The best thing short of a laptop

by jtown , Feb 03 '01
Pros: Smaller than any laptop, standard expansion ports
Cons: Voice recording sucks, CF slot should be CF-II, not CF-I.
I used to use a Toshiba Libretto but I got tired of lugging around the power supply and constantly hunting for a plug. After analyzing my use of the machine, I realized that I could switch to a handheld unit with a few adjustments.

So...which...

Great Work Tool

by Italy323 , Jul 17 '00
Pros: Great for its size
Cons: For my purposes, none that I'm aware of
I've been using this little machine for the past year for work purposes only. It is extremely dependable and durable. I'm fortunate to have a zipper case to store and carry it around. I have dropped it quite a few times but I think being in its case...

A Tale of Two Designs

by barry11 , Jan 14 '00
Pros: Looks pretty
Cons: cramped keyboard, bogus design
My quest for a portable began with the Jornada 680/690 leading the pack of potential candidates. I like the clamshell form factor because it provides a keyboard (being limited to stylus-only input really hampers your ability to enter text quickly). I...

by neotrinity , May 14 '00
Pros: portable and convieniet
Cons: small
This product is simply one of the best that is offered. It is small portable, and has limitless capabilites. Users not only have the ability to add compact flash, type II cards, surf the net, word process, but they can manage their daily lives on this...

How did I live without one?

by scurvybilgerat , Sep 17 '00
Pros: Great software, rugged
Cons: weak speaker
I use the heck out of this thing. I admit that I may be the biggest computer geek that ever lived, because the 680 goes where ever I go.

The 680 and the 690 are identical except for the fact that the 690 has 32 megs instead of 16 megs. I...

HP 680: a good compromise

by tgjackson , May 09 '00
Pros: Display, keyboard, modem, battery life, size
Cons: Compact flash and PCMCIA slot
I have been using the HP 680 for about 4 months now. I use it along side a larger Windows CE unit (IBM Z-50) and a Windows laptop (Toshiba 3010).

The unit is excellent for taking notes in meetings, or writing e-mail while away from the...

Jornada 680 Wireless Internet

by TechWiz , Sep 23 '99
Pros: Small, great screen, good battery
Cons: Useless voice recorder
I purchased a HP Jornada 680 for use as a wireless internet web browser. I also purchased a Sierra Wireless AirCard 300 from GoAmerica.com as part of a bundle they offer with a year of service. The short review is that it works great and I can now surf...

Great H/PC but has a few really obvious shortcomings

by IronHelix , Jan 06 '00
Pros: Easy to use, very powerful, has some nice details
Cons: thing sticks out of the bottom when a PC card is inserted, no headphone plug, no USB
I got one of these a while ago. But it has so many really pretty obvious problems I decided to return it. But I am pretty picky.

Anyway.

It's a great little machine. The display is crisp and easy to see. There is a useful...

Gotta have it!

by jpiraino , Dec 20 '99
Pros: Small, Lightweight, Windows Interface
Cons: None
I purchased my Jornada because I was tired of my Day Timer. Being the CIO of my firm, a Day Timer was old school. I use my little "companion" as a replacement for the Day Timer, creating fast spreadsheets, and taking notes in meetings. The...

Great tool!

by psiebers , Jan 13 '00
Pros: Laptop power in the palm of your hand
Cons: none, really
I have owned my Hewlett Packard Jornada 680 for close to a year now, and I must say it is one of the greatest out of the box alternatives to lugging around a laptop...

The Jornada 680 is so small but yet stands up to laptops easily. It is...

A great machine for business people

by badhmash , Aug 29 '00
Pros: Vivid color, great programs, great synchronization, built in modem!!, sturdy, has a keyboard too!!
Cons: A little big for your pocket :)
Of all my "gadgets", this machine is my favorite. I am a university student and I type out all of my notes on a desktop computer after I come back from lecture. This way, I re-enforce what I have just learned and come exam time, all I have to...

A Great Little Handheld

by zenataylor , Jun 05 '00
Pros: Small and lightweight
Cons: No cons
This comment is about the jornada 690 as I cant find a category for it.

I recently purchased this product for travelling. Firstly its small enough to sit on a dinner tray when I'm flying so I can work and eat with with room to spare. It's...

The Ultimate PDA

by allanstein2 , Mar 29 '01
Pros: Great keyboard, wide and wonderful color screen
Cons: Oddly configured Compact Flash Card slot
Even though the Hewlett Packard Jornada 680 has been surpassed by later H/PC Professional models - the beefier 690 and the more robust 720 - it's better than most handhelds in the emerging market. With a 75-percent laptop size keyboard and excellent...

HP Jornada v. Psion 5 mx

by gabichou , May 27 '00
Pros: builld-in modem
Cons: Slow, WindowsCE empowered
I made the mistake to fall for the HP Jornada 680 because of its build-in modem and its supposed ease of use with Window environment. Well, that was a mistake. It is a beautifull toy but it does not worth it's price compare to Psion 5MX.

On...
