Pros: small, USB power supply, high resolution, vivid colour, excellent scanning software Cons: USB power supply, average contrast, somewhat blurry scans, slow
Summary: The CanoScan N656U is a very interesting scanner. It's tiny, uses a unique indirect LED scanning mechanism, and has some of the best scanning software available in consumer products. However, its simple on-cable interface can cause problems, it scans ... read more

Pros: Small size is unique among competitors, unit is very durable, quiet, has nice software interface. Cons: Slow scanning speed at higher resolutions.
Summary: I purchased by N656U about 2 years ago now. I really liked its small footprint and integrated USB power. I use it with a laptop and I take it with me in my laptop bag because it is so small, light and portable. It is ideal for users who need a scanner ... read more

Pros: Thin and lightweight, slick design, easy too use, no need to plug in for power Cons: only 45 bits of color while others have 48 bits.(for varied colors and hues)

Pros: Very compact, fast scanning. Cons: Can't see it when looked at sideways.
Summary: I've been using this scanner for about 6 months, and I love it. It's so thin and lightweight that I don't even keep it on my desk all the time, I just stand it up and put it on the bookshelf. Yes, it's that small! The performance is great in my opinion. ... read more

Pros: Size, Quality, Ease of Use, Price Cons: Mild Incompatibility, USB Power
Summary: My previous scanner was a dinosaur. Really. It was at least 2 and a half feet long, 2 feet wide, 7 or 8 inches tall and weighed around 60 or 70 pounds. It had to be at least 10 or 15 years old.
I may be exaggerating, but needless to say the ... read more

Pros: USB Power Supply. Good Pricing. Beautiful Eye-Catching Design. Cons: Weak Software.
Summary: This must be one of the best looking scanners out there. The n656u looks almost identical with its big brother, n1212u, except this comes with a silver matte finish instead of gold. The maximum resolution of the n656u is 600dpi while the n1212u is ... read more

Pros: Easy to set up! Works like a charm the first time! Cons: None so far.
Summary: This is my 3rd scanner and the easiest to use so far.
I have had an HP and Epson. The HP was OK, the one I had was 4 years old and needed to be upgraded. The Epson worked at first then hung up my computer every time I tried to use it!

Pros: Runs under WIN2000. Installation a breeze. Simple, one button operation. Great image resolution for a great price. One of the slimmest scanners I've seen. Only 1 1/2 inches thick! Cons: None that I've found yet.
Summary: I recently upgraded to Windows 2000 and there was no driver available for my existing UMAX Astra600S scanner. The Canon N656U claimed to be WIN2000 compatible and it was. Installation was a breeze. It took me about 15 minutes from the time I got home ... read more

Pros: Size, Cost, Quality, No power supply needed Cons: Nothing of note
Summary: I've used scanners at work for some time (Epson and Umax), but this is the first scanner I've purchased for home. My major barriers had always been lack of space and lack of available power outlets (I have two very full surge strips already.)

Pros: Single USB cable, Z-expansion lid, size, quality of photo reprints. Cons: the "software" manual. It is too large to want to print, but would be nice to refer to as a paper manual
Summary: This scanner is not only attractive but it actually works, and well.
This is my first scanner, but I have high expectations in anything I purchase.
I loved the things this particular scanner offered.
The single cable for USB ... read more

Pros: small, sleek, excellent result Cons: a little slow
Summary: I had this scanner for a little longer than 4 years and its is still working flawlessly. Although the scan is quite slow, the result from the scan is excellent. Please Note: Never scan matte photos, the result won't be as good as scanning glossy

Pros: Sleek, thin - that's about the only good thing about it. Cons: Breaks down after warranty. Costs $25/call for Tech Help. Scanner is SLOW.
Summary: I wanted to buy a good intro scanner under $120. Boy, was this one a mistake. It did look good - thin, sleek, and looked easy to operate. All of this was a deception. The scanner wasn't easy to set up or operate, and it always had some glitch to work
