LaCie PocketDrive 20 GB FireWire 400 (1394a) Hard Drive

Cons: Never worked properly. Buyer beware.

I bought this product from Cancom in Guildford UK.
It has never worked properly since the day I bought it.
It was bought with drivers for Win 98 and they worked, after a fashion but did not support FWire.
The drivers were clearly flakey as intermittently I could see the drive and then not, for no apparent reason, and then suddenly the drive crashed and I lost all the data.

Contact with La Cie support was a disgrace.
They of course refer the user back to the dealer, and the dealer Cancom does not want to know, referring me back to La Cie.

I ended up with a £120 bookend, which has sat on my desk for months. Quite useless.
I upgraded my PC to a WinkXP machine, and erased the drive and tried reformatting it to use afresh under XP. It will not format, comes up with errors and clearly has been faulty since the day I bought it.

My experience is lousy and I shall never buy another La Cie product again. And from other reviews it seems that I am not alone.
