UPS services to Canada SUCK
by nikkorkot ,Oct 25 '07
Pros: Clear customs for you
Cons: Rip you off shamelessly
Avoid shipping to Canada with UPS by all means. They charge ridiculous brokerage fee that often amounts to a 50 or even 100 percent of the item's value. Total rip-off and outrageous violation of free trade protocol. How they manage to get away with this I don't know. USPS is a good alternative. Canada Post will pick up delivery in Canada with no brokerage fee. If Canada Customs bother to scrutinize your parcel this will add up to an extra week to the delivery time, and they will charge a Canadian recipient 5 bucks for their services on top of GST and PST.

If you have money to waste... then use UPS
by anthonyyeung ,Oct 07 '06
Pros: Good for people who like to get ripped.
Cons: poor service, hidden fees, sneaky service, overall badness
Otherwise, UPS is the worst possible shipping services one could use. Their brokerage fees are absolutely ridiculous! You'll end up getting charged $50 on a $100 item. Always use USPS to ship, or if you must courier, use FedEx.

UPS just sucks
by bulletsfiats ,Dec 17 '08
Pros: I will have to stretch here!!!
Cons: This one is much easier. Slow. Late. Lost. Broken.
I have several friends that work, or have worked for these folks. One a pilot, and a few drivers, and one or two at UPS stores. They all tell me the same thing. There is a very good reason that they use the color BROWN!!!!

Thiefs!
by episteme ,Dec 18 '08
Pros: I've learned a valuable lesson. Never, EVER, use UPS.
Cons: I'm walking funny.
$15 used videogame (including shipping) - $37 'brokerage fees'

$50 used brake parts (including shipping) - $79 'brokerage fees'

these are just the latest thefts from UPS - many many other personal experiences, and even more anicdotal from friends and neighbors.

USPS and others have NEVER charged me anywhere NEAR what UPS charges upon delivery. from now on, if an e-store only uses UPS, I'll shop elsewhere.

UPS=Bad Customer Service
by reggie114 ,Jan 11 '09
Pros: Quick, if they can get it to the right place
Cons: Terrible customer service!!!
I have to contact UPS Customer Service or should I say Dis-service about 4 times per week.  UPS has the most unfriendly, uneducated customer service agents I have ever come across.  They make a cell phone companies customer service look great and I believe everyone knows that is BAD.  I have to call UPS customer service because packages are not delivered to the right destination and apparently the agents are looking at the internet tracking only.  They can only give me the same info that I have on my screen.  Are you telling me that with all the technology they claim to have at their disposal, that they can't give me a little more clarity as to what happened to my package?  UPS is absolutely horrible!!  If your package makes it to you and it is in one piece then you should go by a lottery ticket because you are about the luckiest person on the planet.

UPS from the U.S. to Canada - never again
by greyraven8 ,Oct 29 '09
Pros: it's possible you will get things quicker - but the cost is not worth it
Cons: Brokerage fees - designed to make you much broker.
Twice in my life I have ordered things from the states by UPS; both times I got charged outrageous brokerage fees - worth almost as much as or more that the item I ordered.

If a company in the states will only ship UPS, I say look for the product  elsewhere.  I have phoned and emailed companies and individuals that usually only ship by UPS and some of the them will ship by USPS for a little more - go that way.  Once in a while you will get charged taxes and maybe a $5 fee, but not the sky high fee UPS will charge.

UPS is a disaster
by ve6raj ,Feb 11 '09
Pros: Quickest way to waste both time and money.
Cons: Unethical, lying, gouging, cheating...
A week after the package was shipped they attempted a delivery. I wasn't home so they left a notice. I signed the chit and placed the money they wanted in an envelope and taped it to the door. Subsequently the trackiong notice showed that they had attempted delivery but that I didn't have the funds. When I phoned and asked why the driver didn't take the money in the envelope, they were clueless. Subsequent notices in the web tracking notice said that I had refused the package and aon and on.

Use the post office if you can wait a week or so. Beats paying $31.99 to have UPS fool around for two weeks and then threaten to send the package back. If you need it in a hurry then use Fedex or DHL. The stuff shows up at your door without any surprise brokerage charges.

UPS Canada from USA - RIP OFF!!!
by ogrady2 ,May 26 '09
Pros: Online tracking
Cons: Doc Prep Fee is a kick in the guts, nothing else matters.
UPS I see now actually has an online 'rate' schedule for the 'fee' they'll charge you when they show up at your door, it's here;

http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shipping/cost/zones/customs_clearance.html

This is a change from the past when I scoured UPS.com for any mention of this fee.

I have talked to a UPS manager about this 'fee' and let her know I would personally go out of my way to let EVERYBODY I know in my business circles about this RIPOFF. She couldn't care less, "you can't do anything about the fee except pay it"... to which I said I will never give UPS a nickel of my business in the future ever again. "That's your decision".

The post office charges $6,"They have an unfair advantage... ya da ya da", DHL charges $10... my answer.

I don't like to eliminate sellers in the US that ship only via UPS but I've done so and I go out of my way to let these sellers know what UPS is doing to their customers in Canada and that this is why I'm not buying anything from them.

Bottom line... ARROGANT... PATHETIC... and we willingly pay money to them for this treatment? NOT ANYMORE

Terrible service from US to Canada
by shawshank73New Member ,Nov 10 '09
Pros: I can't think of any. Seriously.
Cons: Quality control. Brokerage fees. Customer service. Lack of common sense. No eyeballs.
If you need something from the U.S. fast, DO NOT USE A RETAILER WHO USES UPS.

Three packages from Newegg. All three faced delivery problems.
1st pkg - sent to wrong town and then left behind at sorting facility.
2nd pkg - left behind at sorting facility.
3rd pkg - left behind at sorting facilty.

Three packages in a row and all three mess ups had nothing to do with my location.

Luckily, Newegg has a deal with them, so there are no brokerage fees when you order from the newegg.ca site. Items are still shipped from the U.S. however.

no honest attempt to reach customer
by jsmacclellan ,Jul 03 '09
Pros: Online tracking, and quick access to information about a shipment.
Cons: Very, very poor, inflexible company policies, no true effort to deliver or work with customer.
Horrible, horrible, non responsive service.
My apartment building is a locked building.  UPS may or may not have left a slip on the first 2 attempts at delivery, but I did receive a notice they online posted as "third delivery attempt" although the slip is labeled "2."  This was June 24. I called UPS within 2 hours of the time on that notice, and was told that the shipment was being returned to the shipper. I offered to pick up the shipment at their facility, but they refused; it was now in an air container, they said and we could not receive it.  July 2, returned to shipper, who was not accessible.  Again, contacted UPS, attempting to reconsign, or set up for reshipment, or set to will call, offering to pay all charges; all requests were refused.
UPS said they will treat the shipment as abandoned, and discard. Needless to say, the package was very important to me; a special order, limited edition product, and non replacable.  UPS shows no concern for their customers, and makes no attempt to work with them.  If you care about your merchandise, stay away from this shipper, far, far away.

Pros: Fast delivery
Cons: Brokerage Fees are criminal
UPS arrived today with a package from Florida.. The package declared value was the actual value, not reduced by shipper..

I will never order from a company who ships using UPS again.
by kscrimshaw ,Sep 23 '09
Pros: They've never broken anything.
Cons: Exorbitant hidden charges and horrible customer service.
Twice now I have paid almost as much as I paid for the product itself to the UPS guy holding it hostage at my door to cover their "brokerage fees".
