Pros: Price drop to 199.00 and 8 megs of memory Cons: still structural problems that may lead to a break in your display
A few years ago I had owned a Palm III. When I first bought it, I thought it was great. Here I had my Rolodex, and calendar at my fingertips where ever I went. That euphoria lasted all of two months as I smashed the glass display on two consecutive...
Pros: Lots of 3rd party software and accessories available, replaces your day-timer, easy hotsynching Cons: 2-tone screen, limited after-market upgrades available from Palm
Is this thing a bargain, or what?
...well, I guess if you're me, it is. I got it for free. I worked for a tax accountant this spring, and since I won a contest, and the Palm IIIxe was the grand prize, I now have a Palm. You see, my boss...
Pros: small, light, easy to use, tons of memory, lots of available programs Cons: no AC adapter available, email function could use some modifications
Well, my yuppinization has finally become complete, thanks to Aunt Lorna and Grandma. This year, on Cinco De Mayo, I graduated from law school and as a gift I received a Palm IIIxe from the aforementioned. I had never even given a thought to buying one...
Pros: Powerful, easy to use Cons: Interface quirks, LCD is too sensitive
For me, my Palm IIIxe is one of those gadgets that I now wonder how I ever lived without.
With 8mb of memory, this handy, powerful device has more capacity than my first desktop computer! In the past, I’ve used a Dayrunner to jot down important...
Pros: Easy to use, flexible when traveling Cons: No color
After working and training in a large telecommunications business for 4 years I was pretty savvy with my Franklin planner. There wasn't a soul on this Earth that could have gotten my planner out of my hands for anything. I am now a stay at home mom and...
Pros: Flexibility to meet your needs Cons: No color
I tried hard to avoid this purchase but I finally gave in. I initially purchased a Palm IIIe but realized it only synched with the mail feature of Outlook and I needed to synch with the whole MS Outlook package. Rather than upgrade the software I...
Pros: Loads of memory, flash memory for future upgrades, compact size Cons: No in-the-box USB solution, No in-the-box carrying case
After what seems like an eternity of waiting for the Compaq iPaq H3600 to enter into wide spread release, I gave up and used the money to purchase the parts for a new PC and a brand new Palm IIIxe. I have been wanting a new PDA for quite...
Pros: Expandability, tremendous feature set, fast, efficient memory and battery usage, best bang for buck Cons: Display is inferior to that of the Palm V, and other b&w WinCE devices
Introduction
A few months ago, I decided to purchase the Palm IIIxe as an upgrade to my previously owned Palm III. Speaking from the prespective of someone who has owned a Palm III (Palm OS based), and HP Jornada 545 (MS PocketPC OS based), I...
Pros: price, sturdy unit, lash memory, flip cover is great Cons: Visor Deluxe has more features and better programs
Lately it seems a new Palm PDA comes out each month. However despite the flooding of the Palm market, the Palm IIIxe remains as one of the best values for those looking to get a Palm. I will say however, that the Visor Deluxe is slightly superior to...
Pros: reliable, fast, easy for anyone to get the hang of quickly, upgrades easily Cons: eyes may have to adjust to screen
How many times have you and your family been gathered around the television, watching "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" with the Mr. Sleek Neckwear Regis Philbin himself, and a question about the appropriate gift for a three year anniversary pops...
Pros: Relatively inexpensive, 8 megs of memory Cons: no color
After missing appointments, being late for dates, and not knowing when to hand in reports, I decided that it was time for me to get organized. Writing down stuff in a notebook never really worked for me. Also, I love high tech toys. After reading...
Pros: Packed with useful features and applications and long batteries life Cons: No color
This palm exists to help simplify your business life. If you deal with lots of information, you will find out the usefulness of the Palm IIIxe. Most business people use organizers to keep track of their appointments, names of important business...
Pros: Packed with features, and a great value to boot Cons: Not the cheapest or most stylish Palm around
I finally decided to get a Palm, after listening to my significant other rave about hers. (More on that later.) But which? The sleek Vx? The oh-so-wired VIIx? The budget IIIe? The new m100? In the end, I decided on a IIIxe - just like hers. ...
Pros: Lots of RAM, affordable Cons: Not the top of the line
The Palm IIIxe gives you the most bang for your buck if you're looking for a good, no-nonsense device. For the IIIxe, Palm Computing has taken their wildly successful III line to new heights. Sporting 8MB of RAM, a slick black case, and the new OS 3.5,...
Pros: Affordable, Capable, Plenty of Storage Cons: None
I had been looking and researching PDAs for a while. After my search, I settled on the Palm OS platform for reasons that I will describe below. Anyway, my wife surprised me for our anniversary 2 weeks ago and bought me the Palm IIIxe. After using it...
Pros: better screen, excellent price Cons: no color
I'm a long time Palm user - have had a Palm Pro for about 3 years. I finally ran sufficiently out of room to warrant an upgrade. 1 MB of memory was ok, but there was so much more I'd like to do with it (including programming). The Palm IIIxe is THE...
Pros: ease of use, size, memory, hot sync Cons: display, construction
I must agree with most of the other reviews that I have read, that when I first started to think about purchasing a PDA, I thought, "another gadget". I am a gadget freak at heart and I already owned a Sharp electronic organizer with only 25%...
Pros: ease of use, lots of software available Cons: grafitii (especially punctuation)
I finally saved up the money to get myself a palm. First off, why palm you ask? Well, I have owned a Windows CE handheld (Windows CE 1.0) and discovered far more was available for the Palm. Although having Excel CE and Word CE were convienient (point...
Pros: 8MB Ram, Infrared, good value, sleek design Cons: Stylus in rear is awkward, Menu system is not "Launch Pad" and is more cumbersome to navigate if used to the "older" models
I have been using a Pilot since they first came out. I own a Palm 1000, and a 5000. I bought the second after spilling coffee on the first left me without a pilot for the 3 days it took to swap via 3Com's $100 no questions asked swap offer. By far,...
Pros: easy to use, light Cons: easy to leave in your pocket when sitting....
I got this little bundle of joy for Christmas, and it seems like I haven't put it down since. I've played with some of the original PDA's (Newton models and the original Palm Pilots), and they've come a long way. Where do I start....
