Pros: State of the art, high-capacity, high-performance, Ultra ATA/100 EIDE hard drive. Cons: None for me.
Over the past decade I have owned several Western Digital Caviar drives of various sizes, without issue, so I had no qualms about buying another WD drive. When OfficeMax offered the WD2000JB 200 GB EIDE drive for $49 after rebates, I couldn't resist. ...
Pros: Massive Drive - can handle HOURS of videos or LOTS of backups LONG 3yr warranty Cons: Included Ultra100TX2 Promise controller provided odd OS compatibility. Helps to be expert system builder.
I have used Western Digital drives for years, and have not had many of them fail. So I looked forward to adding this new masterpiece to my fairly spacious system (the problem with big drives is backing them up, even just a "quick" disk to disk backup ...
This is the second time I've bought a Western Digital hard drive, and they continue to let me know that they are the top manufacturer of hard drives. I like to think of Western Digital as the Microsoft of storage.
Pros: 186-GIG True Capacity! 8-MB Cache! Quiet! Fast! Does Not Get Too Hot! Cons: If You Have Old System, May Not Support LBA Mode!

hard drive for the money by eaglekeeper1 ,Dec 31 '04
Pros: Quick and easy to install. 3 year warranty Cons: No cables or software
I purchase the hard drive to add to my computer. I have not encountered any problems with this hard drive. It was easy to install, but buying it from Tigerdirect.com has some problems. I did go to Western Digital website for instructions on how to install the drive. I have read other people having some problems with this drive, it stops working and they lose all their data.
Great Bargain 89.99 after rebate for a 200gb drive thats about 45 cents per gig, thats not even including the fact that its a 7,200 rpm and 8mb cache... Great drive highly recommend, only down side is the fact 1 per household on the rebate... Oh it seems to be an oem drive which means it only includes the drive no screws or cables, but since its a Bare Drive that means that the 3-year warranty applies not the normal 1-year...
I had this hard drive for 2 years. One day at work (while it was in a sturdy External IDE case), the case dropped a very short distance to the floor. After that this drive never worked again and the arm constantly clicks against the middle that holds the drive heads.
Pros: 200 big fat juicy gigabytes, man ! Whaddya think? Cons: they dont grow on trees
After reading these reviews and other articles on this drive I was under the impression that I would have to use a PCI/ATA adapter to access the full capacity of this drive, which exceeds 137 GB.
As it turns out...if you have Windows XP Service Pack 1 or beyond, and a mobo BIOS that supports 48-bit LBA addressing then you dont need this card and can order the drive by itself instead of in the "kit" and save yourself approx. $50.
Got mine delivered to my doorstep for under $130.
As far as how it works... 200 GB will give me some room to work with digital video editing projects. Has been working fine for the last 24 hours it has been running. I'll write back if I have any problems with it.
1,000,000 Hr MTBF is really only 1,000,000sec by ilv2xlr8 ,Oct 02 '04
Pros: 8MB cashe, and huge storage space Cons: unreliable
8MB Cashe, and huge storage space for woking with movies and other media seemed to be plus, and I bought this drive based on other reviews.
The advertised 1,000,000 Hours Mean Time Between Failures should really be only 1,000,000 seconds, as my WD2000JB-75DUAO froze up after just one year. The WD diagnostic utilities can't even run a test on the drive, as it seems it will not even spin.
Unfortunately, unreliable drives must be the future of PCs as I've also had IBM, Maxtor, and Seagate drives in different PCs that have all also failed...
Lots of space, but not so reliable by desmondsmith ,Feb 08 '07
Pros: Lots of space when it works Cons: Hard Drive FAILURE, it crashed making clicking noises
I purchased this drive over a year ago, the space was a nice rush, the drive worked fine, until it didn't. 200 gigs of FULL space is a lot of data for me to lose.
Installation was easy, if you have an updated BIOS, it's pretty much plug and play.
Just keep in mind if you are one of the unlucky ones, is your data worth the risk?
Pros: Very quiet, fast, and efficient. Cons: Higher levels of heat than smaller capacity drives
I have 5 of these drives at the moment and I am 100% satisfied. Speeds are as advertised if not a bit faster. The only thing I do not like about this drive is the amount of heat it dissipates (seems to be quite a bit more then the WD800JB and WD1200JB).
Dont buy WD : go Seagate !!! by godkev ,Nov 25 '04
Pros: Same price as Maxtor.. not much pros Cons: instable on XP & P4P800 Dx. See problems on forums. No support
So much problems with 200gig on Asus P4P800 Deluxe...
Problems everytime I restore and I almost lost everything lately when I could not read the drive : Western Digital answer ? They told me it's not their problem, it's software oriented... call Microsoft.
My 200gig Seagate is always reconized and working perfectly.. So my opinion? I'll never buy WD again.. Seagate is my first and sure bet !!
Pros: Big, cheap Cons: Unreliable. Go with Seagate or Maxtor.
I bought this drive in 2003 year, and it failed after 2 years. I sent it in and got a new drive, since it was under warranty, and it's giving me trouble after 3 months! If this is like the last time, it will be dead within a month.
This is in contrast to my Maxtor 6Y160P0 which has been running for two years
and my dual Seagate ST3200822A which have been running for a few months with no hiccups.
Linux reports the full drive name as WD2000JB-00GVA0, avoid it.
I'm getting a new maxtor diamondmax 10 sata.
