  • The Handspring TREO 180, The best of a substandard breed.

    Feb 18, 2002 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: An all-in-one device for those who need the convenience of a single unit.
Cons: Poor ergonomics. Uses the substandard Palm OS.

Summary: Before you read this review, please note that the opinions expressed here are based on real-world tests of this device. In many cases, my opinion and test of this product contradict the claims by the manufacturer of this product. The product claims ... read more

  • Very good, except for DSS (Dead Speaker Syndrome)

    Oct 29, 2005 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Good overall design. Good combo PDA and cell phone device.
Cons: B&W screen. Rather out of date now. and worst of all... DSS! (Dead speaker syndrome)

Summary: A great PDA cell phone combo. I liked it enough to later upgrade to the color Treo 270 when the 180 died of DSS (Dead Speaker Syndrome), but the 270 turned out to have the same fatal flaw. I was generally very happy with both the 180 and the 270. ... read more

  • In case anybody still cares...

    Apr 18, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Phone, email, PIM and web all in your palm.
Cons: This can't be your only phone.

Summary: If you're enough of a techno-geek to want a convergence device but way too cheap to spring for a Treo 600, you can probably find a Treo 180 standalone (no contract required) for about $100, today (April 2004) which is about as cheap as PDAs come. (From ... read more

  • My TREO crashes more than Windows 95

    Jul 31, 2003 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Instant syncing with Outlook contacts
Cons: Poor service, poor sound, NO stability

Summary: I was so excited when Handspring announced the Treo. I was trying to buy it before they made it. I mean I called and offered to buy 10 units if they would send me a demo. And finally the Treo arrived. What a sad, sad day. At first I loved ... read more

    May 12, 2003 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: The combo of PDA and phone is convenient. Eliminates duplicate phone lists.
Cons: Unreliable software and hardware. Crashes regularly so must hotsync frequently.

Summary: Regular crashes, poor QA of the product. I bought the Treo exactly one year ago this month and am now on replacement number 4. One good thing about the product is that their support people are excellent - surely they are very busy and feel bad for ... read more

  • Great product

    Feb 9, 2003 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Phone and PDA in one, small size, keyboard, lots of software for Palm
Cons: The version of Palm OS isn't multi-tasking, expensive

Summary: I've always liked the idea of a PDA/phone combo. I use data more than phone but I can't leave home without a phone. Used a Blackberry for a while, liked it but went back to a phone. I've watched the Treo but never made a decision to buy one because o ... read more

Cons: Signal strength, clunky, battery life,

Summary: I'm sad to say this product is NOT worth purchasing. Despite compelling features the Treo is not an all around strong enough phone. The main problems I've had since day one are: -Poor signal strength - MANY of my calls get disconnected. ... read more

  • Good organizer, poor phone with TMobile

    Oct 4, 2002 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
    Pros: Organizer portion is good
Cons: TMobile is an extremely poor service provider

Summary: The Treo with TMobile service is a very, very poor cellular phone. I have had difficulty using or have had no signal at all in cities such as Chicago IL, Indianapolis IN, Dallas/Ft. Worth, St. Louis MO. This “phone” will not work in my home in ... read more

  • Treo...Great option for the right user!

    Sep 29, 2002 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Size, form factor, Size. Only 1 device, instead of PDA & phone.
Cons: Phone echoes on receiving end, phone integration with Palm is very weak.

Summary: Someone else put it best, if you need consolidation, this is the unit to buy TODAY. The Kyocera phone coming out will have graffiti but much better expansion and screen (and numeric keypad) than the Treo. Overall the Treos is a great unit. ... read more

  • Treo 180 G: a well-integrated Palm & cell phone

    Jun 29, 2002 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: 16MB integrated PDA-cell phone, compact, seamless upgrade from Visor, easy SMS messaging, quick battery charge
Cons: Voicestream spotty, battery suboptimal, web browsing and email program useless, Hotsync cradle available separately

Summary: I have been using my Treo 180 G since March 2002 and I love it! I was "tired" of looking up a number in my Visor and then tapping the number into my cell phone. This device solves that "problem" and more! Startup was simple. I inserted the ... read more

  • A great first cut but robustness is an issue

    Jun 19, 2002 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Light weight, functional, all-in-one done almost right, looks great and feels good in the hand.
Cons: Could have a more robust lid, Better integration of all the apps, no expansion slots

Summary: I have been using treo extensively for 2 months now. I have used it in US and India, where I had gone on vacation recently. I have the Treo with the keypad. I love using this product since I do not have to carry around a phone and a palm. This ... read more

  • The Morning After Is Never Pretty

    Jun 2, 2002 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Compact phone, PIM, and email device; high cool factor
Cons: Overpriced; overpromised; kludgy in many areas

Summary: When I first saw the Treo, I knew it was at long last the PDA phone combo for me. I had passed up the nasty Qualcomm PDQ and VisorPhone as too unwieldy and kludgy. I passed on the Kyocera QCP as too bulky. The Samsung SPH, with its color screen, was a ... read more

  • Treo Use

    Apr 9, 2002 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
    Pros: very easy to use.
    Cons: expensive.

Summary: I have found that the Treo is very easy to use and get used too. I previously used a Visor and GSM phone but never as easily as this. With the proper software, you can print to Infrared printers (most lasers nowadays), even fax directly from your hand. ... read more

Summary: The treo is the 3rd all-in-one device that I've owned. The first was a Nokia Communicator in 1997. The second was the original Qualcomm phone/Palm combo in 1999. The Treo finally delivers on the promise of those early devices. The good: ... read more

Cons: short battery life, small screen, bad color saturation, cant upgrade OS

Summary: I got the Treo 180, and am totally happy with it. granted the battery life isnt that long, considering if you are a heavy user, it will only last about 2 hours of talk time. but if you have the charger with you, such as the car adapter and the wall ... read more

  • Killer unit !

    Mar 25, 2002 by

Pros: Engineered very thoughtfully; just small enough to fit discreetly in your pocket
Cons: battery drains quickly, Voicestream service is questionable

Summary: I'd been waiting for a device like this for sooooo long -- I was tired of having to carry the three P's (PDA, Pager, Phone) everywhere I went. I ordered this Treo unit after much deliberation and research comparing the Treo with the Samsung and the ... read more
