Pros: Storage space for whatever you can think of. Cons: None that I have encountered.
As I was choosing the different parts to my new PC, I read review after review extolling the virtues of the Western Digital 120GB Hard Drive (WD1200JB) but I couldnt justify the $200 price tag. But, as luck would have it, I was scanning the...
Like other reviewers here, I've experienced an unacceptably high failure rate with the WD1200JB drives. I try not to quickly judge a product (and jump on epinions to bash them) based off of a single failure when that failure probably isn't statistically ...
Pros: Cement a dozen of them together and you would have a great boat anchor. Cons: 3 catastrophic failures in under a week make Caviar drives too untrustworthy to consider using.
I bought a Western Digital Caviar, 120 GB, IDE drive for use in a backup Linux workstation. It was installed in a Cooler Master 4002, a top rated, forced air drive cooler with a massive, aluminum head sink. Suddenly, after only a few hours of operation, ...
Pros: Cost, reliable by other reviewers, quiet drive Cons: problems copying previous hardrive at install
I read some reviews. I just purchased the drive at Office max Price was $89 with rebates. I read others had problems with install with Windows XP, and so did I. I would like to give some helpful advise regarding this. I followed the directions very care ...
Pros: Cheap, ample storage for minimal expense, great performance while it lasted Cons: Above-average noise, unreliable, hot-air 3-year warranty
I bought this hard drive because it had a 3-year warranty and I've heard good words about Western Digital drives. It turns out those words totally contradict my experience with one of these I bought in September 2003. The good stuff: This hard drive ...
Pros: Very fast, very silent, good price, 3 year warranty, 8 meg cache Cons: Ran fine then made this *noise*..not much faster than ata/100 2 meg drives I've tried
I DO like this hard drive....BUT, after 4 weeks or more or less normal (meaning on 65-75% of the tim ...
Unreliable... don't waste your time or money by colossus79 ,Feb 26 '04
Pros: Capacity... but that's about it Cons: Totally unreliable, limited warranty, customer support was no help at all
I bought this drive and it failed after only two months; I called customer support and was told to send it in for a replacement, only to be told that my drive was out of warranty... after just two months? I definitely would not recommend buying this drive, and I will not be purchasing any more Western Digital drives.
Don't use in Raid 0 array by mikkel315 ,Jan 17 '04
Pros: Good price Cons: Hard to install in raid. Not reliable
My 2 drives died after 2 weeks because of a known problem with compatibility with raid 0. I dont know how extensive the problem is, but techs at Western Digital told me I should try to sell the replacement drives I am getting as they don't support Raid. Use SATA instead. Western Digital will not help except to replace the drives.
I will never buy a WD disk drive again by josepgaspar ,May 01 '04
Pros: can't think of a pro for a disk that crashes in just 8 month
Cons: Died in just 8 months without a single warning
after working flawlessly for 8 months, the drive just stopped from booting WinXP this morning, after a couple of hours, BIOS stopped from detecting the drive. Lost +100GB of data without a single warning :( Never had such a crash with Seagate. This is the first a last WD disk drive I'll ever buy.
I've had the drive for... by scott_dt3008 ,Dec 28 '02
I've had the drive for 2 days. I'm pleased with the price ($145) after $50 rebate. Going larger than this requires a PCI slot and IDE card.. which I did not want to use. I'll perhaps get a 2nd drive like this one. I know Maxtor has a great return policy, not sure about how WD handles theirs should this drive fail in the future.
