Pros: color, some interesting Springboard modules finally available Cons: very pixelated screen, bulky and heavy, limited accessories, memory expansion expensive
I have made no secret of the fact I have yet to find a color Palm I like. Although I have other issues with each of the available color Palms (Palm IIIc, Palm m505, Visor Prism, and Sony CLIE), one problem is constant among all of the color devices:...
Pros: Excellent color screen, Expandable Cons: Still $200 more than monochrome screen
Lately, the store I deal with has been heavily promoting Visors in advance of the release of two new ones, both of which I’ve recently had the chance to spend some time with.
The first is the Visor Prism, the first color PDA by Handspring. It...
The HandSpring Visor Prism is the most feature filled Palm OS device to date. As such you would expect it to gain my highest marks. However, I feel this device falls just short of the finish line and will need to ripen just a bit more before it lives...
Pros: Cheap way to get color, totally compatible with Palm OS Cons: Big and HEAVY
We bought the factory refurbished Handspring Prism as an upgrade to my wife's Palm III (2MB) which she had outgrown. She insisted on color, even though color meant paying 2x the price on a similar powered black and white model. The Prism was a...
Pros: color screen, sensitive graffiti pad easier to write on, rechargeable Cons: near impossible to read in sunlight, intermittent HotSync problems
This is one of the few high-tech gadgets I own that, after originally appealing to me as a fun toy, has proven to be indispensable and gets used every day. I really do not know how I ever got by without it!
Pros: rechargable battery, stylus, USB, color screen? Cons:screen hard on the eyes, COST, SIZE, sunlight incompatible, no flash memory, cheap screen? and more
The Visor Prism is a stunning PDA with unmatched color. That said, it is by no means perfect. As an owner, I can say that the Prism has some great features but is not the dream machine I had hoped for. Initially I gave this PDA 4 stars......
Pros: 16-bit dazzling color, fast processor, springboard expansion module Cons: expensive, boxy look & feel, large size
The very first time I took a peek at the Handspring Visor Prism, I was reminded of the scene from the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy steps out of her twister-tossed house and into the magical, colorized world of Oz. I was similarly awestruck as so many of the...
Pros: Color, runs PalmOS, familiar interface, Handspring's expansion cards Cons: Heavier than other PDAs in its class, can't see screen outdoors, OS upgrades questionable
The Handspring Visor Prism was my second choice. The first choice was a Palm IIIc and, as usual, the local computer/office supply store didn't have any in stock (I'll save that for a rant in another location). Since instant gratification was the theme of...
Pros: Great as a Visor upgrade Cons: Some apps don't work
There are some excellent reviews here. So as not to go over the same ground I will provide some additional points from the perspective of a Visor Deluxe user upgrading to the Prism.
I have a Visor Deluxe with the optional backup module using...
Pros: Great Color, All the Palm Virtues Cons: Cost of the Springboard Modules
After being an advocate of Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) for many years now, it is so gratifying to see them emerge from techno-geek obscurity into the bright spotlight of mainstream popularity. Why? Because the concept of a fully capable computer...
Pros: Expandability, and brilliant color display as well as updated applications Cons: Display not daylight friendly
A gem of an assistant
It took some time for me to jump on the PDA bandwagon. After all, I had a laptop pretty much constantly with me, what would I need a less capable “toy” for? My workplace issued Handspring Deluxe in an attempt to make...
Pros: Color screen, 8MB RAM, USB cradle, Springboard slot Cons: Pricey, more bulky, screen can be hard to read outside
I'll start my review by saying that I received my Prism for free, so I can't really comment much on the $449 list price (although I do think that has to come down at least $50 for it to be truly competitive in the marketplace). Having said that, this is...
Pros: Fast processor, Vibrant colour TFT screen displaying over 65,000 colours Cons: Costly, Paint known to occassionally peel off casing
Do the specs of the Prism justify a near 480 dollar price tag? Equipped with a TFT screen displaying over 65,000 colours and a 33 Mhz Motorola Dragonball VZ processor, the Prism is currently the most powerful Palm OS PDA on the market. Use the following...
