Pros: Lots of free web space--up to 140MB, great rebate
Cons: Without the rebate, the service is pricey

Summary: I have used Compuserve for just over a year and have been pleased with their service. Before Compuserve I used AOL with mixed results (mostly good), but just couldn’t resist the $400 rebate they offered with the purchase of new computer. Money talks, ... read more

  • Compuserve 7.0 minimalist internet service

Rated a Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Feb 6, 2007
    Pros: cheap connection
Cons: default CS web browser is unreliable

Summary: I use the internet for basic services, so "bells and whistles" are not a big deal to me. However, you would think that Compuserve would at least maintain their own system at core level. They do not. Compuserve 7.0 operates off a web browser called ... read more

  • From Best to Worst -- How Sad

Pros: Used to be the best online service provider around, not so today.
Cons: Rampant incompetence, avoid if you want to keep your sanity.

Summary: I was a Compuserve subscriber for over 20 years (since the mid-80s, way before the Internet went "mainstream"). For most of those years the service was really great, and even after AOL bought the company they took pains to keep us loyal Compuserve ... read more

    Pros: None
Cons: Unreliable service, lousy customer service, you can't get rid of them.

Summary: If you are thinking of trying this service or its parent company AOL, take my advice – DON'T! If you are already a member get out NOW! (if they let you) Here's my experience with CompuServe: we had this service for almost five years. It was ... read more

  • Compuserve does NOT suck

    Sep 3, 2004
Pros: good connection speed, allows you to stay on w/o getting constantly kicked off
Cons: you must use the cs browser to connect, currently no high speed service

Summary: Let me start by explaining why I joined cs in the first place. My first ISP was Aol, which was horrendous back in its earlier days(although I don't know if it is still that bad; in any case, I don't care). And my family and I were shopping for a ... read more

  • CompuServe = CompuCrap (true equation)

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Jul 6, 2004
Pros: Easier to use than Standard Dial up.
Cons: Disconnects, Limits some computer functions, Practically have to fight a war to disconnect.

Summary: I got stuck with CompuServe through the familiar $300 rebate. I imagine this is the only way a company like CompuServe can actually get customers. Why do I talk so bad about CompuServe? For anyone who's been stuck with AOL, CompuServe is basically the ... read more

    Mar 17, 2004
Pros: price (only 14.99 now for unlimited access), email and navigation are idiot proof
Cons: compuserve's browser is slow, use your own separate IE or netscape.

Summary: I have to admit I signed up to compuserve only for the $400 rebate, it was christmas time and I needed the money. So I figured, I already pay 20 bucks a month already, I might as well get 400 dollars for paying the same amount. I had aol prior to this ... read more

Rated a Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Apr 30, 2003
Pros: Surfing the net is a breeze, nice browser, and easy email.
Cons: Billing that is not trustworthy. You are being monitored when you visit forums, and chatrooms.

Summary: CompuServe is basically AOL with a few important differences. First of all, the browser is slightly different, but actually more attractive than AOL's. Everything is right where you need it, and is very handy for surfing the net. I wish ... read more
