Pros: Full featured, moderately overclockable, stable within specs, inexpensive Cons: Strange reboots with ATI Video In
When seaching for a motherboard for my AMD Athlon XP 1600 , I first went with the ECS K7S5A ( http://www.epinions.com/content_77749128836 ). For $55, the ECS was an awesome motherboard on the cheap, but you must endure...

Pros: Inexpensive, feature rich and stable. Cons: None here. So far no problems.
I hesitated doing a review of a mother board. There are plenty of better places online to get information about motherboard performance. But I figured I could still be helpful by highlighting some of the features that were really useful for me and my...

This is one of the best MB I have ever used. I run an Athlon XP 2200 and I use the Volcanoe 7 fan with a shim, it runs at about 31 C and no problems with overheating. Great board and lots of benefitial features.

by miked_dt3000 ,Sep 05 '02
An excellent board but unable to reduce the Vcore voltage to 1.65 volts for the XP2200 . Hopefully the XP2200 will auto set the voltage. The board was easy to set up just 2 jumpers. The built in LAn and USB 2.0 mean its pretty well future proof, well at least for a few months. There is an issue with running HDD on the IDE 3 and 4 with WinXP installed as you cannot boot to WIN XP also cd rom over 16x will only run at 16x on the Promise controller. Gigabyte are looking into it. This is my third Gigabyte board and they have always beaten expectations and benchmarks

by makis_dt3000 ,Jan 04 '03
I have recently bought from a second had that MB. I have an Athlon at 800mhz unlocked, so i use 7x133 configuration and with Easytune III i use 143 FSB to get 1000mhz with 5% of cpu voltage. I use also Hercules Geforce2 GTS, and 333DDR from VM CL2.5 but works fine at CL2 even at 143 FSB. Although i have heard many bad opinions about this MB, i have no problem and its more reliable from my previous ASUS a7v133. Propably there was a problem at version 1.0 but version 1.1 its an excellent choice and the box has a sticker about Geforce 4 MX compability.

by shall_dt3000 ,Jun 26 '02
Was unstable and would lock up with XP2000. Tried new RAM, bios settings, finally Windows XP said there was a video card problem. Tried and older GeForce 2 GTS card and it was ok. But this Ultra card works fine with an ABIT and ECS board. This Gigabyte board does not play well with others.

This mobo is great for its price. Very stable and is very fast. I have a Ge4ti4200 card and I have over 100 fps on all games with an AMD Athlon 2100 XP proccessor. I recommend this to anyone who wants a good AMD machine.

I had a SOYO Dragon...
by ajawa_dt3000 ,Aug 21 '02
I had a SOYO Dragon MB before changing to the GA-7VRXP. For some reason, I had several problems with the Dragon. However, this Gigabyte board works like a champ. I can do all that I was unable to do with the SOYO Dragon, except use a V 92 modem. Excellent MB. I am running GeForce 3 video card, 2 hard drives (WD 100gig, IBM 75gig), SB Live! platinum, Toshiba DVD-rom, Plextor CD-RW,AMD 1900 , etc. I am yet to overclock the MB but I am not expecting any problems when I do.

I have built 17 computers....
by jabatheace_dt3000 ,Nov 04 '02
I have built 17 computers. This one blew me a way with the problems it caused. I had 52 freezes the first time it ran XP, it constanly ran hot, the video flipped out and I even got a Matrix the movie trash dump one time. I could not get help from Gigabyte and had to keep buying new parts to make it work. First it was suspected bad memory, then video cards, then power supplies...I had enough parts to build another machine which I did. It was a Soyo Dragon, Wow! what a difference. The Gigabyte people knew they had an electrical problem with this board and they screwed a lot of people out of their money. I ended up putting a 600 watt power supply and it still screwed up. I never got my board back from Gigabyte. I am sure they have had some good products but this was trashed from the begining. I will never touch a Gigabyte product as long as I live.

At this time I have...
by giants4e_dt3000 ,Jul 06 '02
At this time I have built 2 machines with following configurations:
pc - 1: Gigabyte g7vrx MB,athlon xp2100 cpu,GeForce 3 Ti200 video card,Sound Blaster 5.1 digital,Intel Lan card,1gig pc2700 Micron DDR,lite-on dvd,mitsumi 32x cdrw, win xp pro o/s
pc-2: Gigabyte g7vrx MB,athlon 2000xp cpu,smc lan,dlink firewire card,sound blaster 5.1 digital,artec dvd,lite-on 32x cdrw,512m Micron pc2100 DDR,win xp pro o/s
Both machines suck.Neither one will play any games consistantly,or for that matter any dvds. They both crash constantly and the culpit is the GeForce 3 ti video card. It's the same mess that Gigabyte had with their kt266a chipset and GeForce 4 cards.I can't believe that after the GeForce 4 fiasco,Gigabyte would allow this crappy product on the market.I am done using their boards. In comparison, the ECS k7s5a runs like a charm with either of the GeForce cards,at a lower cost no less!Unless you're willing to plunk down $350 or better on GeForce 4 TI4600 card, stay away from this turkey.

by magnumip_dt3000 ,Sep 11 '02
This board 7vrx has been great, Im running a 1.1 GHZ Duron with a Volcano 7 (plenty of room even though I thought there would not be) Geforce 3 ti 200, 512 pc2100 ddr, Sound Blaster live, linksys 10/000 nic and so on. Very stable no big issues yet. I love this board's layout everything is placed where I want them at. Thanks Gibabyte for a low cost high performance board. Oh yeah I love the color blue.