Pros: Over 65,000 Colors, Expandability, Speed Cons: Screen in Daylight, Weight
When it came time for me to replace my ever-aging PalmPilot of three years, I was bound and determined to go color. I was also determined to purchase a product, with some research of course, that was not within the Palm family. This was not because I'd...
Pros: Palm OS, bright color, great in all light except direct bright sunlight, expandable. Cons: expensive, bulky compared to other PDA's.
The Visor Prism is my first PDA. I did a lot of research, and figured I would buy a Palm. But when I looked at the Palms, they did not seem anywhere near as good. I looked at the Palm 500 and 505. The 505 screen was hard to read and very poor color,...
Pros: Color screen, Handspring/Palm OS, rechargeable battery Cons: Bulkier than Visor deluxe, rechargeable battery
Two years ago, my dad surprised me at Christmas with a Handspring Visor Deluxe (blue). I didn't really want one, but I soon understood that this was a life changing present. I never had to mess with a paper address book or calendar again, and I could...
Pros: Great color, Springboard slot, easy to sync up, runs readily downloadable software for Palm OS Cons: A wee bit portly, screen nearly impossible to read in direct sunlight
When I got my Visor Prism, I had been using the HandSpring Visor Deluxe for some time, and I loved it. The Palm OS was great on its own, I loved HandSpring's expanded DateBook+, and it came with a USB cradle and software that made it easy as pie to sync...
Pros: Great color. Great battery life. Expandable. New datebook and calculator. Cons: Backlit screen won't show up in sunlight. Like any backlit device, fairly large size.
I used to have a Palm V. It was very small and I grew to love the Palm OS. I decided to go all out and buy the best new Palm OS handheld available and that is the Handspring Prism.
First the cons: large and somewhat heavy. You can't...
Pros: Display and Expandability Cons: Weight and Price
This is now my 8th generation Palm device. I still lvoe the interface as it is the most user friendly of the PDA devices, in my opinion. The Prism is distinct in that it will handle full 16-bit color. The unit comes in a cobalt blue color and comes...
Pros: Expandable using Springboard modules Cons: Color display not as bright or crisp as Pocket PCs
The Handspring Visor Prism is the first expandable full-color handheld computer. The 16-bit active-matrix LCD screen displays over 65,000 colors so everything is crisp, bright, and easy to read. With the Springboard expansion slot, you can snap a digital...
Pros: Color screen, rechargeable battery, speed Cons: Rather thick, the battery life is not that long.
I recently sold my Palm V and Handspring Visor to purchase the Handspring Prism. Upon arrival I quickly unboxed it to see if I was really as good as claimed. It IS very good, with some minor problems.
Pros: Vibrant Color Cons: Annoying Flicker, Low Refresh Rate
While color computers are generally a good thing, color palm computers leave a lot to be desired. I recently purchased a color Handspring Visor Prism, so here is my review.
Pros: Finally rechargeable, fantastically crisp color Cons: A little on the expensive side, should have had a flip cover
Years ago I bought one of the first PalmPilot models and it ended up gathering dust in my closet because the battery life was so poor. I decided that the next PDA I would buy would have a rechargeable battery. Having had a bad experience with Palm and...
Pros: Vibrant Color Screen Cons: Heavy, can't see screen in sunlight, thicker than most palm models
I owned a handspring visor deluxe for a good 5 months. As a personal trainer, my PDA was my best friend. The beauty about PDAs, lies in the fact that everything is electronically arranged neatly. I used to schedule appointments the old fashioned way,...
Pros: Color, easy to use, compact, springboard module slot Cons: A little heavy
I just received the Visor Prism by Handspring and it is great! This is my first color PDA and I was impressed with how easy it is to set up and transfer data to and from my desktop computer with the touch of 1 button. I was amazed at how quick it...
Pros: Color!, USB, Rechargable battery,PhotoAlbum Cons: Will buy every new color app that is released.
