Pros: Roomy, good power, good MPG Cons: Transmission, air vents, LOW VALUE The Bottom Line: I would buy but not new. This one does not hold it's value.
I bought my 2004 Explorer new. Having it for 4 years gives me a lot to say about it. I picked the Explorer because I wanted an SUV with a 3rd row and the Explorer was the best priced thing out there that fit those terms. Overall, I haven't been too ... read more

Pros: Dependable, comfortable, would buy again. Cons: Wish the gas tank was on the driver side. The Bottom Line: Would buy again. Perfect for northern Michigan rural road and weather conditions.
My first Ford Explorer was a 2002. I changed jobs to one that was a 38 mile cross country drive, in deer country, and narrow curvy roads. I live in rural north central Michigan. The drive was 50 minutes long on clear dry days and 75+ minutes on snowy, ... read more

Pros: Peppy, good solid ride, great looks Cons: Seat belt retraction is very weak, cruise annunciator too bright. The Bottom Line: I recommend the Ford Explorer to people that do not mind going through the routine of guiding their seat belt back into place every time they exit the vehicle.
I bought this vehicle new in December of 2004 and it has been trouble free for 20,000 miles. It is a very good-looking vehicle and came with a 4.0L SOHC V6 flex fuel engine but I have not had an opportunity to fill it up with E85 Ethanol. The engine is ... read more

Pros: You've heard the expression "you cannot polish a turd", that is what Ford tried. Cons: TRANSMISSION, TRANSMISSION, TRANSMISSION AND FORD WILL NOT COVER ANYTHING. search the internet (Explorer Transmission Issues)
Ford tough is a joke, I have a bicycle tougher that this. Do not buy an explorer, you are in for major headaches with the transmission and yes, FORD will not stand by it. They are aware of the problem and have been from day one. They

Pros: The Ford Explorer Sport Trac is a great looking vechile.I am very pleased with it. Cons: It could get a little better gas mileage.
We got our sport trac a couple of weeks ago. My wife feel in love with it the first time she drove it. We really like the extra room it has. It has enough room for five people to ride comfortably. It rides really well. The 4.0 liter V-6 motor has plenty of

Pros: Looks good, fairly roomy and comfy. Cons: EVERYTHING!!!
I WOULDN'T suggest anyone buying one of these. I bought mine new in February 2004 and have had nothing but trouble ever since. I've had the transmission worked on twice (solenoid). The right front axle has been replaced. My ball joints are bad in the

Pros: Solid feeling, stable, takes road hazards with ease, pulls a big boat no problem Cons: Seat belt retractor is sluggish in cold weather. Annoying battery drain problem under warranty
I have owned 28 Fords. This 2004 XLT is not the best one but definitely in the top 10. It has the V6 and is 2WD. It has a lot of giddyup and pulls my 16' Walleye boat with ease. It has 32000 miles on it now and has been in once for these stupid seat-belt

Pros: Great vantage of road from front seat, not too bad on gas, dependable
Cons: Noisy at 75 MPH, third row seat basically useless.
Bought a used 2004 XLT loaded in March of 2005 with 25K on it. Had a 75 K powertrain warranty, so that enticed me a bit. The vehicle is great. Drove it to New York from Chicago twice in the last year, had no problems. It runs great, rides smooth and

Pros: Engine is great (so far); Couldn't ask for prettier SUV Cons: Looks can be deceiving, form without functionality
I own a 2004 Ford Explorer and I think it is by far the most disappointing Ford vehicle I have ever owned. I have had to replace the transmission (which only had 42,000 miles on it) at my expense of $3000. This was due to the fact that at the factory the
