Pros: Fuel economy, Utility, Price.
Cons: Performance, Interior quality.
The Bottom Line: I definitely prefer the XRS, however if you are looking for just utility and not performance than the XR is worth a test drive.

As the commercials back in the latter part of 2002 suggested, the Toyota Matrix is not the easiest vehicle to categorize. Toyota claims that the Matrix is a CUV (crossover utility vehicle) which offers the convenience of an SUV while at the same time ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fuel economy, cargo space, handling, reliability
Cons: Dash hard to read in bright sunlight, rear seat vibrates sometimes
The Bottom Line: The Matrix is a reliable car that can do everything: good cargo space, handling, fuel economy, and safety ratings. It is a great value for the money.

I purchased my 2004 Toyota Matrix new in late 2003 for about $15,000. I got the basic trim model (not XR or XRS), with the automatic transmission, 3-in-1 stereo, power windows and locks, and all-weather package. A big advantage of the Matrix is the ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Lots of storage areas. Great gas mileage. Good visibility. Ease of operation.
Cons: Low front bumper makes it too easy to hit curbs. Slow defrost.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car, for trouble free fuel efficiency, ease of handling, and comfort.

I bought my new 2004 Toyota Matrix in May of 2004. I was familiar with the car already, because my daughter bought one the year before, and I loved it. First of all, I previously drove a van, which I thought I'd never give up, because of all the room, ...

The Perfect, Big Little Car

by purplecatgirl

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: 30+ mpg, amazing reliability, lots of room for a little car
Cons: noisy on highway, moderately slow acceleration, small trunk
The Bottom Line: I think this is the best small car on the market because it's versatile, has a lot of room, gets great gas mileage, and never breaks down.

I love my Toyota Matrix for 3 main reasons: 1) Awesome fuel efficiency -- 30+ mpg 2) Awesome reliability 3) A lot of space for a little car. Oddly enough, my first experience with this car was riding in the back seat. It's a small car, but the ceiling ...

2004 Toyota Matrix - Electric Windows, Door Handles and Surging

Electric windows rattle, grind and pop. Dealer could not address problem. Eventually the window fell out. Engine surges while stopped at light or in traffic. Dealer could not address problem. The door handles have a "metallic" finish that peels away. Occupants have cut their fingers on the edge of metal/plastic that was coming away. Eventually got worse to where you could see the white plastic handle underneath so I peeled away the remaining sharp edges and caution occupants. Dealer offered to repair at my expense. Contacted the Toyota Customer Service Experience Center and was referred back to a dealer.

Pros: Good mileage...lots of room inside yet easy to park.
Cons: None so far
Great car. Want to say great little car, but it's got so much room inside it doesn't seem right saying little. Easy to zip around town but fold the seats down and there's more than enough room for most trips to Home Depot.

I'm 6'3" and fit quite comfortably in both the front and back seats. Lots of head room.