Like many, I've wanted a Palm Pilot or Pocket PC device but they just didn't seem to provide the real life functionality that I needed. The other problem was readability. About the time I turned 40, I noticed that I just couldn't read fine text like...
Pros: Great color, rechargeable batteries Cons: Thick, Bulky (Compared to cheaper Palm Vx)
The new Handspring Visor Prism is a cool product for the right user. That user needs to care very little about size, bulkiness and probably should be an avid game player.
As a proud owner of a Visor Deluxe I didn't expect there to be much difference other than color. However, the speed of this unit blew me away. A 50% faster processor and a quicker screen really make a noticable difference when switching between...
Pros: 65k of Color, Lithium Ion Battery, Fast Processor Cons: A little big to fit in Pocket
Lets talk about an amazing product. I have been searching around for an organizer for many months. I have had a Visor deluxe, HP Jornada 545, Compaq Ipaq, and a PalmVx. I was never satisfied by any of those until I got a Handspring Prism. What a piece of...
Cons:
The body is too thick to even fit comfortably in my shirt pocket.
I cannot remove the hard faceplate and snap it on the back with only one hand. You are left having to hold two items to...
Pros: Color Screen, Springboard Slot, USB Hot Sync Cons: Size, Internal Battery, Color Screen in Sunlight
I purchased my Prism from Ebay from $310 which at the time was a really good price. The price has dropped considerably since then and can be found for just over $300.
I am not a real busy guy that needs to keep all my appointments somewhere...
Pros: Great color, easy sync, advanced calculator for converting length, weight or temperatures, plenty of memory Cons: Poor in sunlight, occasional "reset" crashes, no earphone for future use as an mp3
I used to have a Visor Deluxe and I loved that too- until I lost it in an airport! Believe me- people aren't that eager to return such a great tool (toy!). Since I just "had" to replace it, I decided to get a color Prism instead. Since I carry it in my...
Pros: Color, Re-Chargeable, Linux Compatible. Cons: Some USB Support missing from Linux Programs, Screen Outdoors.
It has been a few months now, and I have been using my Handspring Prism for just about everything, from organizing my personal life to playing great freeware games I find at Freeware Palm, but my most mission critical use is at the office, where it...
Pros: Outstanding color, springboard slot, theoretically cannot become obsolete Cons: sometimes hard to see screen outdoors
I own the Handspring visor Prism, and it has changed my life. I am always organized and on time, I can check my schedule by day, week, or month at a glance. I have my address book, schedule, a word-processor and various e-books all in my tiny Prism,...
Pros: Easy to carry, convenient for small amounts of information entry. Cons: Is heavy and a little bulky once you put it in a case
I decided back in March 2004 that I wanted to start using a PDA. Being of the old days of the planner/organizer, I thought this would really help to organize my personal life with doctor appointments etc. and professional life with meetings, projects ...
Pros: Great color, fast, usb- cable Cons: Price is the only thing I can think of.
Finally I own a pda that i love. After being caught with the itch to buy a pda, and not knowing much about who made what, i rushed out to buy a palm vii. Not that I really needed a pda but i wanted one as a toy.
Pros: Good color, spiffy cases Cons: RF emissions interfere with modem, heavy, can flake out when changing springboards
I just returned my springboard modem to the fine folks at OmniSky (who were wonderful about it and whose modem for the Palm V I recommend highly) because the Handspring Prism emits excessive RF and the modem couldn't hold a signal.
Pros: It's in color, infinitely expandable. Cons: Bulkier compared to other PDA's but worth it.
After examining the Handspring Prism at CompUSA, and reading up online about what it has to offer, I feel I have made a pretty good buy with the latest offering from Handspring.
COLOR *****
I finished reading a negative review of...
Pros: bright colors, lots of applications, fast compared to other Palm devices. Cons: bulky, screen is pixellated, springboard modules expensive
I got my Prism at Costco for $199 which is why I'm keeping it. Otherwise I would just save up for a Pocket PC. It seems that Palm devices are quickly becoming obsolete. This Prism however is nice. The colors are wonderful. Handspring should have made the...
