Pros: Low price, DVD player! Cons: Lousy modem, slow processor, tech. support stinks!
Bought the eTower 466id because I had to replace an old hand-me-down 486. Since my needs were simple (i.e. word processing, some spreadsheet work and online surfing), I did not need the fastest computer available, then.
I've read mixed reviews...

I just purchased a etower 466id on December 1,1999. This is when my nightmares began...let me share my horror story! I have thought and thought and thought about purchasing my own PC for months now and finally made up my mind on December 1,1999. I was...

Pros: DVD-ROM, 466MHz Celeron, 64MB RAM Cons: poor tech support
The Emachine 466id is probably one of the best priced entry-level machines. Plenty of power for first-time users. It features a powerful 466MHz Celeron processor, 64MB RAM, 8.4 GB hard drive, 56k modem, and a DVD-ROM. This machine lists for only $675....

Pros: Low price, USB and game ports in front Cons: Cheap CPU fan makes noise.
I bought this machine to replace a 200MHz Pentium system I had built myself a few years ago. I use the system for web programming and light graphics work. My main goal was to get a reasonably fast system dirt cheap. The eMachines definitely fills that...

Pros: mediocre quality for the low price Cons: faulty power unit-cable changing finger space is poor
I bought this computer online for about $631 in February 2000. I upgraded from a Packard Bell that died on me. For a few months I had hardly any real trouble with it other than a noisy fan inside. Then after about 6 months the machine would suddenly...

I decided to buy an emachine after a nightmarish 10 months with a Packard Bell computer. I have had a glorious month with this computer. It was inexpensive. It has a dvd player and a 17 inch monitor came in the package. The software it came with...

Pros: Low Price, Decent Quality, Cons: Not really for a gamer
I had been wanting a new computer for some time but hate the fact that you spend a lot of money and in a few months it is outdated. That is why I love this emachine. It is affordable and yet in another year if I want I can get an updated one. This...

Pros: Inexpensive purchase price Cons: Paying the long distance calls for tech support is very expensive
It's clear by now that Emachines has a quality control problem. Some people have ended up with computers that are lemons; some have had very few problems. I'm somewhere in between.
Setup was no problem, but my first 466id tower had problems...
