It's 2006, but it still works for me!
by kurtz43 ,Jan 10 '06
Pros: Simple to use, easy to find batteries, lots of apps - relatively durable. Cons: Monochrome screen, eats batteries, no memory expansion.
I was given the Palm IIIxe recently. I was reluctant to use this, as it's pretty old tech, but decided to give it a shot since my cell phone's "organizer" wasn't all that good. I find, for what I use it for (calender "to-do", b-days, phone number back-up, upcoming school assignments) that it is easy to work with and straight forward. I sync with my Lotus Notes at work, get updated news and weather, and some simple maps for town, to boot. Monochrome (b&w) screen doesn't bother me, but may be a turn off for others. Backlit feature resembles Indiglo on watches. CHEAP price, tons of apps, and it appears to be pretty durable. I will upgrade soon, but for now this is good. It does eat the AAAs if used a lot, though. If you're new to the whole PDA thing and are on a budget - this may be the way to go - otherwise check Palm Zire series.

what a great little PDA
by doug19762002 ,Mar 21 '07
Pros: Set's you free from a desk Cons: slippery. Could be a little more durable.
I found my first palm 3 in a recycle bin. It was love at first sight. With a synchronization program, I downloaded my contacts and calendar. I pulled down some great games on it and enjoyed the freedom it gave me. While showing it to a friend, it dropped on a carpeted floor. It broke. Luckily, another friend had one she wasn't using. I got a new Palm III for $20! Synched it up and Ive been running with it for almost 3 months. I love the ease of use. It was very easy to update with the hot sync cradle and puts my entire calendar and contacts at my fingertips. Its small writing pad makes it easy to pull up contacts. I wish the new ones had that feature still. The battery life is good.

5+ years and going strong
by chart001 ,Feb 28 '06
Pros: Durability, simplicity, has all the essientials you need Cons: Still uses AAA batteries
I've had my Palm IIIxe for over 5 years now and it's going strong. For an early generation PDA this thing is great. It has all the essentials you need - calendar, contacts, etc and you can still find some free software for the IIIxe to use. These things are cheap nowadays and a perfect alternative if you need one and don't mind all the current bells and whistles missing (Color screen, wi-fi, mp3 player, etc)

Got mine a year ago,...
by geirkehre_dt3000 ,Dec 11 '02
Got mine a year ago, it goes everywhere with me. I've got all sorts of info in it and I don't think I've used 1 Meg RAM yet. You must only burn RAM if you add programs, but using it for games burns your battery quickly. If you just use it for an organizer the batteries last better than a month.
This model has a cover, which some new models don't. You will drop it at some point and if you crack the glass its history.
If you know anyone else with a Palm, the IR is handy. You can beam files to each other.
Synchs easily enough and after the initial time, it takes about 30 seconds.

Extremely pleased with this product....
by cheri_dt3000 ,Apr 16 '02
Extremely pleased with this product. It holds many names, addresses, to-dos, etc.
Works well with SmartPad by Seiko - just write in normal handwriting and it
'dumps' it into your Palm!

Palm IIIxe Handheld.
by dartbear ,Sep 22 '09
Pros: Very Reliable. Cons: Battery Life could be longer.
About 3 years ago I bought a Palm IIIxe at a yard sale for $15.00. I later bought a Palm Z22. My Palm Z22 has broken down twice, but my Palm IIIxe refuses to quit. I recommend the Palm IIIxe but warn you to stay clear of the Palm Z22.

by angel_dt3000 ,Dec 11 '02
I've had my Palm for two years and I love it. I've convinced my family and friends to get one because it's reliable and you can download lots of free software. I really love the fact that it's one tool with many uses.

I loved the Palm IIIxe...
by kraut_dt3000 ,Oct 14 '02
I loved the Palm IIIxe but due to the cost factor to replace, I was forced to return to using my 10/11 year old casio B.O.S.S. (cost $39.00) that still works. I miss my Palm but I can't justify spending that much money to replace the Palm every 18 months, not counting the time it would take to input all that was lost.

Unit quit after 6 mos....
by sounder_dt3000 ,Feb 03 '03
Unit quit after 6 mos. Supposedly repaired under warranty, but didn't solve the problem. Tech support has been poor, calls haven't solved problem. Palm doesn't seem to care about their customers, just want to sell units for high prices.