Pros: Anything that you want to do, you can Cons: Input of information can take time
I started looking at PDA's last March when I was struggling with expanded job responsibilities and an increased commute. The Day-Timer I carried was either too big or too small and it never seemed to have that one piece of paper I needed. I had...
Pros: Easy to use and functional right out of the box. Cons: Display not always readable, some add-on software will be necessary
I was first introduced to Palm type devices from a couple of friends. Both she and her partner owned the Handspring Visor. I thought they were neat little devices, but hardly something that I would use on a regular basis…was I ever wrong. I’ve gone...
It was nine months ago that my Palm III died. I still have it, but ever since its screen mysteriously cracked I've tried to make do without it. I suppose I did an okay job, but I finally broke down and decided to find a replacement for my trusty...
Pros: Features, Price, Ease of Use Cons: Unfashionable
You're in the market for a PDA. All of your friends have one. But, there are so many to choose from. How do you make the right choice. If your primary concern is value, the PalmIIIxe is simply the most bang for the buck you can get in a Palm PDA...
Pros: Cost, functionality Cons: Cost of accessories
I've had the Palm IIIxe for six weeks now and wonder how did I ever get by without it! The IIIxe has really handled the task/contact management for me. I purchased the ThinkDB database ($25) and Datebook 4 ($25) apps and they have been worth the money....
Pros: Best value, sufficient memory, many free applications available, good battery life, ease of use Cons: Screen not as sharp as Palm V's, processor a tad slow
The Palm IIIxe is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I use it daily, answering my own initial doubts of whether this would end up being an expensive paperweight. Yes, you can live without a Palm. You can live without a toothbrush too; life...
Pros: 8 MB of RAM, great resolution and OS. Cons: Check the batteries, Palm!
The Palm IIIxe is the best handheld computer there is. You get the quality of a 3com (or Palm) product, and tons of space. This palm is identical to other Palm IIIs, but this one has 8 MB. This is critical in ensuring you have enough space for all...
Pros: lots of memory (8 MB), not too expensive, easy to write on Cons: cheap plastic stylus
I had been eyeing this Palm for a long time before I actually bought it. I considered the Palm III, but I wanted more than 2 MB of memory. The 8 MB of memory that the Palm IIIxe is more than enough to load programs and data.
Pros: Good price for a hand-held with so much memory. Cons: The navigation takes a little getting used to.
Epinioners,
Who can deny that we live in an increasingly technically adept, mobile world? Everywhere it’s “come here”, “go there”, “remember this”, “don’t forget that”, “shoot me an e-mail”, “and fax me that report”. What gives? While an...
Pros: Very usable and feature packed Cons: A few "warts" and a tad expensive
After much research and price hunting, I finally decided on the IIIxe because of its expandable nature and feature set. I agree with the hundreds of reviews before this one, so I won't bore you with more kudos about the greatness of the PDA.
Pros: Lightweight, compact, necessary functionality is there, easy to learn and use Cons: cheap plastic casing, no wireless access
I received the Palm as a gift from my sister - after never having owned a PDA or a datebook planner for that matter, I was skeptical as to how much use the Palm would actually receive. In less than three weeks, I am beginning to wonder how I lived...
Pros: Does it all for me! Cons: Uses AAA batteries, rather than being rechargeable.
For years I had used a Sharp YO370 Electronic Organizer and was pleased with it. I knew if I were to purchase a PDA that I would definitely use one. But I really balked at the prices. Two things converged to make me change my mind. First, my...
Pros: Great value, lots of memory, can use old II cradles Cons: Backlight poor, screen quality occasionally questionable
My Palm IIIxe was my second Palm device; my first was a PalmPilot II that died about six months ago. I gave myself a few months to decide if I could live without a Palm, and decided I couldn't. After researching all the available devices, I settled on a...
Pros: Easy and fun to program. Cons: Be ready to cough up some extra money if you use a Macintosh.
As a software developer I am constantly searching for new ideas for software. The Palm platform appealed to me because I thought that it was relatively new and therefore there would not be that much software already written for it. This is good for me...
Pros: Lightweight, 8MB of memory, batteries last, easy to sync. Cons: Backlight not that great, only 8MB of memory
I used to be a paper guy...I would write notes on yellow post-its and on scraps of paper all the time. This was bad for two reasons - (1) sometimes I would look at the note and have no idea what I wrote, and (2) I never seemed to have important...
Pros: Cheap and well made. Software is well written Cons: My old one broke - but then again I didn't look after it! :)
I got the Palm IIIxe for $206 (after tax) from Amazon.com (unfortunately the deal ended otherwise I would have let you know the code - check out dealcatcher.com to see if anyone else is giving a sale like this). I have sent off a $50 mail in rebate, to...
Pros: 8mb of Ram, Very Easy to Use, Sturdy Casing, Great Price! Cons: Not USB, No Springboard Type Slot for more expandability options.
Putting it simply, the Palm IIIxe is a five-star device. If you want just the highlights as to why, see my Short Notes below. If you want the full review, go to Detailed Notes further down.
Pros: Great price, extra RAM, same excellent design as its predecessors Cons: None
There's a fine line between being a Palm computer owner and being a Palm computer junkie. If you can't resist buying the next version, you risk becoming an incurable Palm addict.
In 1999, I purchased a Palm III as it was being phased out. A...
Pros: Cool toy, easy to learn, fast access to information Cons: Dim screen, cheap-feeling case
My company gave me the option of obtaining a Palm or refilling my Franklin Planner every year. I had been using the Franklin system for years, but I finally decided to make the leap into the world of Palm. Since they offered to reimburse up to $200...
Pros: Price, Memory, Software Cons: Speed in certain Applications, stylus
When the rebates for the Palm IIIxe were available I ended up getting it for $155 (after rebate). But not you can go to a local store and pick it up for about the same price.
THE GOOD
You get 8megs of memory!! I've got tons of...
Pros: easy to use, small Cons: have to buy modem for $100 to use email
I debated between the 2 new Palms (IIIC & IIIxe) for weeks before opting for the less expensive IIIxe. I am so happy I did. It was about half the price of the color model (I got mine for $250), and consequently half the weight. I don't go anywhere...
Pros: Powerful, small and easy to use Cons: Graffiti hard to input, spotty problems
I have had my Palm IIIxe for over 2 months now am I am very satisfied with it so far. But as I have had good times with it, there have been the bad times.
