Thinkpad 600X Good Buy

by blitman , Nov 20 '02
Pros: Light weight, nice bright display.
Cons: Problems with Windows 2000, didn't like built in mouse, no floppy drive, not enough RAM.
My uncle owns a 600x and I spent alot of time using it. I thought it was a very nice laptop. It had a nice compact design, was very lightweight, and I really liked the display. Even though the display is just 13.3 you really can not tell the difference...

IBM All the Way!!!

by araidasa , Oct 30 '01
Pros: Thin, light, and fast.
Cons: Speakers are less than desirable. No window's button.
I must say, long ago as a wee lad in NJ, I felt burnt by IBM with it's PC Jr. line. Promised the world, I was delivered anything but.

With this machine, I was simply amazed. I too got this machine for business purposes but have since then...

Cons: Premium price, monolithic and expensive technical support.
A trip down memory lane...

I was issued my first IBM Laptop during my first UNIX systems administration job in the early nineties. The unit was big, bulky, very expensive and difficult to support. The older, smaller viewable-screen (I...

by gbodge , Apr 29 '01
Pros: Ease of use, can run with minimal attachments
Cons: Short battery life, all the add ons make a heavy package
I was given a Thinkpad 600X by my company to use for work. It came with a docking station, two batteries, a CD-ROM, a PCMCIA LAN card, and a 3.5" floppy disk drive. Everything except the docking station came in a Targus bag. This was a substantial...

A great Laptop!

by Vinny_C , Feb 22 '01
Pros: very light and good processing speed and very good screen
Cons: Poor sound
I use the IBM Thinkpad 600x for my work and it is a great computer. My last laptop was bulky and very heavy with a very small screen. This IBM 600x is very thin, a wider screen and about half the weight. It is a great computer. It is even faster than...

Watch out for the battery!

by lordpyro , Feb 18 '01
Pros: excellent ibm craftmanship
Cons: horrible battery performance
You can consider this about 10 reviews in one. All the consultants on my group have the 600x and we have all had the same problem, the battery is horrible.

After a couple months, the life goes down to about 20 minutes if you are lucky. And...

by 3rdpower , Dec 27 '00
Pros: Vivid Screen, Nice Keyboard, Good Sound
Cons: little problem with the trackpoint
IBM Thinkpads are NOT inexpensive. As a seller and a user of this particular product line I have a lot of experience with it. My step father purchased the Thinkpad 600X from me as a replacement to his Sony VAIO 505TX a few months back. The price at...

Another solid performer from IBM

by tunga , Oct 22 '00
Pros: reliable, light, great performance, ergonomic
Cons: a little pricey, sound is not perfect
Over the last five years, I've had the opportunity to examine numerous notebooks. Some of them I've used personally, others I have helped people learn or troubleshoot, yet others I have bought and configured for friends. With each new notebook that I've...

Good for Work and Play

by tux , Oct 18 '00
Pros: Practical and efficient
Cons: Not an ultra-sleek style
Since IBM's coming out with the T20, I checked and the 600X is still available. I have been using this machine at work and at home. It can handle all of the larger programs at work (runs on NT 4.0, takes Oracle, Lotus Notes, etc. in stride - I was...

* I've used laptops since the early days with the old Tandy. I've been through the Toshiba line, and now my company has provided me with my second new IBM 600X. As a laptop - good, as a computer - so last year!
