The Update We've Been Waiting For - Was it Worth the Wait?

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: great new interior, improved handling and ride
Cons: bigger and heavier - why? and why no side airbags? and no five-speed tranny?
The Bottom Line: Ford may have stumbled on their 2004 update to the F-150: limited powertrain choice, still no side airbags, and a body "restyle" borrowed from the F-250. Oops?

You heard it from Coach back in high school. Your golf or tennis pro says it today. You hear the same thing from your kid's martial arts instructor: "You can't reach your full potential without being tested by competition." A case in point: for twenty ...

Pros:

A great ride!! A new body style for 2004.

Cons: Horrible gas mileage!!
The Bottom Line:

This just wasn't for me. If you are want a nice looking truck that rides well and don't care about mileage, get the F150.

I've always had a dream, one that most people take for granted. You see, for whatever reason, I've always managed to own automobiles that had manual transmissions. Since I was 16 (and while I'm not an AARP member, yet), I've just never had the ...

Pros: Runs great. Lots of power. Excellent looking truck. Excellent paint and interior. Very comfortable ride.
Cons: Rear sliding window concern.
The Bottom Line: Highly recommend.

I have a 2004 f150 super crew fx4 truck and have been very happy with it. The only downfall on these trucks is the power rear window. Mine stopped working while still under factory warranty. It turned out to be the cable breaking off the sliding glass. ...

Pros: Smooth ride Good pick up on the highway At over 70k miles with no issues
Cons: Wish I had bought one earlier.
The Bottom Line: I miss my Jeep in the summer but wish I had traided up to this truck years ago. Love all the space

This is my first Ford truck. I had to stepped up from a Jeep Wrangler. Loved the Jeep but just could not fit everything in it anymore. We bought used 04 XLT Crew Cab with 4x2 due to an expanding family and the need for more space. Love the new body ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great power, roomy, room for upgrades, and reliable
Cons: FUEL ECONOMY, 13-15 mpg!
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this truck because it is truly a cutting edge truck and has the styling, reliability, and power to prove it.

I bought my 2004 F-150 new off the lot with only 105 miles on it. When I saw it, just like everyone else, I was in love. I have the big V8 with 4x4 and XLT package. The truck shifts very smooth for a 4 speed transmission and is quiet for a truck. I ...

Pros: Handles greatly, and picks up speed fast. Very comfortable ride for long trips.
Cons: Takes a little while to get heat in the winter time.
The Bottom Line: Great highway truck, and great for short travel trips as well. Very roomy and comfortable to travel in. Ford tough and it lives up to it.

My husband and I own a 2004 Ford F-150 Full Size Pickup Truck. Our truck seats 5 comfortably, but will seat 6. It has 2 airbags in front, and one on each side in the back. The truck handles very nicely, and hugs curves tremendously. My husband says he ...

Pros: Great looking and throaty 4.6L V8
Cons: Skeaky pick-up bed, blew out a spark plug at 63,000 mi.

The Bottom Line: Great truck! Until you blow a spark plug.

I just bought a used black Ford F-150 Style Side with 20's two weeks ago and I love this truck. The 4.6L V8 with the tow package is plenty enough power for the occasional light hauling I do. For serious hauling do yourself a favor and get the 5.3L. I'm ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: I looks good rides good
Cons: Crappy gas mileage, cheap parts, too many costly repairs
The Bottom Line: DO NOT EVER BUY A FORD AUTO. They are poorly made and have costly repairs and get bad gas mileage

I have always driven Fords since I was 16 I am now 37 and I bought a 2004 F150 because I loved the new model. I hit 34,000 miles the rotors went bad which were costly to fix and keep in mind I drive very little I put less than 10,000 a year on it and i ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good looks, ride and room.
Cons: Fit and finish.
The Bottom Line: The imports may be a little more refined, but the price and looks of the F-150 make up for that.

This is my 4th Ford truck, but first F-150. I had three Rangers previously and finally worked my way up to the F-150 Supercrew. I bought it new in DEC 2004 and have logged almost 25k miles. Mine has the 4.6 liter V-8 and gets an average of 17 mpg ...

Pros: Drives well, lots of room, plenty of power to tow,
Cons: Quality of finishing, size of truck for downtown
The Bottom Line: I do recommend this truck as it is a pleasure to drive and performs well.

We purchased an F150 Supercrew to travel as a family and haul everything that comes along with us. As well we use to occasionally tow a boat or utility trailer. I have added a truck bed hard cover and a LineX truck bed liner. It is used for family ...

Pros: Very comfortable and roomy; handles extremely well; looks great; substantial when traveling
Cons: Can't think of any except tight parking spots don't accomodate me for the suicide doors.
The Bottom Line: You can't find a better truck than this one!

My Ford F150 4x4 is wonderful! I have owned it now for four years and have never had any major problems with it. It is very roomy and comfortable, smooth riding and when you need to stop quickly, it does so on a dime! That was the real test when we ...

25k and 25 problems later...
by thekritik

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No
Pros: It was clean looking and comfortable.
Cons: It was in the shop more than on the Road.
Well I had a 2004 f-150 4 door 4X4 it had 5k on it when I got it. When I saw the truck on the lot I was in love, it was sleek and very clean. The first week I had the truck it was great I was really happy “I was proud of my new truck” then like many other things it was to good to be true, after 7k I had to have the transmission repaired. The transfer case went bad at 7500miles so the ford dealership “fixed the transmission 5 times” then they finally replaced it. To my surprise it happened 3 times after that with in 2 months I was told after that the 㤌 f-150’s were having these problems with the transmissions, lets just say I do not own the truck anymore.

I like the truck but its not because of quality

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Really useful and handy for hauling kids and stuff
Cons: Quality wasn't job 1 on this one.
I have a 2004 F150 SuperCrew that I bought new. It now has about 19k miles on it. Although I enjoy the truck and it is very useful for hauling kids and stuff around, it has been in the shop 5 times. And I need to take it in again. Here are the shop visits and reasons: 1)Air Conditioning; apparently not fully charged from factory 2)Rear Differential whining; rebuilt differential 3) Air Conditioning again 4) front suspension vibration and rear differential vibration; replaced rack and pinion and front brake rotors due to service bulletin and replaced clutches in differential due to service bulletin 5) power sliding rear window motor stopped working, replaced window motor. And the rear sliding window is not working again, so I will take it in for its 6th dealer shop visit. But even with all this, I still enjoy having the truck for beach trips, hauling building materials, running around town, etc.

My SporTrac is better then an F150
by jratkins

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Larger Bed, larger engine, wider & longer wheel base, and greater towing capacity
Cons: no luggage rack, no external tie downs, no tauno cover, no bed power port

This is not an easy transition. During a test drive of the F150 King Ranch edition I noticed I loose a few features I have come to rely on with my SporTrac. Am I out of touch or spoiled?