The Good Times
The Palm IIIxe is a great tool that can be used...
Pros: less that $200, 8mb, will organize your life! Cons: comes w/ cheap stylus, non-rechargeable batteries
why buy a palm pilot?
if you're looking at opinions, i'm sure that you'reo n the brink of buying one. you're probably thinking "i can always use a planner." a palm pilot isn't just a day planner or a rolodex or a to do list. with so many...
Pros: 8mb of Storage, Four Easy ways to enter data, Palm operating system v. 3.5 Cons: None
It's the perfect combination of versatility and power. With 8MB of storage, the Palm IIIxe keeps track of pretty much everything and anything. Thousands of names, addresses, appointments, to-do's and memos with much needed space to spare. Flash ROM means...
Pros: lots of memory, relatively inexpensive Cons: so so mac support, hidden costs
While i would not hesitate to recommend the palm 3xe or palms in general, I would note that like computers (which palm really are-I thought they were just organizers but they are much much more powerful), there are a number of hidden costs. First the bad...
Pros: A single place to put all those scattered bits of information that have been floating around in your mind Cons: still too big to comfortably carry around (but I still do)
I resisted buying a PDA for a long time because I am not the type of person who has long lists of appointments to schedule. For the same reason, I never used pocket calendars or Day-Runners.
I do have lots of random thoughts that come into my...
Pros: Loads of memory, easy handwriting recognition, 3rd party apps., stable OS Cons: Case could use a style upgrade
I have finally found the device for me. I looked at the Cassiopeia Pocket Viewers (not upgradeable or expandable), the Royal DaVinci's (cheap but junk). This is unquestionably the best of the lot.
Pros: Long battery life, good display view at any angle, screen looks better outdoors Cons: 8MB memory limits it to being a simple personal info manager and not more
From the point of view of a regular user, I like Palm devices more than PocketPC's, I own one of each so I am able to compare them side by side. Just about every PocketPC has a color display which is nice, but when outdoors, direct sunlight makes it a...
Pros: Small, light, plenty of storage space Cons: two tone screen can bother eyes after a while
Why would anyone in their right mind carry a paper personal organizer and have an outlook account at home and at the office, then not be in the right place to find the information that you need. The answer to this mahem is the Palm Pilot IIIxe. ...
Pros: It does so much - it's unbelievable! Cons: Battery power really runs down quickly.
I've waited for a couple of years to get a Palm. I've wanted one so badly that I finally gave in and bought the Palm IIIxe. I almost bought the IIIx but accidently came across an article for the upcoming new Palms so I waited an extra month for the...
Pros: Small size, I/R port, 2-AAA batteries, many 3rd party apps Cons: Fragile and uninspiring display
I am a relative newcomer to the Palm. I admit it - it is all my fault. Back when the Palm and the Windows CE devices first appeared, I chose the Windows CE Cassiopeia. I never thought that the Palm devices would last. Boy, was I wrong.
Pros: likely to save universe Cons: requires wearing cargo pants
So I was looking at my checkbook, staring at it blankly as I've become accustomed to doing, and I noticed something -- my balance had, without my knowledge, grown to be unacceptably high above the minimum. Never one to allow such indiscretions and...
Pros: Much cheaper than the Vx with all of the good features; Palm OS 3.5 Cons: No expansion slot; not compatible with all email systems out of the box
Palm had to do something to save themselves from upstarts like Handspring. The Palm IIIxe is a good start. It has the features of the Vx that are really good (lots of memory, good apps) without the one feature that makes the Vx a questionable deal:...
Pros: Great piece of technology that does a lot more than you'd expect, and does it all well Cons: Goes through batteries rather quickly. The screen is somewhat fragile -- you need to be CAREFUL!
I'll admit that I bought my Palm because of a love for new gadgets, with little thought of whether the thing would actually be useful and practical. Let me say that it was $250 of the best dollars I have ever spent. My Palm has found its niche in my...
Pros: Slim, tons of memory, inexpensive Cons: Slow serial HotSync cradle, monochrome display
What were they thinking when they designed the Palm IIIxe? They took the popular Palm III and added improved applications, an operating system upgrade and six more MB of memory. Can you honestly live with a Palm like this? It will be hard, but we...
Pros: sturdy, small, lots of memory Cons: grayscale display
Why did I need a Palm?
I am a college student...which means that I have to juggle an endless schedule of classes, work, sports, and extracurriculars. Unfortunately I am not the world's most organized person, and when my father...
Pros: capacity to load a ton of application Cons: I wish it was in color
I was looking for a PDA that will help me be more productive. I am managing two sites and I needed something to keep track of employee hours, production totals and contacts. With me constantly going from site to site, I needed the versatility to bring...
When I first got my Palm III two years ago I loved it right away - it was so easy to use, and the handwriting recognition took just a day getting used to. Since, it's been a source of much joy and almost as much grief. I'll explain why:
The Palm IIIxe connected organizer builds on earlier Palm III models by offering more memory and more options. Its 8 MB of RAM (four times the memory of the popular Palm IIIe) and 2 MB of flash ROM keep track of all your appointments, memos, to-do items,...
Pros: versatile- it does more than a paper organizer Cons: lid does not adequately protect the screen
Now that Palm is offering a $50 rebate through selected retailers, the Palm IIIxe is even more of a bargain. This offer takes the Palm IIIxe down to the $200 price range. The Palm IIIxe offers almost all the functionality of the Palm Vx for $200 less....
Pros: Best value model, includes sync software Cons: Hard to find, limited wireless connectivity
I won't wade though the merits or pitfalls of the Palm line of PDAs over their competitors. Some people like WinCE, some prefer PalmOS. Buy what you need.
I researched the Palm line quite a bit before buying, and for me, the IIIxe hit the...
For years, I used a DayRunner and Now Up-To-Date for Macintosh. This seemed to work rather well. I'd print out a schedule or address list and throw it into the notebook.
After eyeballing PDA's for months, I finally took the plunge and...
The Palm IIIxe by Palm computers is easily the best model they make. Despite the fact that there are newer models, this remains the best model. The reason is the price. It's only $250.
It has one advantage over the normal Palm III. It has 4...
Pros: You can store almost anything and everything on it. Cons: The touch screen is very delicate (I mean it) and needs great amount of care.