If you're looking for a color Palm OS PDA, you don't have much of a selection. Your choices include a Palm IIIc, a Sony Clie, or, in my case, a Handspring Visor Prism.
The Prism's design is slightly bulky, but is overall slim enough to fit in a...
Pros: Colors are vivid. Battery life is great. Cons: A bit bulkier than its B&W siblings.
I purchased my Prism refurbished from E-Bay as I was upgrading from my B&W Visor to the color Prism. I have an 8mb memory card installed on the unit as well. I couldn't live without the Prism. The colors on it are very rich and with the memory modu ...
Pros: Great color, decient battery life, plenty of memory, expansion slot Cons: Price and size
The Handspring Visor Prism is a wonderful PDA. It uses the PalmOS, has color and plenty of standard memory for palm written applications. The expansion slot on the back of the Handspring is what sets the Visor apart from it's cousin the Palm IIIc. The...
Pros: Beautiful, expandable, functional Cons: bulky, 8MB RAM is too little
I just upgraded from a Visor Platinum by getting a refurbished model on eBay. It's just as fast except in drawing color text (hardly noticeable), and even seems to hotsync more reliably that the Platinum. I'v heard some criticism of the screen, such as...
Pros: Love the color and speed and the larger 8mb hard drive Cons: BAD BATTERY LIFE! drains real fast. Thank God it recharges
I had the original visor which can't hold a candle to the prism. Love the Color. Pictures look great. However I think the 8mb should have been 16. I read a review and it said that handspring said the battery life under normal use should be 2 weeks....
The color screen Visor Prism is one of two new models from Handspring for October, 2000. It's 50% faster than the Visor Deluxe thanks to its 33 MHz Motorola Dragonball VZ processor (the Visor and Deluxe have a 16 MHz processor). It has 8 megs of...
Pros: Nice color, fast hot synching (USB), rechargeable batteries, expansion modules Cons: Heavier than monochrome - not "pocket friendly", battery life dependent on screen brightness, hard cover not attached to unit
I have been a palm user for several years. I started with the palm pro model and have upgraded over the years. When Palm lowered the price of the IIIc I gave it serious consideration however, after looking at the screen I felt I would not have been happy...
I have lots of toys, this is just one of them...a toy!
There are programs which will certainly look better on this device, and perhaps run faster (I can't remember the CPU difference). But I had a graphite (see my other reviews) and I'd say...
Pros: Color is a must, good speed Cons: Bright sunlight defeats screen
I started with a Handspring Visor Deluxe when they first came out. Good unit, cheaper than 3com, but screen sucked as it was the same non active matrix B&W number and unit's speed was also a bit lacking. No recharge feature.
Pros: Spectacular color and easy download. Cons: Not as easy to 'configure' as advertised.
I am a somewhat tired amateur techno geek (read: like the 'idea' of new products and am sucked into the 'usability' and 'accessibility,' as advertised). I'm tired because, after years of listening to tech specialists, poring over 'easy-to-understand'...
I have owned 2 Palms and this is my 2nd Visor. I love it. The color is outstanding, its speedy and I think the expandability is what makes it superior to any of the Palms. Every month the are new springboard modules to choose from. The only flaw I can...
Pros: color monitor, clearer graphics, rechargeable battery, 8MB, software choices Cons: rechargeable battery (if you forget to charge), cost
The Handspring Visor prism is a wonderful tool for professionals. It has the capability to store a large amount of information and the size is right. It fits easily into my suit pockets and my purse.
I have been able to keep information from 3...
Pros: Brilliant color display. Cons: Difficult to see out doors and it is a little bit heavier.
The Visor Prism does have a beautiful color display. It does beat out the Palm IIIc and the 500 series. It can do anything the Deluxe or the Platinum can do but in color. The down-side is that it is difficult to see outdoors, however, you need to ask...
Pros: nice screen, rechargeable, expandable Cons: battery dies quick, expensive
Having heavily used a Palm III for a while, the evil urge to own a new toy got the better of me again, So I went and forked for this. I looked heavily at the MS Pocket PC line before going with this. I bought it bundled with an Omnisky modem for wireless...
