Pros: Good amount of cargo space Cons: VSC tracking system; Forgettable appearance The Bottom Line: Highlander is too conservative and too lacking in performance features. Skip it, and find a good SUV instead.
First introduced in 2001, the Toyota Highlander is a four- door vehicle built in a design that combines the features of a wagon, mini- van, and SUV into one driving machine. This car has sold well since its inception, easily surpassing manufacturer...

Pros: Smooth, car-like ride and handling. Attractive styling. It's NOT a Minivan. Cons: Moderately expensive. The Bottom Line: In a world that's being over populated by Minivans comes a true winner. Call it a car, call it an SUV. Just DON'T call it a Minivan.
The following is based on a true story, albeit with some embellishments for the sake of entertainmen ...

Pros: Nice overall ride and handling, decent fuel economy, low ground clearance, V6 provides good power Cons: Bland styling, offroading capabilities a little better than a regular sedan, the same low clearance. The Bottom Line: An excellent overall crossover sedan/SUV whose major weaknesses are bland styling, weak offroad capabilities, and price if you add several options.
If you've followed my rare car reviews, I owned a few cars... I had a Ford Explorer from 1995 (I didn't review this), a Mitsubishi Lancer (reviewed... but I sold it), a 2001 Lexus GS300 (reviewed), and another car that I won't mention here (since that car ...

Pros: Good acceleration, low roadnoise, many safety features Cons: Boring. Nothing outstanding about the vehicle whatsoever. The Bottom Line: An "accountants car" - functional, safe, economic and boring. Not for SUv-lovers, but for car lovers who want a SUV look.
The Top Line Being a native Brit, Highlander evokes craggy rock formations, barren windswept Scottish landscape and even Loch Ness – it just does not suit this car/SUV/minivan. Scotland is anything but dull and conservative – this ...

Pros: Quiet, good performance Cons: Seats a little too firm, third row seat not practical The Bottom Line: Good car for the money. I would buy it again.
Background: My family needed a car that we could drive when there was more than 1" of snow on the ground. We have a Honda Odyssey minivan, and were looking for something that could seat 5 in comfort and had a lot of cargo room, but nothing too big ...

Pros: Solid, Quiet, Smooth, Powerful Drive-train. Roomy Comfortable Front/Rear Seating. Perfect Size. Cons: Center Console Layout. Ivory Only Leather Interior. No Power Passenger Seat. The Bottom Line: Highly Recommended. With Highlander, you trade in 'Rugged Off-Road' capability for a luxury car ride, but you keep foul weather and soft road capability.
After 45,000 miles my 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT was a great car, quick, no trouble, and stylish, but it became too small for my family of three.
I wanted a 'Large American Performance Vehicle'. The wife vetoed the Marauder fantasy! The 300M...

Pros: Legendary Toyota quality, Leg Room, Comfortable Cons: Back window "noise" The Bottom Line: Perfect for those who need more room than a car, but without the bulk of a full-sized SUV. And it's supremely comfortable!
One day, about 2 years ago, I was driving to work after taking my son to daycare. I was happy and content with my means of transportation, having driven my Volvo 850 for over a year. While at a stoplight, I glanced over at the attractive SUV next to ...

Pros: Healthy V-6 and AWD. Cons: Less than standard Toyota quality interior. The Bottom Line: Have five people, and driving through snow to go skiing? This is for you. Hauling six adults with luggage? This isn't it.
I'm writing this reviewed based on having driven the vehicle only once, ridden in the front and third row twice, and relative to my '99 RX300. I'm not sure what to make of the 2004 Highlander. Is it a 'bad' minivan, a better than average handling ...

Pros: Quiet, nimble steering control, smooth engine, ideal size in and out. Cons: No front passenger power seat, Low gas Mileage and others see below. The Bottom Line: Buy it if you are a Toyota geek. Otherwise, give a test drive when considering other SUVs... Highlander is worth trying.
The highlander is really a nice SUV... however, I bought my Highlander (Dec 2002) as my second choice because no Acura dealers would give me an acceptable price cut on the MDX and I was too impatient to not wait for Nissan Murano. This review is based on ...

Pros: smooth ride, impeccable build quality, comfortable interior, top-notch reliability, high availability = heavily discounted price Cons: bland handling, mediocre engine power, pricey w/options, tough sell vs. Honda Pilot The Bottom Line: A solid, comfortable, but bland car-based SUV facing stiff competition from Honda (and thus appropriately priced)

Pros: Smooth ride, handling. Pleasant looks. Good Fuel economy for 4 cylinder. Cons: Window noise. Window lock button. New: Rear disk brakes. The Bottom Line: I recommend this vehicle.
For all practical purposes, we should have bought a minivan. However, my wife did not want one, and I really didn't want to drive it either. So, we looked at the Highlander, even though our budget said Honda CRV. We ended up getting the base level 4 ...

Pros: Solid vehicle, nice styling, smooth ride, good gas mileage Cons: Weird noise w/ back windows only rolled down The Bottom Line: Best ride I've seen in an SUV along with solid features makes this worth buying.
I love my Highlander. We got the Limited and it is the most comfortable and smoothest-riding SUV I have been in. The interior is set up well and everything is easy to get to. The in-dash CD changer is a great option I would recommend. The seats are...

Pros: quality, engine, driving quality, good price,I also think that it looks pretty cool. Cons: Gas mileage on the window sticker is exaggerated The Bottom Line: If you are smart, you will get this SUV. I test drove 8 other models and the Toyota came out on top each time.
Originally, I was going to purchase one of these last year for my wife. She wound up getting a Lexus ES 300 instead. I never forgot how nice the test drive was and a year later decided to get one for myself. I'm glad I waited the year because the 2004's ...

Pros: Dependable, solid high speed ride, great for road trips and surpisingly nimble in snowy weather. Cons: Does not look cool, high ticket price, rear windows do not open, hatch slams closed. The Bottom Line: Definitely recommend this SUV that feels near luxury. A very dependable SUV for both daily ride around town and the occassional road trip. Great highway handling.
The 2003 Highlander Limited is a very solid and dependable ride. It can handle highway speeds much better than other SUVs, which makes sense, since it is really more car than truck. Having said that, I am impressed how well it handles slushy snow ...