I bought my Palm while I was on an assignment to the US. Before I went about buying it, I had not seen a palm for myself (though I had seen people show off their little BRAINS held in their palms), and so went about learning about one on Epinions. From...
Pros: Plenty of Memory, Can be upgraded, Lots of free software, ease of use Cons: Wish it was color and battery life could be longer
I purchased the Palm IIIxe because I finally got tired of my Day-Minder, The Day-Minder is way to Big and Bulky. When I first got the Palm I opened it up and installed the software onto my laptop without any problem. After the installation I was up and...
Pros: User friendly, 8 MB, best value (when bought in early 2000) Cons: Pretty expensive, looks cheap
Great little organizer and toy! When you are busy, it can help you out in sorting and organizing dates, appointments, reminders, etc. When you are bored, download games onto it, or even hack it!
Pros: small, easy to use, convenient Cons: none I can think of
I had heard so many good things about Palm Pilots and from all that I had heard, they were "the thing" to have. I knew that they had e-mail capabilities and also acted as an organizer but what I didn't know is that you can actually download...
Pros: Everything except for one or two or Three. Cons: No internal SD SLOT and No backup battery, and no AC adapter.
From review comment on DRAM problem: (copied from self)...I didn't want to re-type anything...as it will fit in my review of the IIIxe.. after the zire 31 quit on me.. :( way after warranty, I got a IIIx from my father, now just a few days before this ...
Pros: easy to use, convenient, light weight Cons: Despite my prejudices - none
First, let me say that I can be something of a Luddite. I like technology just fine, but I really prefer a pen and paper – and if you must know I would like that pen to be a fountain pen. Having said that, I finally broke down and bought myself a Palm...
Pros: Cheap; Entertaining Cons: Big; Difficult to read; Difficult to write
I was previously an avid Franklin Planner user, so I thought the Palm IIIxe would be an ideal upgrade. However, you to seriously reconsider if you are planning to upgrade as well. The bottom line is that the Palm is still difficult to use and difficult...
Pros: Convenient, Simple, User friendly, Plenty of space for your daily activities, Lots of fun. Cons: Price:$199, No color, LCD really sensitive.
Memory
8MB is more than enough for an everyday use, I only use 4 megs. It has my daily needs on there, I put in when I need to go and walk the dog, meet people, and do some important things also it has games and numbers of my friends. Palms...
Pros: Easily portable; the only organizer you'll ever need! Cons: I've been advised that when the batteries die, all stored information is lost.
Does this sound familiar: millions of tiny paper scraps covered with telephone numbers, addresses, and appointment dates and times? These were the items with which my purse, desktop, and dresser drawers used to overflow. I would write notes to myself...
Pros: great backlight, clear screen, supports almost all programs Cons: none really for the price of $200
Last Updated: January 7, 2001
IMPORTANT: Amazon.com has opened an outlet section with great prices on many items. If you purchase something, please go through my amazon.com banner and purchase through there. It will help support me and...

When I was researching for a pda, I wanted a machine to keep me organized and entertained at the same time. That's why I purchased the Palm IIIxe, the little machine that could.
Pros: It is what it is- very helpful. Very capable little PDA considering the age. Cons: Old-ness, AAA batteries, b/w screen
I bought this little bugger for 4 dollars at a school junk sale. I must say, it is what it is- there's very little difference between this and even today's top model, save for more space for your programs, a rechargeable battery, more space, and internet ...
Pros: a Palm , 8 Meg memory , solid build ,dependable, great s/h buy Cons: no USB, eats batteries , no internal rechargeable battery, unexiting design, oldish now
[will write fuller review later] Great dependable organiser with ample 8Mb of memory and Speedball 16 Mhz processor. Good clear sharp screen. Solid build Bit long in the tooth now, but a good s/h buy on eBay etc Eats batteries, so worth getting ...
Pros: 8Meg Memory Allows For All the 3rd Party Software I Could Possibly Want Cons: Stylus is the same lump of plastic that came with the original Palm Pilots.
I have owned and used (every day) a Palm III for about two years and the 2 Megs of memory just wasn't hacking it anymore. Palm was offering a $50 rebate on the Palm IIIxe during the holidays, so I took advantage of the lower price.
Pros: Sync's well with Outlook2000 Cons: No replacement media available; gouges for post-warranty repair
I have owned the Palm III, and most recently a Palm IIIxe. The reason I chose the product is that with the addition of Chapura Pocketmirror (included with both models) I could basically take my Microsoft Outlook data on the road with me keep email,...
I've had my Palm IIIxe for about four months, and I must whole-heartedly say this is one of best PDAs on the market, dollar for dollar. Is it color? Well, no. Is it thin and lightweight like the Palm V series? No, not that either. But what it the Palm...
Pros: 8MB Memory, Standard Palm Features, New Stylish Black Color, The Most Sold Palm! The Best Rated Palm Cons: no cons

Pros: Everything Cons: 265 price tag can be an expensive new toy
When the palm pilot first came out I saw it as another toy for the very rich or the very busy. Boy, was I wrong. Purchasing the Palm IIIxe was perhaps one of the best buys that I have ever made.
I first purchased the new M100 but had to return it after a week because of a sticking button. Fortunately they did not have another in stock. So I opted for the Palm IIIxe and I'm glad I did.
I love my Palm Pilot IIIxe!! I bought mine about 3 weeks ago and it is so cool, I can't even begin to tell you. I have access to write my e-mail at ANYtime, even while I'm waiting at the Dr.'s office and then can do a hot sync as soon as I get home and...
Pros: Small, compact, has many features. Cons: Black and white screen, not enough memory...just obsolete!
The Palm IIIxe isn't a bad handheld, and must have been a good option as a handheld organizer when it came out, but today it's just obsolete. The specs on the product do not even come close to the ones available on the most advanced palm machines today....
Pros: Excellent OS, Superb Product, Lots of OS Support, Great Customer Service Cons: Haven't thought of any yet.
----------------------------
Update: August 2000
I have had my Palm IIIxe for several months now, and I can't be any happier. I have become attached to may Palm IIIxe! I feel lost without it! :-) But seriously, the Palm IIIxe has...
Pros: -8MB storage space -IR connectivity -Low price -Works like a charm -Graphiti (handwriting) has good recognition Cons: -Poor sound quality (no MP3s for you) -Graphiti (handwriting) takes an hour or two to learn

This is the upgraded version of the palm IIIe and IIIx.