Pros: Fast, decent memory, good operating system, easy to use, color Cons: A bit pricey, boxy styling
The first color handheld developed by Handspring is, in my opinion, a huge success. The machine is fast and responsive, and the colors are vibrant. It has decent memory (8 megs); I personally have over 50 programs on mine taking up only about half...
Pros: 65,000 color screen, lith-ion rechargeable battery, handspring modules Cons: Bulky, unstable IR port.
I went from a Palm Vx to a Handspring Prism because I wanted a color screen. The Palm IIIc only had the capability of about 4,000 colors and the Handspring Prism has the capability of 65,000. So that alone was the deciding factor for me on which one I'd...
Started off good...ended up bad by unique201 ,Oct 22 '03
Pros: Color....I thought there were more, but I can't think of any Cons: Bulky, not enough storage space, light screen(in sunlight),battery
I bought my Prism when it first came out on the market. I believe around Winter 2001. Although it was bulkier than the rest, I saw past it because of its color. Even before 6 months of use I began to have problems with the battery. According to Handspring, that was normal and I had to do a hard reset every time(For those who don't know, you have to back-up everything...erase everything...and then reload it). That was a great inconvenience. Well, hear I am only 2 years later, looking for another Palm/Pocket PC. My screen decided to get sooooo light that I can hardly read it. The cost to repair it(no longer under warranty), would be just as much as buying a new model.
This PDA is great for the price. I has full 16 bit color (around 65,000 colors). There is 8 mb plenty of space for addresses, calendar, notepad, to do list, and games. I mainly use my palm as a time waster when I'm waiting (at doctor appointments ect...). The only bad part about it are the speakers. There barely there and make a beep every once in a while that isn't very pleasant. You can turn them off in the preferences area.
It really burns me when a company puts out a great product and then abandons it in favor of a newer model. This PDA is everything you could ask for in portable/handheld computing. I have mine loaded with Documents to Go so I can read Word & Excel docs, I have PalmReader loaded so I can read eBooks, I have the Photo Album loaded with dozens & dozens of personal color photos and finally...I have a cable that connects my Prism to my LG TM510 cell phone for wireless web browsing with Blazer 2.0.
My Prism has an additional 16mB module so I have a total memory capacity of 24MB which is more than enough for all these apps plus more.
Also, there's the Innogear Minijam MP3 player with 256MB (4 hours) of music.
This is an excellent PDA for beginners and intermediate users. For an advance or professional (business) user, it should have at least 16MB and for a user who will always be outside his office, there should be a switch to convert the screen to a monochrome for excellent visibility on a bright sunny day. I use my PDA mostly for communications,i.e., with Visor Phone that made my telephone numbers very organized and the history of calls incoming and outgoing are excellent.
If you're looking for a... by jimbo2_dt3000 ,Dec 28 '02
If you're looking for a great PDA, look no further than the Visor Prism. I've searched around and found this one to be a great deal and very user friendly. Very easy to use.I didn't need to read the manual at all. Great colors. Never locks up. Quick! Plenty of downloads. Synch is a snap! Don't get me wrong; there are many other wonderful PDA's out there, but Handspring, with their Springboard attachments, beats them hands down. They have so many to choose from and the software, all which is compatible with Palm, you simply can't go wrong. Other than it being a little big, I think it's one of the best out there.
Have used several PDA's and found this one to be the easiest, lightest, and most organized. It is the only one I've tried that didn't have a lock-up during heavy use. Great set-up for the least amount of aggrevation. The only thing The little docking port is not that sturdy, and I feel a bad design as there is nothing that may prevent such an accident other than the shape of the screen protector. I now mark mine.
Not happy. Graphics are failing... by noway_dt3000 ,Mar 22 '03
Not happy. Graphics are failing and I have to turn it off and reset it in order for it to work. Batteries are not replaceable by user....you have to send it in to the shop...very expensive. Additionally, my touch screen does not respond properly....this is my second unit with this problem. I would not buy another.
