Miles Later

by yzer
Aug 25 '05 - Updated Aug 31 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fast, expertly balanced sports car performance in a small, practical, no-frills sedan.
Cons: Tricky first gear. Chick invisible: women won't turn their head to look at a WRX.
The Bottom Line: Best bang for the buck in sports cars. Runs circles around 99% of cars on the road.

The Subaru Impreza WRX and Impreza WRX STi are more than just cars with a compound name. There are lively and very active subcultures associated with this car, and a potential buyer can make a more informed decision about choosing one if the history and ...

Boosted Boxer = Frantic Fun

by shabba2
Dec 16 '03 - Updated Dec 19 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Acceleration, handles quite well, Subaru reliability, looks great, practical.
Cons: Standard wheels are to small, acceleration is addictive, maybe a little too practical.
The Bottom Line: Recommended to anyone wanting a practical car that carves corners going to the store with little Joey in the back. If you don't like this car, you have no pulse.

I fell in love with this car back in 1993 when I first laid eyes on it in Car and Driver. A small blurb described the car and I hoped to one day have one. Fast forward to 2002 and the U.S. is finally privileged enough to get the WRX, albeit not the ...

Get Thee to the Rough Stuff

by allerdoc
Feb 21 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Sticks to a gravel or muddy road like full knobbied off road racer.
Cons: Nice, new car makes you hesitant to drive hard on rough, loose surfaces.
The Bottom Line: I would highly recommend owning a WRX if you enjoy driving hard and fast, especially on unimproved roads. If you're looking just for transportation or luxury, focus on something else.

I just test drove a new WRX sedan accompanied by a totally wacko car salesman who directed me down a curvy, gravel road to a large, fifty acre, muddy field. I am an ex desert racer (motorcycle) with quite a lot of off road experience so you can imagine...