The...
Pros: Great gadget. Excellent OS Cons: Monochrome screen, hard to see.

Many things that were not apparent at the time of purchase will surface when you...
Pros: You just don't get 8MB that cheap Cons: A bit bulky
I was sooo excited to get my IIIxe last Xmas, and would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of getting their first handheld. I find it to be indispensable, and you will too. Makes a great gift for [grad] students, young professionals, and anyone who...
I had long wanted to buy a Palm product of my own, and for this purchase, I was deciding between the Palm IIIxe and the Palm Vx. Both essentially have the same specs, but the Vx has the obvious "cool" factor. I decided on the IIIxe for a number...
Pros: Small and very portable Cons: battery life could be longer
I bought my Palm IIIxe last summer and because I am a Palm developer I got a discounted price. I got this little gadget so I could get my email and keep track of my daily schedule. But when I got is out of the box and started playing with it I found out...
Pros: Reasonable price / performance. Cons: Major reliability issues.
This is my third or fourth Palm device (I'm losing count) and likely to be my last. For the second time in less than a year, it's unable to sync using the com port connection. I can get around this at work using I/R on my laptop, but it's slow and my...
Pros: Incredible power for price. Plenty of room for software, calendar, address book. Cons: Comes with a plastic stylus....I like a metal one.
Two years ago, I purchased this little marvel and have used and abused it. Not once has my IIIex let me down. The alkaline batteries I use last well over a month and with so much software out there, you will be able to find the programs that suit your...
Pros: Versatile, inexpensive, fun, size, compatibility Cons: no color
Two weeks ago, after endlessly going through user reviews, company websites, and annoying my friends by asking to look at their PDAs, I decided to purchase Palm's IIIxe. Quite simply, it has changed my life. I'll never need to look up another business...
Pros: Reasonable price, super convienent Cons: Easily misplaced, entering info time consuming
Being a college student I find this gizmo to be extremely useful and necessary. I can enter in the dates and times of all of my exams and can store in important numbers. The palm goes wherever I do. It is more useful than carrying a separate...
Pros: easy, fun, sturdy, well designed Cons: screen scratches, no color, hard to see outdoors
I have had my Palm Pilot for over a year. It is the only organization tool, and day planner, that makes me want to use it. It provides places to hold all the information I need. It reminds me of my appointments with an appropriate variable of minutes,...
Pros: Keep organized easily Cons: No rechargeable battery
I purchased the IIIxe (my first PDA) about three weeks ago. Now that I have it, I can't believe I was able to manage my affairs without it. I considered the IIIc (I like the color but is it worth the extra $150?) and the Vx, but I think dollar for...
Pros: stable, does what it's designed for Cons: slow processor, slow sync, mediocre screen
I got a Palm IIIxe after doing a review of what's on the market. The Compaq iPAQ 3650 was not yet available at the time, and I thought the Palm IIIc cost too much. The only competition -- at the time -- that I was considering was the IBM WorkPad c3. But...
Pros: Intuitive to use, inexpensive, versatile Cons: screen gets easily scratched by stylus
I've owned my Palm IIIxe for several months now, and wonder why I haven't bought one sooner. It flawlessly reads my terrible graffiti writing, is simple and intuitive to use. It interfaces and HotSyncs perfectly with Microsoft Outlook on my desktop. I...
Pros: Small size, lightweight, holds nearly everything Cons: No place for those business cards unless you buy a card scanner
I bought my Palm Pilot IIIxe two days ago and I can't live without it already! As a first time 'palmer' I was a bit apprehensive but forked over the cash for this gadget and hoped for the best. Setup was unbelievably easy. I was tying in text within 30...
Pros: Handy PDA for people on the go, great features, and a reasonable price Cons: Lacks built-in charger for battery, addons are expensive, and IR hard to use.
Before I purchased my Palm 3xe people asked me, "Why would you need a palm pilot? You're not a businessman!" Now that I have one, I realize that everyone needs one. For those of you who've either been born with bad longterm/shortterm memory or simply...
Pros: lots of software out there to download, Hot Sync feature Cons: sometimes hard to see the display in bright light
I recently bought a new Palm IIIxe and it's been great so far. This is my first PDA so I didn't really know what to expect. I bought it on-line from PC Connection (www.pcconnection.com) and it came with 3 software titles from LandWare. The one I find...
Pros: Price, Hard Case, Ease of Use, Memory Cons: Doesn't Synch well with Netscape, Grafitti hard to learn
After spending much time researching PDA's, I chose the Palm IIIXE. I wasn't looking to spend much more than $250 and the Palm IIIXE offers the best bang for the buck under $300. I mainly use it for the calandar, address book, and synching my e-mail....
Pros: easy to use, extremely handy Cons: Software can be confusing
I have never been good at keeping track of dates and phone numbers. I finally decided to get the Palm IIIxe after I got sick of having phone numbers on little slips of paper in my wallet.
The Palm IIIxe is great for helping me to keep track...
Pros: Inexpensive, Feature Packed, Simple to Operate Cons: None
I used to be one of those people you saw carrying around a leather bound planner. I put off buying a PDA since I thought it would be a fad. I now know why they have caught on!
In the past, I had notes, business cards and other chad like...
Pros: flash ROM and CHEAP!!! Cons: Serial connection and no expansion slot
I am sure everyone knows all the pros and cons of this product. I just ordered this item and I want everyone to know about the good deal i got. Right now if you go to www.techbargains.com, you can get the eletronic code for amazon. The codes gives you a...
Pros: easy upgrade, easy to use Cons: no colour, stylus is awkward, standard programs still lacking
I first got into the world of palm computing as a lark, entering an ebay auction for a palm pilot pro in the spring of 2000 just to see what would happen. I had up until that point used a paper organizer, and I found it increasingly annoying to enter my...
Pros: 8MB memory, Stylish Casing, Below $300 Cons: No Lithium Ion Battery
If you are just getting into the PDA market, one of the models that I would highly consider is the Palm IIIxe.
The newest member of the III series organize has 8MB of memory which translates into more storage space you could need on a Palm OS...
Pros: Lightweight & Ideal for On-The-Go Scheduling Cons: None
I knew nothing about Palm Pilots. I saw people using them, but didn't pay attention until someone I knew started using one. It was amazing how scheduling and address were all in the palm of their hands. Well, I had to check this out.
Pros: $149!! 8mb ram!! Apps and games out the wazoo!! Cons: Display needs more contrast.
I suppose the IIIxe is being phased out, hence the price reduction to $149. That said, it's still well worth looking at due to the wealth of applications, the large memory on tap, AND the ability to upgrade the operating system, something the Handspring...
Pros: fast, light, and incredibly versatile Cons: Cant Play Quake on it
The Palm IIIxe, what can I say, no other handheld better represents Buddha's middle path better. Here you'll get the 8MB you so desperately want. Though alot of you won't need it, it'll come in handy for services like Avantgo.com. You especially need...
Pros: All you need in one place. Lots of memory, great find feature Cons: No USB connection, lack of conduit software
I never thought that I would ever get a PDA. I never even used a paper calendar before. But after a disappointment with a scanner pen to take notes I took a look at the PALM IIIxe and I just love it.
This Palm is ready to use right out of the box....
Pros: data is always at your finger tips Cons: NONE
I finally purchased a Palm IIIxe about two months ago. I had given thought to this purchase for two years, since a friend recommended a Palm Pilot. The Palm IIIxe is a "tool." If one is looking to get some order in his/her life, this is the...
When i first went out to buy a Palm pilot I went for the palm 3x. But just when i was about to buy it, i saw the palm 3xe standing next to it. Seeing that the palm uses 8mb of space, i jumped all over it. Further reading about it, i found out it uses...
Pros: Good performance. Easy to use. Good interface with computer. Cons: Eats energy. Keep a set of two extra AAA batteries around.
The Palm IIIxe is a very good business tool. You can keep track of addresses, phones, to do lists, date books. It is very easy to use. Even the graffiti - writing with stencil is very easy to pick up on. It is a very good mobile replacement for the...
Pros: 3rd Party Palm OS software support Cons: Screen scratches way too easily
I bought the Palm IIIxe last month to supplement my ever growing collection of little gadgets. At first the device was flawless, but then then I noticed the first one....
Scratches are a real problem it seems on most PDAs. A friend of mine has...
Pros: Price of $199 includes sync cradle, 8MB RAM, upgradeable Cons: No color
I held off buying one of these trendy gadgets but finally broke down in order to better organize myself. Although I considered the m100, the IIIxe was a better buy. At $199, the IIIxe gets you the device plus the sync cradle, which retails for around...
Pros: 8 mb of memory, flash memory for upgrades Cons: Bland color, no USB cradle
If you need a Palm to help get organized(like I did), this is the one to get. Forget about the M100, it's a good product but for a extra 50 bucks( I got mine from Amazon.com for $199 before the $50 rebate) you can get a IIIxe with 6 mb more memory than...
Pros: Syncs with outlook; download websites; best value Cons: Cheap stylus; less solid than previous models
I started out with Palms with the original Palm Pilot personal. I don't recall the amount of RAM, but it wasn't much. In any case I got hooked, I carried this elegant machine with me everywhere. Finally, I kept track of people's birthdays, trip...
Pros: A great, lightweight, powerful PDA Cons: Must buy batteries - no charger for III
I've been a long time user of Palm products. I started with the Professional in 1997, moved up to the Palm IIIx in late 1999 and recently purchased the IIIxe (my wife got the "old" IIIx).
Pros: Fun, Fast and easy to use
Great quality for the price Cons: The stylus can slip out easily
hard to read in some light conditions
I resisted Palm technology thinking that only computer geeks used that stuff. Then, for Christmas my husband got us matching ones and it has been my constant companion ever since. My Daytimer went by the wayside as this slim little organizer took its...
Pros: 8MB memory, fast Cons: HandSpring Visor cheaper
I finally bought a Palm IIIxe after thinking about it for months. When the IIIc came out, I considered color briefly, and went for the 8MB of the IIIxe. I cann't believe what a difference it has made in keeping track of my complicated life! and the...
Pros: Portable computer. keep all your information at hand. Cons: Not wireless. only get offline internet content.
I have the Palm IIIxe . I wrote this review using it. It is a very useful tool. It is a portable computer that can be connecter to your computer. You can read write email, read the news from the Internet all without a wireless connection.
Pros: CHEAP and CHEERFUL
Heaps of apps available
Robust OS Cons: No expansion
Battery changing can be a pain
Serial hotsync
Basic functions
I got this from Ebay recently for 30 bucks (Australian) with cradle, case and postage. I have owned/used a number of IPAQS (1710, 5500, 2490), a Palm (Treo 600) and Smartphones (Imate SP3/SP5i) and for the money I paid this thing is pretty cool. Heaps ...
Pros: Easy to use, use of disposable batteries a plus Cons: Not durable, lackluster customer support
I bought my Palm IIIxe about 3 years ago. As an organizer, it works quite well. The Palm OS is very good, and their 'graffiti' interface makes data entry very easy. It also has enough memory for most users. I like the use of disposable 'AAA' ...
Pros: Large screen, low price Cons: Screen is hard to read, slow processor
When I first purchased the Palm IIIex (early 2001), I was in love with it. Who would not, 8MB of memory, big screen, back light... But that was then, and today is now. Unfortunately, I dropped this PDA one too many times and the screen cracked (it can...
Pros: small, lightweight, easy to use, pre-installed applications are highly functional Cons: small B&W display
I have had my Palm IIIxe for about 2 years now. It is the first such organizer I have owned, so when I got it, I was unsure as to how much I would really use it and so forth. Not to worry! I use it daily - constantly. The basic pre-installed...
Pros: value for your pda dollar. Cons: It's not the status symbol a newer model is.
I had toyed with the idea of buying a PDA for the past 3 years, but had always delayed the purchase, waiting for prices to come down and the capabilities and features to increase, just as with any other electronic/computer item. In April, a new...
While looking for my first PDA I read reviews of Handspring and Palm products. When I read that the Visor had a fragile display that was not covered under warranty, I went with Palm. Two weeks after getting my IIIxe, the display cracked *while it was...
Pros: Small Cons: Feels cheap, confusing interface, expensive, poor-quality screen
I simply do not understand why so many people like the PalmPilot. I can count so many design flaws: the flip cover breaks readily; the screen is small and looks 'oily' under certain lighting conditions; the screen also fades sometimes for no apparent...
Pros: High spec. low cost - same as Vx but half the price. Cons: Not sure how useful it really is
I thought this would change my life etc 'make me more efficient' it hasn't but I do always have important dates and addresses to had which is very good. The problem is, once you get past the novel value the functionality is not there - you cant do very...
Pros: Easy to use, stylish. Cons: Hard to turn the annoying noises off
I recently was given the Palm IIIxe for the holidays. Without even thinking that I needed one, I am now extremely glad that I have this nifty contraption, and would recommend it to anyone. It was $250, but came with a $50 rebate so it wasn't terribly...
Pros: Uses Palm III accessories. Cons: Unreliable -- recurrent data loss.
A disaster. The first one we bought had flashing logo crashes with total data loss. It was sent for repair, the problem recurred. We exchanged the repaired one for a reconditioned IIIxe, that one had total data loss with no evident crash.
Pros: Slim fits in pocket, and fairly cheap Cons: none great buy
I am a student so i needed an item to remember my homework, phone numbers, class times, etc, etc. So I asked my friend what to get he said a Palm V and i said how much??? Well that doesnt matter it was too expensive so instead I bought the Palm IIIxe...
Pros: 8 MB of RAM, easy install Cons: cover gets in the way
I bought this as an upgrade to an old Palm Professional. I had looked at the M100, which seemed fine, .but I liked that I got the 8 MB of RAM for only about $100 more. I also found that the IIIxe has a slight larger screen than the M100. I find this a...
Pros: Price, Ease of Use, Stability, Stylus, Cons: Backlight
I was looking for a solution to take notes in law school and organize my life and the IIIxe and Portable keyboard are perfect. I also looked at the Visor but I felt the Palm had a better screen and the Visor came with a terrible stylus.
I am...
Pros: Interface with Outlook, and have pocket Quicken for Palm OS Cons: Not reliable. have too many GPF (or anything alike for palm)
I bought the Palm IIIxe about one year ago. Since the first week it started showing intermittent problems. The system would fail, and a general error message would display until you reset it. The problem is that it would occur at night sometimes and the...
Pros: Lots of RAM, convenient Cons: No color - already out of date
Well this Palm ( III xe ) has got all the basics - lots of ram , and the normal functions every pda should have. But you see, it's out of date now - so you would be better off buying a m105.
If you're getting a secondhand palm - then It's not...
Pros: Palm OS; lots of available Apps; lots of memory Cons: Wish it were thinner like the Palm V
I had an ORIGINAL Palm Pilot. When it died, I knew I wanted another Palm because it was exactly what I needed -- a replacement for my DayTimer with email capability and lots of optional applications for add-on.
I walked into the store thinking that a palm was mostly a toy that I would probly use sometimes. Let me tell you what I would be lost without this thing. I take it everywhere. Actually I fell naked with out it. The IIIxe has 8 meg of memory. which is...
Pros: Attractive icons, lots of reliable memory. Good overall potential Cons: The potential is limited by the lack of installed programs.
This version of the Palm is a good, functional PDA. However, for the money, it seems like more of a shell of what it could be. In order to better fill out this PDA, and make the PalmIIIxe a better value, the programs that come pre-installed need to be...
Pros: A powerhouse machine; a must-have for any serious medical professional Cons: No complaints from me!
There was a recent New York Times Health section article on the medical professionals, especially physicians, using Palm and related software to aid their practice. Most importantly, the article pointed out the Palm being used mostly for drug...
Pros: Light, easy to use Cons: Not enough e-books in Palm format, hard to enter text
Believe it or not, I bought a Palm because I wanted a device for reading e-books, but I didn't feel like getting a dedicated e-book reader. I bought a Palm instead because it's more popular and thus more likely to last in the marketplace; it has more...
Pros: Better than paper when working. Cons: Paper would have been better since it didn't.
I got mine as a birthday gift. My wife went all over to find it. It was so simple to use that I was depending on it within one day. The one glitch was that I could not get the hot sync software to install and operate correctly. It would keep asking...
Pros: Tons of Memory, extensible Cons: Screen scratches easily,
I love this product. I use it to maintain contact/calendar/task lists with my Outlook at home as well as work (bought an extra cradle). There is tons of software for it, but I mainly use it for contacts and calendar. I also use AvantGo with it for...
Pros: Great price,8megs of RAM,Option of buying a keyboard and a modem for it Cons: Software bugs,Design problems,Glass display
I bought a Palm IIIXE from my local CompUSA store for $250.00. There was a $50.00 rebate form, so it came out to be $200.00 I also bought the portable keyboard for it. And the Palm Modem Connectivity kit also. This kit include a small 33.6kbps modem for...
Pros: A great device to get organized, and have fun. Cons: Hey, where did all my friends go?
So I decided to purchase a Palm due to the utter state of disorganization in my life. I picked a Palm since many of my friends swear by them. Looking over the different choices, it didn't take long for me to get the IIIxe. I really didn't need the...
Pros: 8 megs, Palm OS upgradeable, has flash rom unlike Visor Cons: Screen seems dark/hard to read, no USB (unless you pay more for an adapter)
I don't know why this unit has as many good reviews as it does. The screen is dark and the text is not as black as a Handspring Visor or even the Palm V.
I have done comparisons, and the Palm IIIXE text looks brownish and the screen not as...
I went through tons of information on PDA's and narrowed down the choice to the Palm III xe. I liked the 8 Megs of memory and the very inexpensive price tag. After it arrived I spent a couple of hours adding all of my addresses, phone numbers and the...
Pros: Outstanding memory (8mb), affordable to the average consumer ($249), overall excellence Cons: Black & white screen lacking the industry's move to color
Putting it simply, the Palm IIIxe is a five-star device. If you want just the highlights as to why, see my Short Notes below. If you want the full review, go to Detailed Notes further down.
Pros: Small, lightweight, backlight for viewing in complete darkness, inexpensive ($199) Cons: Fragile, poor sound quality, expensive USB connection ($40)
Now I never forget anything! This is the perfect tool for anyone who has a busy schedule and tends to forget anything they don't write down. My only reason for purchasing this device was to replace my bulky paper organizer. What I have found is...
Pros: Easy to use, lots of memory Cons: Not upgradeable, fewer options than Handspring Visor
As a college student, I got the Palm to help organize my life. The unit is very easy to learn and navigate through. The calendars are very useful - they can be seen in a month, week, or day to day format and let you see in seconds what your schedule...
Pros: solid product overall Cons: screen sometimes hard to see
i use my palm almost every day, mostly for scheduling what i have to do. i also keep all my passwords in here, all my contact info, including aol instant messenger screen names of my friends. and beaming numbers and programs back in forth is great....
Pros: Does what I need it to do. Good tech support. Cons: Batteries need replacing more often than the Professional
I purchased a Palm IIIxe as a replacement for my old Palm Professional, whose digitizer went south on me after 5 years. I didn't need a lot of features, so I went for the basic Palm model. There's not a lot to say about it, other than it's reliable,...
Pros: Memory, upgradable OS, lots o' software available Cons: higher cost
When I was shopping for a PDA, my main concern was cost. However I then decided to go all the way and get the Palm with the most memory (8megs) and I am not sorry one bit. If you are the kind of person that is fascinated by being able to...
Pros: Simple, stable, light-weight, long battery life, universal Cons: Questionable quality, slow, no color, forces you to learn special shorthand, expensive as a PIM
The Palm is a pleasure to use, at least most of the time. The Palm IIIxe comes with 8MB of RAM, which is most suitable for people (like me) who download large reference tools. If you don't need to download such big files, a basic Palm III or the more...
Pros: Lightweight, easy to use, a snap to install Cons: stylus which comes with it too flimsy, not enough memory
Well, after years and years of lugging around a bursting to the seams filofax, I finally broke down and got a Palm IIIxe and life has been sweet ever since. I have seen other people using them before so I had the general idea of how to use one. The...
Pros: Extremely versatile, Large Screen and Cost-effective. Cons: Mid-Sized PDA, Monochrome, Flimsy cover and weak buttons.
I have had my Palm IIIxe for about 3 months now and I can honsestly say that it is one of the best investments I have made. Not only has it conformed to my needs but also fulfiled my wants. The Palm IIIxe is an organizer like no other in its class....
It's 2006, but it still works for me! by kurtz43 ,Jan 10 '06
Pros: Simple to use, easy to find batteries, lots of apps - relatively durable. Cons: Monochrome screen, eats batteries, no memory expansion.
I was given the Palm IIIxe recently. I was reluctant to use this, as it's pretty old tech, but decided to give it a shot since my cell phone's "organizer" wasn't all that good. I find, for what I use it for (calender "to-do", b-days, phone number back-up, upcoming school assignments) that it is easy to work with and straight forward. I sync with my Lotus Notes at work, get updated news and weather, and some simple maps for town, to boot. Monochrome (b&w) screen doesn't bother me, but may be a turn off for others. Backlit feature resembles Indiglo on watches. CHEAP price, tons of apps, and it appears to be pretty durable. I will upgrade soon, but for now this is good. It does eat the AAAs if used a lot, though. If you're new to the whole PDA thing and are on a budget - this may be the way to go - otherwise check Palm Zire series.
what a great little PDA by doug19762002 ,Mar 21 '07
Pros: Set's you free from a desk Cons: slippery. Could be a little more durable.
I found my first palm 3 in a recycle bin. It was love at first sight. With a synchronization program, I downloaded my contacts and calendar. I pulled down some great games on it and enjoyed the freedom it gave me. While showing it to a friend, it dropped on a carpeted floor. It broke. Luckily, another friend had one she wasn't using. I got a new Palm III for $20! Synched it up and Ive been running with it for almost 3 months. I love the ease of use. It was very easy to update with the hot sync cradle and puts my entire calendar and contacts at my fingertips. Its small writing pad makes it easy to pull up contacts. I wish the new ones had that feature still. The battery life is good.
Pros: Durability, simplicity, has all the essientials you need Cons: Still uses AAA batteries
I've had my Palm IIIxe for over 5 years now and it's going strong. For an early generation PDA this thing is great. It has all the essentials you need - calendar, contacts, etc and you can still find some free software for the IIIxe to use. These things are cheap nowadays and a perfect alternative if you need one and don't mind all the current bells and whistles missing (Color screen, wi-fi, mp3 player, etc)
Got mine a year ago, it goes everywhere with me. I've got all sorts of info in it and I don't think I've used 1 Meg RAM yet. You must only burn RAM if you add programs, but using it for games burns your battery quickly. If you just use it for an organizer the batteries last better than a month.
This model has a cover, which some new models don't. You will drop it at some point and if you crack the glass its history.
If you know anyone else with a Palm, the IR is handy. You can beam files to each other.
Synchs easily enough and after the initial time, it takes about 30 seconds.
Extremely pleased with this product.... by cheri_dt3000 ,Apr 16 '02
Extremely pleased with this product. It holds many names, addresses, to-dos, etc.
Works well with SmartPad by Seiko - just write in normal handwriting and it
'dumps' it into your Palm!
Pros: Very Reliable. Cons: Battery Life could be longer.
About 3 years ago I bought a Palm IIIxe at a yard sale for $15.00. I later bought a Palm Z22. My Palm Z22 has broken down twice, but my Palm IIIxe refuses to quit. I recommend the Palm IIIxe but warn you to stay clear of the Palm Z22.
I've had my Palm for... by angel_dt3000 ,Dec 11 '02
I've had my Palm for two years and I love it. I've convinced my family and friends to get one because it's reliable and you can download lots of free software. I really love the fact that it's one tool with many uses.
I loved the Palm IIIxe... by kraut_dt3000 ,Oct 14 '02
I loved the Palm IIIxe but due to the cost factor to replace, I was forced to return to using my 10/11 year old casio B.O.S.S. (cost $39.00) that still works. I miss my Palm but I can't justify spending that much money to replace the Palm every 18 months, not counting the time it would take to input all that was lost.
Unit quit after 6 mos. Supposedly repaired under warranty, but didn't solve the problem. Tech support has been poor, calls haven't solved problem. Palm doesn't seem to care about their customers, just want to sell units for high prices.
Same size and weight as earlier Palm III models 8 MB RAM (4 times that of the popular Palm IIIe connected organizer) Upgradable features and operating...More at Amazon Marketplace
